Modern World Warlock-Chapter 239: Bone Golems
As the bone golems began to climb out of the underground room, the male android commenced his pursuit of the group.
"Balthazar, we are taking the golems," Dante said, prompting the vampire to extend his hand and make his walking cane fly toward him.
"Why is Zac on the roof?" The warlock asked, sensing his friend's umbra at the top.
'Well, whatever… He will come down at some point,' Dante thought.
When the male android accelerated himself to appear beside Megan, the brunette quickly avoided his boosted kick and used her dagger to stab him in his knee joint, knowing that her knife skills weren't clean enough to slice through metal.
The android waved his hand and slapped Megan away, and even though she covered herself with her forearm, his strike still flung her against the wall.
Nevertheless, Alice arrived and shot the android in the back of the head, catching his attention as the bullet bounced off.
While the two women battled the male android, the golems' hands made it to the surface.
Despite being made of bones, the golems' hands gripping the floor looked thick and burly, as they were made of several thousand bones weaved together, producing an unsettling aura.
Three golems managed to reach the surface, allowing the group to scan them in detail.
Their bodies looked slightly round and white, with an eerie necrotic energy flowing from within each of them. They were almost three meters tall, and their wide frame made them look even more prominent.
'Destro won't work on these things…' Dante pondered, seeing the thick layer of necrotic magic surrounding the golems, which acted as protection from spells.
While 'Destro' was a powerful spell that could turn almost anything into dust, it was extremely easy to defend against it with a pinch of magic, so Dante knew that it wouldn't be useful against the golems.
"Heh…" Dante smiled evilly.
"Dante… Any weaknesses on those things?" Balthazar asked.
"Look for the magic core…" Dante replied.
The warlock considered the golems to be similar to the androids, with the most significant difference being the magic core that gave life to the golems.
"It's usually hidden inside their chest since it's their toughest part," Dante continued.
When one of the golems extended its arm, the monster waved it down and released a shockwave that destroyed most of the art pieces around it, making Dante and Balthazar take a step back to evade it.
'So much for not making a mess…' Dante thought.
Taking one quick step forward, the warlock rushed straight at the first golem, which tried to wave its arm to slap him to the side. Nonetheless, Dante skillfully skidded under the golem's arm and reached its chest.
"Destro," he muttered, placing his hand on the golem's chest.
Still, his spell didn't break enough of the magical barrier around it, chipping away at the bone on the sides of the monster.
The golem released a shockwave of energy from its body to push the warlock back. However, Dante kept his firm stance on the ground, unmoving from his position after receiving the blast.
Grinning, Dante cast the spell "shadow whip" with his palm touching the golem.
Generally, the warlock had to clasp his hands together to generate the whips that lashed at his opponents. However, that was simply the best method to cast it when he was slightly distant from his opponent.
When he used it with his opened palm on the golem, the shadowy strands infiltrated the monster's body through its crevices before lashing it from the inside in a crazed manner.
After putting even more power into his whips, Dante took a step back and watched how the golem was destroyed from the inside as the shadows slowly destroyed its core.
*Prang!* The sound of glass shattering could be heard loudly inside the museum as the golem's core was destroyed, leaving the bony structure on the floor.
Seeing how Dante dealt with the golem himself, Balthazar decided to copy his moves and added his own spin to it, as he wasn't capable of casting "shadow whip."
As the elder vampire approached a second golem that was targeting him, he used his walking cane to vault forward and avoid its attack, landing behind the golem.
When the monster turned around, Balthazar had already placed both of his hands against its chest.
"Blood Threads," Balthazar muttered.
The vampire and the golem stood still for a brief moment, and when the golem tried to move an arm, it received a shock from inside of its body.
The golem's entire ribcage had been filled with thin threads made of blood, and each time it made a move, one of the threads snapped and damaged it.
Nevertheless, while golems could be given orders to follow, they weren't exactly intelligent, so the monster tried to attack Balthazar again, only to get instant retribution from the blood threads.
After the golem tried to make a couple more moves, the sound of its core shattering could be heard, signaling Balthazar's victory. novelbuddy.cσ๓
On the other side of the main hall, Irina faced the third golem, pondering if she could defeat such a monster as her spells were barely chipping its body.
At one moment, the vampire sentinel lost her focus and was about to get slammed by the golem. However, Zac dropped down from the rooftop and smashed his baseball bat against the golem's head with all of his strength.
The strike wasn't strong enough to break the golem's defense, but its attack on Irina was halted.
"About time!" Irina exclaimed.
"I'll take that as a 'thanks,'" Zac replied.
"Keep it occupied for a minute," Irina said, prompting the redhead to comply and rush at the golem.
While Zac was able to avoid the slow attacks of the monster, his own attacks didn't do any significant damage to it. Still, he knew his role was to divert it for a minute.
Suddenly, Irina landed on the golem's shoulders with her legs around its neck.
"Blood spike!" she shouted, generating two long and thick spears made of blood that impaled both of the golem's shoulders.
As the golem restructured its body to remove the blood spears, the core on its chest was revealed for a brief second, allowing Zac to shatter it with one decisive strike encased in pure umbra.
