Chapter 689: Monstrous Formation

After the call ended, Mingyue looked at Alex. "Isn’t that easy? As long as we put Vesa in, she can send them there."

Alex shook his head. He changed the navigation data and pulled up the Empire’s core territory.

Normally, this information would be hidden. Not even S-grade map data would have this. But he got it from General Kael.

"Look," he said. "Mars is located in the same planetary system as their capital. Security there is not a joke."

Mingyue leaned closer.

On the map, the capital star system was layered. Rings inside rings of formations, with warning zones marked in red and gold. Every route was a thin line with checkpoints.

Alex remembered the pressure from a system-wide formation and shook his head. Now he understood why entering many star systems required a specific route.

"The system-wide formation makes sure someone who flies in randomly will never reach the real location," Alex said. "Even if they have the coordinates."

Mingyue’s eyes narrowed. "So it bends space? Or it’s just an illusion? Can’t some strong being like a Primordial or Progenitor force their way?"

"They can," Alex said. "But the moment it happens, the one who owns the star system will be alerted."

This system’s purpose was to make sure that those who weren’t real powerhouses couldn’t force an intervention. The formations alone were more than enough to block their path.

Alex zoomed in on the capital system.

A faint grid showed up, almost invisible at first. When he turned on the formation overlay, the grid became a web of lines crossing the whole star system.

"That’s the Imperial formation," Alex said. "I suspect it was laid by the human Progenitor himself."

Mingyue stared. "Seems we could put more functions inside it, like a real-time map and other things."

"Yes," Alex said. "We really need to make one too."

He tapped a point near the outer ring. The image zoomed out, showing the full structure.

It couldn’t be called a single system formation anymore. It was linked with many other systems.

Alex suspected the Progenitor even moved a few large stars as power sources to fuel it.

"As the entry points are locked to specific spots, they can focus their defense there," Alex said. "This must have taken years of effort and a ton of resources."

Mingyue’s expression turned serious. "Seems the gap between us and them is really large."

If their factions clashed right now, the result was obvious.

The Empire could blitz and destroy Ainode and the surrounding systems, while Alex and Mingyue would barely be able to do anything.

Their main military power right now was still the Sovereigns. The Mecalytes were barely useful as support for war, but against the Empire they were nothing.

With only a few of them protecting all angles of possible attack, it would be a nightmare.

Meanwhile the Empire only needed to defend one entry point.

They might have vast territory, but most of it could be ignored. Their real power was located in these core systems.

"I wonder if we could disrupt this formation without them finding out," Alex said.

He opened another layer.

Large symbols appeared on the map, like anchors. Each one was labeled with a designation, and each one had a chain of routes linked to it.

"These are the hyperlanes," Alex said. "You can think of them as roads in space. But do they really cover everything outside them with a formation?"

Mingyue pointed. "Even if they do, it will probably be on star systems they don’t really mind losing."

"Yeah," Alex said. "It won’t be a crucial system. But what I mean is finding a way to enter this star system without them realizing."

Even if the formation was made by a Progenitor, the area was still vast. Alex still felt there should be some kind of weak point.

He highlighted Mars.

Mars sat inside the same system, but it wasn’t that close to the capital. It was placed on a lane that wrapped around several formation rings.

"They put important worlds near the capital, but Mars is not one of them," Alex said. "Probably because it’s a prison planet, so they put it far away."

If Alex could see the real solar system map from the past, he would realize Mars had been pushed far from its original orbit. It was now farther away than Pluto used to be from Earth.

Mingyue’s voice lowered. "Even if we find a path, we will need to confirm it. Isn’t it too dangerous?"

Alex’s eyes stayed calm, but his mind moved fast.

"You’re right," he said. "But the other method is buying our way in."

Mingyue looked confused.

Alex tapped the map again and pulled up new information.

"See this," he said. "It’s the VIP section on the Empire universe channel. If we can access it, we can see the situation on Mars live, and even bid to buy one of the prisoners."

He tapped the screen where a route was highlighted.

"The Empire also often sends resources there," Alex said. "So we could theoretically disguise ourselves as one of those shipments."

Mingyue frowned. "Isn’t this a problem? What if someone buys Alice?"

"That’s possible," Alex said, "but I think we have enough time."

Mingyue’s eyes narrowed. "The Sovereign."

Alex nodded. "Exactly. He survived so long inside that planet, and now Alice made contact with him. If the royals can, they will take her to gain information on the Sovereign."

"Maybe the royalty hasn’t realized Alice made contact with him," Mingyue said. "The Sovereign surely has his own secret method."

"That’s a possibility," Alex said. "The question is whether he’s allowed to stay there, or he’s hiding there."

"A Sovereign living alone without getting his life force extracted, or at least tortured? I doubt that," Mingyue said.

"That makes sense," Alex said, "but we don’t know if there are special circumstances."

While they planned ahead, four ice statues were watching them blankly. Each of them was still seated on their chair, frozen solid by Mingyue before they could do anything.

They were the original owners of the ship, a mercenary group hoping to gain a foothold on the new planet.

Unfortunately, they met Alex and Mingyue, with their dream planet right in front of their eyes.

"This is Proxima Centauri b Border Control to all incoming vessels. Maintain your assigned approach lane and prepare for inspection. Land one at a time when you are cleared."
