Chapter 688: The Old Sovereign

Mingyue looked up. "For royalty?"

"For the royals and the families with huge contributions," Alex said. "Founding bloodlines. War hero clans. The ones who built the Empire’s backbone."

As their families grew through generations, their numbers became huge. But there were barely any good rumors about them.

Most news said they lived lazily, doing whatever they wanted. True parasites on the Empire’s economy.

Mingyue’s eyes narrowed. "So the Empire rewards them with an entire planet."

"Not just rewards," Alex said. "It also keeps them close. They think it’s protection, but I think it’s also to watch over them."

Alex understood the concept. The Empire was showing them that their family and descendants could live however they wanted, without care. But the moment they went against the Empire, they would be massacred.

Mingyue stared out the window again as more ships joined the stream.

"So Proxima is A," she said. "Which means... even being there is hard."

Alex nodded. "For most people, yes. The only reason this exodus is accepted is because it’s a one-time door upward."

Mingyue turned back to him. "Then what about General Kael? Does he want to be governor of this planet?"

Alex’s eyes stayed calm. "If we’re going to do something, we might as well go as high as possible. Our goal here is to help him win. This wave of immigrants will also help."

Mingyue understood at once.

With the influx of new immigrants, that meant new people who could vote. They would be more likely to choose someone who gave them enough benefits to start over on a new planet.

"Usually, even in cases like this, an A-grade planet won’t take this many immigrants," Alex said. "But after a huge pandemic that killed a whole city, they need new population."

Mingyue’s eyes narrowed. "That’s too much of a coincidence. Seems political fights are as cruel as cultivators fighting for resources."

Alex chuckled and shook his head. "It’s worse."

At least cultivators fought directly, and rarely involved innocents. Political fights swallowed innocents first.

A whole city dying to a pandemic was already strange on an A-grade planet.

Even though the main reason had been announced, Alex didn’t believe no one else was pulling the strings.

’Probably someone from the royal family. Those people see everyone outside S-grade as cattle.’

Even if they couldn’t act however they wanted on other planets, on their own planets they lived like gods.

That kind of life created twisted personalities. People who saw others as nothing more than numbers.

The type of person Alex hated the most.

He understood a leader sometimes had to make heavy decisions, but they needed to understand the weight of those decisions.

’If the royals are behind this incident, then General Kael has a strong backer. He’s just too afraid to use it.’

Alex could already guess Kael’s thinking.

Kael was afraid that if he relied only on royalty, it would mean he would completely depend on them. Now that he also had support from Saryx, he felt he could use both sides and gain a chance to negotiate with each party.

Outside, the fleet crossed a bright lane of starlight. On the navigation display, the Proxima marker grew closer.

BRRRRTTTT!!!!

At that moment, Alex felt something vibrating on his storage ring.

"Seems Alice finally decided to contact us."

Mingyue didn’t respond. She looked forward, waiting for what Alice would say.

Alex activated the channel. "Hello, Alice. How is it?"

"Alex, I met a Sovereign here."

They couldn’t talk long. Alice quickly passed the call over.

An old voice came through the communication. "So you’re the one my lord has chosen. To think he goes with a human in the end."

"I’m not here to seek your approval," Alex replied coldly. "My lord chose me, and that’s the end of the story. If you want to complain, tell him yourself."

He didn’t wait for the Sovereign to speak again.

"The vampire race has been defeated and scattered across the universe," Alex said. "Since you’re one of the old Sovereigns, do you have a method to contact them?"

Alex himself had multiple Sovereigns under him now.

Through the years, they had grown more loyal, and Alex had found more ways to control them.

Selene was working on Edonia, making sure everything ran properly beside Vesa.

While Dorian led groups outside, gathering intel and knowledge, preparing for their future rise.

A rise of vampires required many things. It wasn’t just a matter of gathering people.

They already secured Ainode as the location, but they still needed resources. Exotic materials, more technology, and ways to fight at the same level.

Lately, Alex had been focused on hunting Progenitor blood and on his and Mingyue’s growth. He didn’t have much time for things outside that.

So Dorian was taking the lead.

From Alex’s experience, the best way was to establish hierarchy and position. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

Sovereigns were prideful, but they respected their lord deeply. If Alex said he was chosen by Alucard, then denying his status meant denying their lord.

"So crude," the old Sovereign replied.

"So do you have any information or not?" Alex said. "And are you alone, or are there other vampires with you?"

So far, the only vampire civilization Alex had met was from the plane where they found Thalia and Alucard’s remnant.

There weren’t many vampires left there to truly rebuild a race.

Even counting those Alex turned into vampires, it was still not much, barely in the thousands.

Of course, that thousand was by no means weak. Most of them were elite.

Alex realized a Sovereign was still a huge power even in the current era.

For example, they could easily operate on B-class planets within the Empire.

For A-class, they would risk their lives. For S-class, that was one they should avoid.

"I’m not alone here," the old Sovereign said. "But even if the Lord chose you, you need to prove your power."

"Bring us from Mars back to Edonia," he continued. "Then we can talk further."
