MMORPG: Birth of the World's Luckiest Player-Chapter 231: The Silent Street
Double length Chapter
—
"Stonehaven, isn’t it beautiful?"
After Marcus finished reviewing the item’s stats, he handed the Fluttering Butterfly mask to Anya. She immediately removed the mask she had been wearing before and replaced it with the new one, then looked up at him with a proud and expectant smile, as if eagerly waiting for his reaction.
Since they were in public and she wanted to avoid drawing unnecessary attention, Anya had decided to address him by his in game name. Only when they were alone would she call him by his real name, Marcus.
"It’s beautiful," he said without hesitation.
With the Fluttering Butterfly resting on her face, the upper half of Anya’s features were gently veiled. Only her soft dark eyes, her delicate nose, and those charming cherry colored lips remained visible. The mask was exquisitely crafted, and the way it framed her mouth made the natural rosy hue of her lips stand out even more. For a brief moment, Marcus felt an almost irresistible urge to lean forward and claim those lips for himself.
What made the mask truly special, however, was the elegant purple butterfly motif woven into its design. It added a faint air of mystery to Anya’s already ethereal beauty, elevating her appearance even further and making her seem even more enchanting than before.
She looked utterly unique and breathtaking, like a graceful butterfly that had come to life.
At that moment she resembled a purple butterfly about to take flight, or perhaps one resting lightly upon a rare flower. There was a strange harmony between motion and stillness that created a scene so beautiful it almost felt unreal.
"Really?"
When she heard his praise and noticed how his gaze lingered on her, a warm wave of happiness rose in Anya’s chest. Her heart filled with a quiet sweetness. Nothing in the world made her happier than hearing approval from the man she loved.
A woman’s beauty blossoms for the one she cherishes, and when that beauty is truly acknowledged, the feeling becomes even more touching.
"Mhm," Marcus nodded.
It truly was beautiful.
When the woman in front of him was someone as stunning as Anya, every movement she made and every glance she cast seemed capable of captivating his attention.
"This is great!"
Anya suddenly pulled the mask off again and gave him a playful wink. She examined the mask with open delight before placing it back on her face. Then she took it off again. And then put it back on once more.
She repeated the process two or three times, clearly unable to contain her excitement.
Her innocent and slightly childish actions became an unexpected treat for Marcus. Watching her flawless face shift between different expressions with and without the mask was strangely mesmerizing. One moment she looked pure and gentle, the next mysterious and alluring, then playful, then adorable.
Every variation was beautiful in its own way. Each glance felt like looking at a carefully painted scene.
"Am I seeing things?"
Standing beside Marcus, Old Vine had also been observing everything quietly. When he finally saw Anya clearly, he suddenly rubbed his eyes in disbelief.
Although he had already guessed that the two girls accompanying Marcus were probably quite attractive, the level of beauty before him still left him stunned. Their appearance rivaled even that of his two beloved granddaughters.
Old Vine was not someone easily impressed. As the head of a prominent family, he had met countless people throughout his life and had seen many beautiful women. Yet in his heart, he had always believed that very few women in the world could surpass his twin granddaughters in appearance.
Their beauty was flawless and perfectly balanced. They were charming, gentle, and well behaved. In Old Vine’s eyes they were the most outstanding young women alive. The fact that they were identical twins only made them more exceptional.
To him, they had always represented the very peak of beauty.
They were his greatest pride.
But now, standing here and watching Marcus, he felt his confidence wavering.
One stunning woman after another seemed to appear around this young man, each one possessing a level of beauty that could easily rival his granddaughters. Old Vine could hardly believe his eyes.
How could so many breathtaking women exist in the world?
The last time he had met Marcus, there had already been two women by his side. One mature and elegant, the other young and lively. The older one possessed a classical refinement that many men would dream of seeing in a wife, while the younger girl had the lively charm of a mischievous little fairy that naturally made people want to protect her.
Their presence alone had already shocked him and made him marvel at Marcus’s incredible luck.
And now today, another extraordinary beauty had appeared beside him.
This one carried herself with gentle warmth and quiet approachability, yet there was also an unmistakable air of nobility about her. She resembled a celestial maiden who had descended from the heavens into the mortal world. Like a princess born into grace.
Her beauty was so overwhelming that it could topple kingdoms, and the aura surrounding her felt almost otherworldly.
What shocked Old Vine even more was the way she looked at Marcus. The tenderness and affection in her gaze were unmistakable.
Anyone witnessing that look would feel a burning sense of jealousy.
If the game had not recently removed the appearance adjustment system and restored everyone’s real faces, Old Vine might have assumed these girls had simply pushed their beauty settings to the absolute limit.
’Stonehaven... you... who exactly are you?’
Old Vine suddenly felt as if he could not see through Marcus at all.
Everything he had previously assumed about the young man now seemed uncertain. His earlier deductions clashed completely with the scene before him, leaving his thoughts tangled in confusion.
Could Stonehaven actually be the heir of some powerful family? Did he have some extraordinary background?
But that theory did not quite make sense either.
When Marcus had heard that a Guild Creation Token could sell for 150 million gold coins, his reaction had been genuine shock. That sort of surprise was not something a wealthy heir would show.
The more Old Vine thought about it, the more confused he became.
He realized that he had no idea how deep Marcus’s background truly ran.
The sorceress beside him was already so extraordinary. As for the quiet female knight standing nearby with her fiery figure, youthful energy, and heroic aura, she must surely be just as exceptional.
Old Vine felt a headache beginning to form.
The last time they had met, Marcus had introduced the elegant woman as his girl. Yet now he seemed so close to another girl not long after. The whole situation made his head spin.
’He’s quite the playboy, isn’t he?’’
Old Vine could not help feeling a flash of indignation.
It was almost as if this young man had somehow gathered all the beautiful women in the world around himself.
For some strange reason, Old Vine suddenly felt a faint sense of injustice on behalf of his two granddaughters.
As expected, the female knight was just as remarkable as he had imagined.
Her dark hair was tied neatly behind her head, revealing a face that combined heroic sharpness with flawless fairness. Her features were striking and impossible to ignore, yet there was also a bright youthful energy in her expression that made her presence feel refreshing.
Her knightly aura was powerful and distinct.
If Old Vine were still a young man, he suspected he would already be consumed with jealousy. Instead he could only sigh quietly and admire the young man’s strange charm.
To have even one woman of such beauty by your side would already be a blessing granted by heaven.
Yet around Marcus they seemed to appear one after another. How could Old Vine not be impressed?
Still, something about the knight stirred a faint sense of recognition in his mind. Her unique aura felt strangely familiar, as if he had seen her somewhere before.
"Chlo... Wind Witch, you try the mask too. Let me see."
Anya had grown impatient since she could not see her own reflection while wearing the mask. She turned to Chloe with excitement.
She almost called Chloe by her real name, but caught herself when she remembered Old Vine was still nearby, quickly switching to Chloe’s in game name instead.
As Chloe placed the Fluttering Butterfly mask over her face, Old Vine finally had a clear look at her upright posture and beautiful features.
With the mask on, Chloe’s appearance became even more distinctive.
Her naturally heroic features blended with the purple butterfly design in a surprisingly harmonious way. The result was both strong and gentle at the same time, a perfect balance between grace and softness. Her valiant spirit and feminine elegance seemed to merge effortlessly.
Marcus gave an appreciative nod.
"Stonehaven, I love this mask. I want to buy it."
After seeing how incredible the Fluttering Butterfly looked, Anya completely stopped caring about the mask’s useless stats or its outrageous price.
Her decision was already made.
Women, after all, often became passionate and irrational when shopping. If something was beautiful enough, it had almost no chance of escaping their grasp.
And the more beautiful the woman, the more true this rule seemed to become.
Marcus had only just been thinking that anyone willing to buy such a gimmicky item for such an absurd price had to be either a fool with too much money, a rich kid trying to impress a girl, or perhaps some truly wealthy tycoon.
He never expected that only moments later, he himself would become that person.
Although he had earned some money recently, he was far from being called a tycoon.
If anything, he probably fell somewhere between a fool and a spendthrift now.
"Alright."
He agreed without hesitation.
In Marcus’s view, a real man did not refuse something his woman truly wanted, provided it was within his means.
The price was a little painful, but still manageable with the money he currently had.
"Stonehaven, here."
Anya suddenly grabbed his hand, her eyes bright with excitement, and placed something into his palm.
"What’s this?"
Marcus opened his hand and discovered Anya’s gold card. Inside it was more than twenty million gold coins.
"Where did you get so much gold?"
"I exchanged it."
Anya’s voice dropped to a soft whisper, and she avoided meeting his eyes.
"Why would you exchange so much?"
Marcus could understand a rich girl converting some real money into in game currency to enjoy the game. That was perfectly normal.
But twenty million gold coins at once? That was two million dollars. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
Was she planning to compete for the Guild Creation Token tomorrow?
He felt genuinely puzzled.
"I was afraid I wouldn’t have enough to buy things..."
Her voice became even quieter. Her flawless face flushed bright red as embarrassment spread across her cheeks.
’Does this have something to do with me?’
Marcus felt confused.
What he did not know was that the moment he had told Anya he was playing and enjoying Dominion, she had immediately exchanged two million dollars into gold coins just for him. She had done it right before logging into the game.
"You don’t have to do that. I have money."
Marcus tried to hand the gold card back to her, but Anya quickly waved her hand and refused.
"Stonehaven, from now on you can help me and Wind Witch buy our equipment. We don’t understand stats or prices."
As she finished speaking, she looked at him with soft pleading eyes.
Her expression made it painfully clear that she would feel deeply hurt if he rejected her request.
"This... well..."
Marcus found himself completely at a loss.
"Stonehaven, please? You can help us whenever you have time."
Anya grabbed his arm and shook it gently, acting cute in a way that was impossible to ignore.
Marcus fell silent. He was trapped.
With a helpless smile, he finally gave in. Since he had already decided that Anya would be his woman, there seemed little point in drawing rigid boundaries between them.
---
They soon began putting the gold to good use.
The group started a small shopping spree inside the Old Vine Auction House, searching for complete sets of level twenty equipment for both Anya and Chloe.
Unfortunately, the process quickly turned into a frustrating experience.
Although Anya had clearly said that she and Chloe did not understand equipment stats or market prices and wanted Marcus to choose for them, things never went that smoothly.
Every time Marcus found equipment with strong stats that he believed would suit them well, the two girls rejected it almost immediately.
Their reason was always exactly the same.
It was not pretty enough.
They had countless requirements regarding colors, designs, materials, and overall appearance. In the end, they simply chose the equipment themselves and completely ignored both the stats and the price.
Three hundred thousand gold coins disappeared in the blink of an eye for two sets of level twenty gear that perfectly highlighted their beauty and figures.
Watching the two of them standing there in their elegant new equipment, their already graceful forms now enhanced even further, Marcus could not help feeling his heart stir.
If beauty could be turned into a weapon, he suspected these two could probably defeat most monsters with a single glance.
"Stonehaven, we’re logging off to rest. We have classes tomorrow."
After equipping their new gear, Anya and Chloe checked the time and decided it was time to leave.
"Okay, sounds good."
Once they logged off, Marcus prepared to leave the auction house as well. He planned to return to his mansion, organize the equipment currently filling his inventory, and check whether Lily and his sister had finished their quests.
If they had not, he would go search for that wandering Elven emissary and bring them back.
"Old Vine, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be heading out."
"Of course. I still have to prepare for tomorrow’s auction."
After finishing the shopping session, Old Vine had immediately thrown himself back into his work.
"Stone."
Marcus had just stepped outside the Old Vine Auction House and was about to head back to his mansion when something strange caught his attention.
The bustling street outside had fallen completely silent.
He had been about to wonder what had happened when someone suddenly called his name.
Marcus turned around. What greeted him was a dazzling sight.
Three women, each possessing a different yet equally stunning beauty, were walking slowly toward him.
Only then did Marcus understand why the street had gone quiet; every passerby had stopped to stare. Their overwhelming beauty and presence had completely captured everyone’s attention.
When the crowd heard one of the women call out to him, people instinctively moved aside and formed a path.
At the same time, every pair of eyes shifted toward Marcus. In an instant, he became the center of attention.
’So this knight named himself Stone.’
The looks directed at him were filled with envy and jealousy.
As Marcus watched the three women approach, a faint sense of recognition stirred when he looked at the woman in the middle.
However, the two women walking beside her were glaring at him with undisguised anger.
Marcus suddenly felt a headache coming on. For a brief moment, he even had the urge to turn around and run.
Both of the women flanking the center figure were sorceresses. They wore identical white silk robes that draped elegantly over their slender figures, emphasizing their graceful silhouettes while giving off an aura of refined elegance.
Their presence alone was captivating.
When Marcus finally saw their faces clearly, recognition struck him.
One of them wore an icy expression, her beauty sharp and distant like an ancient glacier that no one could approach.
The other had a pure and gentle face, the kind that reminded people of the friendly girl next door and instantly made others feel at ease.
Both were breathtakingly beautiful.
