Miss Truth-Chapter 685: Side Story One: Su Fu - (End)
In the seclusion of the alleyways, a silent figure in black stood atop the wall, shrouded in shadow. Even as occasional passersby walked the road, none felt his presence.
After a while, when no one was left on the road, Su Fu leapt down from the wall and slowly made his way toward the Xiao residence.
This time, he intended to meet her openly, just like visiting an old friend he hadn’t seen for years—even if it meant being turned away at the door.
The gatekeeper spotted a man in a black robe standing outside the gate, not approaching to knock. Despite wearing simple cloth, the man had an extraordinary bearing. The gatekeeper stepped forward, clasped his hands, and asked, "Is the distinguished guest here to see my master or the lady?"
In the past two years, many had specifically come to visit Ran Yan, either to seek medical treatment or for matters related to medical skills conferences.
"I am here to visit Lady Xian Liang," Su Fu said.
The gatekeeper inquired, "May I know the esteemed guest’s name, so that I may inform our lady?"
Su Fu hesitated for a moment, then turned to leave. He suddenly remembered he was still a wanted man; visiting her this way was perhaps inappropriate.
The gatekeeper watched his retreating figure in puzzlement as a small child squeezed through the crack in the door and asked in a baby voice, "Is he also here to seek medical help from my mother?"
Hearing this voice, Su Fu stopped in his tracks and looked back. He saw a tiny child wearing a light yellow robe, her head adorned with twin buns, round, bright eyes, and a little nose that gave her the appearance of a tiny celestial being.
Jinyang Princess was the smallest child Su Fu had ever seen, but he never expected to encounter someone even tinier—a head that barely reached just above his knees!
"Little lady, how did you run out again?" the gatekeeper exclaimed with a start.
Su Fu saw two more porcelain-skinned boys squeeze out of the door, moving sideways toward it, their awkward and endearing actions causing the corners of his mouth to turn upward involuntarily.
Although it was an extremely subtle expression, the softened look on his face made Ruoruo quite fond of him. She stepped towards Su Fu, trying to reach up and pull his hand, but struggled to do so.
Su Fu bent down slightly, lowering his hand.
Ruoruo’s chubby little hand could only grasp one of his fingers, "Don’t be afraid, I’ll take you to see the doctor."
With that, she pulled on Su Fu, leading him toward the house.
The gatekeeper looked on with astonishment. The little lady was usually timid around strangers, hiding behind others, but today she was inexplicably bold. Could it be that at her tender age, she had taken a liking to handsome gentlemen?
Thinking this, the gatekeeper turned to see the two other little figures clinging to the wall, and quickly asked, "How did the two young masters run out too?"
In the past month, the three young masters had grown increasingly clever, making the gatekeeper’s job all the more challenging as they constantly schemed to run outside.
Xiao Lao Er raised his little head, furrowing his brow and pulling at his mouth, "Can’t you see we did?"
"Oh dear, my little ancestors, if I don’t see you today, then tomorrow you won’t see me," the gatekeeper lamented, his head aching. If he were to lose sight of the children, would the Xiao family still tolerate his presence?
"Young masters, little lady," three maids rushed out.
Relieved, the gatekeeper ushered Su Fu into the gatehouse to sit, served him tea, and said, "Please wait a moment, I will have someone inform the lady immediately."
"Little lady, come back with this slave," one maid coaxed Ruoruo.
Ruoruo, however, ignored her and tilting her head, asked Su Fu, "Where do you feel unwell?"
Seeing their sister still in the gatehouse, the other two little fellows immediately demanded to go there too. Xiao Lao Er had already started bawling at the top of his lungs, and Xiao Lao Da’s eyes reddened, a storm seemingly on the brink. Terrified by the threat of the impending tantrum, the maids quickly carried them into the gatehouse.
"Please forgive us, the young masters seem to have taken a liking to you and insist on coming in to play with you," one of the maids apologized, bowing.
"It’s no trouble," Su Fu replied.
The three maids knelt to one side, stealing glances at Su Fu from time to time. Apart from their master, they had never seen such a handsome man.
"Can you catch little green frogs?" Xiao Lao Er, waddling on his little legs, came up to Su Fu, sat down cross-legged beside him, and tilted his head to ask. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Su Fu hesitated before nodding.
"Then are you here to see my mother for treatment?" Xiao Lao Er continued.
Not skilled in social interaction, let alone dealing with several question-filled children, Su Fu could only respond with a simple, "Mhm."
"Where do you feel unwell?" Ruoruo asked again, bringing the conversation back to the beginning.
Xiao Lao Da, who had been silent until now, turned to a maid and asked, "Does he look better, or does my father?"
