Medical and Martial God-Chapter 81 Plan Thwarted
Ye Xiu could clearly see through Ma Tengkong’s intentions and spoke seriously, "Ma Tengkong, people change. I’m not the same Ye Xiu I was ten years ago. You won’t get any advantage from me, so stop wasting your efforts."
His words were direct, exposing Ma Tengkong’s motives and effectively burning their bridges. Anyone else would have left in embarrassment, but Ma Tengkong was a different breed. Showing no sign of disappointment, he maintained his playful grin. "Bro, I don’t like the sound of that. Am I the kind of person who likes to take advantage of others?"
"You are!" Ye Xiu declared.
"That was in the past." Ma Tengkong adopted a solemn tone. "I’ll admit, I used to be a bit greedy for petty gains. But like you said, people change. I’m not like that anymore. I came here today with a sincere desire to help you."
"I don’t need your help," Ye Xiu said, his patience wearing thin.
"Whether you need it is your business. As your brother, I must offer what little help I can," Ma Tengkong proclaimed with an air of noble righteousness.
Defeated by Ma Tengkong’s shamelessness, Ye Xiu took a deep breath. "No matter what I say, you’re not leaving today, are you?"
"I’m just that warm-hearted, and you know it, bro. Go on with your business; don’t mind me. If there’s any dirty or tiring work, I’ll take care of it all," Ma Tengkong said with a chuckle.
Ye Xiu was at a loss for words. What could he possibly say to someone so utterly shameless? He casually knocked Ma Tengkong unconscious and called for Chloe.
"Throw this guy out."
"Might as well just kill him," Chloe suggested.
"Ma Tengkong isn’t some great villain," Ye Xiu explained. "He’s just morally bankrupt, has twisted values, and is shameless, selfish, greedy, and a coward who avoids trouble. It’s not a capital offense. Just keep people like him at a distance."
"Oh!" Chloe nodded. Pinching one of Ma Tengkong’s fingers with a look of disgust, she dragged him away.
After Ye Xiu had washed up and was having breakfast with Qin Qing, she brought up a concern. "Now that you’ve cleared your name, you’ve become the Ye Xiu who was beloved by the whole nation ten years ago. Your every word and action will be under intense scrutiny. That’s not good for your plan for revenge."
Previously, Ye Xiu was the most reviled man in Xuanse, free to do as he pleased without caring about public opinion. Things were different now. He was once again the perfect Medicine King in the public’s eye. Even passing gas in public would probably make headlines.
"You don’t need to worry about that," Ye Xiu reassured her. "Everyone in Jin Ye City recognizes me now, but people outside the city still don’t know what I look like. The masterminds here in Jin Ye City are only a small fraction; most of them are in other City Mansions across the country. The impact on my plan won’t be significant."
"What if someone in Jin Ye City posts a photo of a flyer online? What if they take a flyer to another City Mansion? What if someone from another City Mansion comes here, sees a flyer, and takes it with them?" Qin Qing fired off a series of questions.
"Watch the news," Ye Xiu said, casually turning on the TV.
The Jin Ye City morning news was on. Suddenly, the picture changed to a beautiful woman. It was Qing Luan, one of Xuanse’s Eight Great National Protector War Gods. She was appealing to the citizens of Jin Ye City to destroy all flyers to prevent Divine Doctor Ye Xiu’s home address from being leaked, which would cause unnecessary disruptions to his life.
"You actually managed to get a Xuanse War God to help you?" Qin Qing was no stranger to the Eight Great National Protector War Gods, who often appeared on television. What shocked her was that Qing Luan was helping Ye Xiu.
"Qing Luan and I are friends," Ye Xiu said nonchalantly. "All last night, every member of the Official Family in Jin Ye City, along with my own subordinates, was out searching for and destroying the flyers. With Qing Luan’s public appeal, they’ll almost all be gone soon. Even if some are left, members of the Official Family will go door to door to collect them."
"But what if someone has already uploaded a picture to the internet?" Qin Qing pressed.
"Try searching for it," Ye Xiu said with a smile.
Qin Qing quickly grabbed her phone and searched for the name "Ye Xiu." Aside from articles about the Ming Family’s plot to frame him, she couldn’t find any content or photos related to the flyers.
She was astonished. "How did you do that?"
Ye Xiu took a sip of millet porridge. "When a person possesses limitless power, influence, wealth, and martial strength, things that seem impossible to others become easy."
Qin Qing mulled over his words for a moment. "Look at you, getting so full of yourself."
Ye Xiu was speechless.
After breakfast, Qin Qing left for work. Ye Xiu had Chloe give him a new haircut. His previous artistic style was too flamboyant and eye-catching. He switched to a short hairstyle and put on a mask, which would make it harder for him to be recognized outside.
"Is Divine Doctor Ye here?" As Chloe was cutting his hair, a deep voice suddenly came from outside.
"Who are you?" Ye Xiu and Chloe went to the door and saw a brawny man standing there.
"I am Guo Xiang, the head disciple of the Vajra Sect," the man announced. "By order of my master, I am here to instruct Divine Doctor Ye to arrive at the stadium before nine o’clock this morning. Do not be late."
Guo Xiang’s tone and attitude were entirely commanding. After delivering his message, he turned and left, giving Ye Xiu no opportunity to refuse.
"How rude," Chloe said angrily.
"I may have restored my reputation, but in the eyes of the nation, I’m still just a doctor. It’s perfectly normal for someone like Guo Xiang to look down on me," Ye Xiu said, unbothered by the man’s attitude.
"Why does the Vajra Sect Leader want you at the stadium?" Chloe asked.
"Mo Qingxuan was the leader of the Ancient Martial Circle in Jin Ye City," Ye Xiu explained. "Now that the Mo Family has been wiped out, the circle is leaderless. I suspect the experts of Jin Ye City’s Ancient Martial Circle are gathering at the stadium today to compete for the top position. Fists and feet have no eyes; injuries are inevitable during spars. The Vajra Sect probably wants me there to treat the wounded."
"I see," Chloe said, understanding. "So, are you going?"
"Of course I’m going," Ye Xiu said casually. "But there’s no rush."
Guo Xiang had ordered him to be at the stadium before nine, but Ye Xiu paid the command no mind. Except for when it’s time for a kill, when has Huang Quan ever been punctual?
Chloe finished his haircut, after which Ye Xiu took a shower, got dressed, and then went to sunbathe by the pool.
Meanwhile, the stadium’s football field had gathered nearly all the martial artists in Jin Ye City, with the exception of those under Ye Xiu’s command. Jin Ye City originally had thirteen Ancient Martial Families and sects. With the Mo Family annihilated and the Tiger Roar Hall sent to mine in the City of Asura, only eleven remained.
These eleven groups were now seated in the spectator stands, divided into eleven distinct factions. The lines between them were starkly drawn. The leaders of the eleven families and sects sat together in the judges’ seats.
"Sect Leader Song, didn’t you send someone to invite Ye Xiu? Why isn’t he here yet?" a gray-haired old man asked. "Don’t tell me he’s disrespecting you and refusing to come?"
