"Your X-Guardian Card, please?"

The words echoed out from an X-staff as Everlearn brought out his X-Guardian Card.

Passing it to the man, he slid it over the scan reader, typing on the keyboard for about ten seconds before a satisfying beep sounded.

"Your mission success has been recorded. You can head to the X Reward Hall to retrieve your main rewards…"

He said to him, and Everlearn nodded before turning back and resuming his walk.

Looking at his X-device, the rewards for the mission were listed as:

[Mission: Stop the violence ongoing in Lorianor Street.]

[Rewards:

+100 XPoints

+5,000 Nvdollars]

[Total Points to Next Level: 100/1000 XPoints]

"So a D-grade mission gives 100 points. That means I'll have to do at least ten of these before reaching the next requirement…"

He mused quietly to himself.

"5,000 Nvdollars is quite insane, but considering I almost died for it, I think it's just good enough."

The money wasn't directly sent to one's account.

He would need to go and get it himself in the Reward Hall, but Everlearn still had around 3,000 Nvdollars from turning all of his academy points into Nvdollars, so he wasn't too worried.

"I'll just keep saving it there until I need it."

With the mission resolved, he didn't waste any more time, moving back to the Mission Hall and browsing once more.

His first mission had been chosen because he wanted out of the X-Guardian Academy to search for Mecha Eva, and he had already resolved that.

But there was a new place he needed to be.

A place in a Grade C city.

His hands moved out, typing into the search bar.

"Niron City."

He was slightly surprised to find about 1,450 missions available, but scrolling through, he quickly faced a problem.

Niron City was a high-grade city, meaning most of the missions there were equally high-grade.

He tried to pick a C-grade mission, but he was told he was unqualified.

He would need to reach the next level, which required 900 more points, before he could take on C-grade missions.

In the end, Everlearn found just two D-grade missions, and they were beyond annoying.

The first was to work as event security personnel for seven days.

Essentially, being a guard, but if he had to be at the event for seven days and the mission itself lasted seven days, then there was no time at all.

He couldn't sneak away either; the judge AI in the watch would pick that up and instantly tag his mission as a failure.

So that was thrown out.

The second mission was to help find an earring.

Yes, an earring!

[Mission: Princess Ellianor of the Elloron Family has reported the loss of her left earring. Help find the earring!]

"Tsk. Just get a new earring, dummy."

He spat in annoyance, but his hands still grabbed the mission interface, dragging it toward the staff.

Quickly, they helped him sign up for it, and Everlearn continued out toward the exit of the tower.

He had chosen that mission firstly because he had no choice; it was the only remaining D-grade mission.

And secondly, because it had a longer time frame. He was literally given nine days to find it.

If he could find it in the first two or three days, then he'd have a lot of time on his hands to spend the rest of the week.

He stepped through the glass door, but as he did, his legs slowed for an instant as he paused, turning back.

There was a man in a crimson X-suit, his face half-hidden by the coat's high collar, but his eyes were on Everlearn, with his arms crossed.

Everlearn's eyes narrowed.

It was the same man who had asked him about Cornando City the first time.

Somehow, he was here again just as Everlearn was heading out on his second mission.

Weird…

He shrugged it off and continued outside.

"Heading back to your base?"

The voice echoed beside him, coming from Boss Ash, who stood there exhaling quietly.

"Uh… no?"

He replied as she raised an eyebrow, feeling the mild reverberation of his X-Guardian Card.

"You chose a new mission?"

She asked, and he nodded.

"But why? In need of some money?"

She asked with creased eyebrows, but Everlearn shrugged it off.

"No. I just think it'll be a good challenge to fill up the bar to the next level."

He said, resuming his walk toward the jet.

"You shouldn't head straight into another mission after completing one. At least a day of rest to get your head together…"

Boss Ash said.

"Especially when your last one almost sent you lost at sea."

She added, and Everlearn's brow twitched.

"Well, good thing I have someone who can always pick me up, right?"

"Don't get too cocky."

She said, and he cackled evilly.

"What's your new mission anyway?"

She asked.

"Finding something?"

He replied, before quickly asking,

"What level are you?"

"Huh?"

"It says I need 1,000 points amassed to reach the next level. What level are you?"

He asked, and Boss Ash turned to her X-device.

"Level A?"

She read out.

"And how many points to reach the next level?"

"3,400,000 / 100,000,000."

"100 million points!?"

Everlearn almost screamed.

"Does sound like a lot."

Boss Ash mused.

"Tsk, you don't even check your level."

He clicked his tongue in frustration at her attitude.

It was obvious she had never considered this before and was only checking now.

"Never once considered it."

She said with a helpless shrug, lighting up a new cigarette.

"You sure you're really doing this just to fill up that bar?"

She asked once more as they arrived before the jet.

"Why else would you think I took it?"

Everlearn replied, and she shrugged.

"You need cash. You just came out of X-Guard Academy, after all. You should be flat broke."

She said matter-of-factly.

The same had been true for Ash when she graduated.

X-Guard Academy never used Nvdollars.

She had always spent all her points on biogenic fluids and battle tech arts, so when she came out, she was flat broke.

Though many offered her money, she wasn't the type to owe favors, so she spent about a month going in and out of the tower to the jet hangar, completing as many missions as she could.

She could see him doing the same, though he appeared to be trying to play it cool.

"I'm not broke. And if I am, do you think a handsome boy like me wouldn't find a rich sugar mama to get some quick cash from?"

He asked with a smirk, swiping the golden card on the door and stepping into the jet.

"Didn't know you were the whoring type…"

Boss Ash said, amused.

"What? It's the oldest profession in the world. Now, say you'll miss me."

He said, watching her exhale and then turn her back.

"Don't crash."

"You—!"

He nearly coughed up blood as the jet hatch closed and he was propelled into the sky.

Boss Ash continued walking for a while before she paused, turning her head to watch the jet disappear into the sky.

"Your recommendation?"

The words suddenly echoed out through the grassland, and she turned quietly to the side, finding a man in crimson resting against a jet's half-opened hatch.

Bringing out her cigarette box, Boss Ash took one out and lit it up before walking past him.

"Not your business."

"It actually is."

The man responded, though she kept walking.

"Alice asked me to watch over him, and… he's killed someone."

He finished, and in that moment, Boss Ash's steps paused.

Slowly turning back to the crimson-clad man, whose eyes showed little change.

But the piercing look in her eyes was enough of a question and he repeated

"He killed someone, Ash."

"Smashed through the Mechara Organization in Lorianor, hurt humans and Corers alike, and killed a Corer."

"He slashed her in two."

He said, throwing a device toward Ash.

She caught it, finding the footage.

It showed him, Everlearn, raging through the organization, up until he slimmed back into a normal human, even him raising a broken scythe high above and cleaving it down through a half-destroyed person.

"I was planning on bringing him to Alice, but seeing you with him made me pause."

"I'm sure you know what happens now, don't you?"

The man asked, but then,

CRAAACK!

The sound of the device cracking into pieces rang out as Ash crushed it in her hands before flinging it away like trash.

"I'll speak to Alice myself."

She reached for the exit but paused, turning back to the man whose hands moved to open the jet's hatch.

"Are you deaf?" She asked quietly, and the man's hands paused.

"I said I'll speak to Alice myself."

She repeated once more before disappearing through the exit.

The man had a crimson glint cross his eyes, but in the end, he let go of the hatch, shutting it.

"The Demonic Ash, huh? Really a demon."
