Chapter 212: HOW DARE YOU!!!

Violet was worried, but beyond that, she was visibly pissed off as she stared at the door, which would remain shut until Cain finally showed up to open it. It was at this point that the idea of being locked in a room at least two stories up began to sink in. She walked back to the window, staring down at the ground, knowing fully well that there was no way she would jump down, even if there was someone there willing to catch her.

"Fuck!" she screeched, her eyes blazing in anger as she looked around the room with helplessness, knowing there was nothing she could do. With no choice but to head back toward the bed and sit on it, she glared at the door like it was an enemy she was determined to overcome.

Of course, she couldn’t continue sitting for hours. She went ahead to bathe and dress in a pair of black pants and an ordinary black top before stepping out. The silence grated on her nerves as she looked out the window, only to see nothing but the rows of flowers on acres of land that made up the garden.

On another day, Violet would have taken the time to admire it, but not today. She simply went ahead to shut the window and move toward the bar counter, where drinks had been arrayed, to pour herself one strong enough to knock her out.

She was starving, considering she hadn’t eaten dinner, but there was nothing she could do about it. Cain was gone, and the guards couldn’t open the door. The chances of them tossing food through the window and it still being intact were slim, and something she didn’t look forward to.

Violet had just taken a sip of the contents in her glass, a frown flashing across her face as she swallowed it, when she suddenly and unexpectedly heard a knock on the door.

Her immediate reaction was to jump to her feet, dropping the cup in her hands as she headed toward the door.

"Who is it?" she immediately asked, a slight tinge of hope in her voice as she desperately needed to hear no one else’s voice but Cain’s.

Only to be sorely disappointed when the voice she heard belonged to a female.

"It’s me! Uva!"

"Cain asked me to deliver food to you in case he didn’t make it back in time!"

Violet’s immediate reaction was to open her mouth and grumble about where Uva had been the night before when the hunger pangs had begun, only to pause, her eyes widening in shock as she processed what Uva was trying to say.

"You-you can get in?" she asked, the excitement in her voice palpable as she spoke, which only became even more obvious when she heard Uva’s response.

"Yes!" Uva responded just before she slowly merged into the walls, pushing a high trolley of what smelled like divine food in front of her.

Violet’s mouth watered in anticipation for the food, but her curiosity was much greater as she moved closer to touch the walls through which Uva had entered, only to find out that they were rock solid.

"A-amazing!" Violet gasped, her eyes wide with shock and astonishment.

"Witches really are powerful!" she gasped, a respectful look in her gaze as she fixed it on Uva, whose sole focus was on settling the platters of food from the trolley onto the small dining table.

"I’m not a powerful witch with a strong bloodline. The amount of magic I can generate with my body is small," Uva explained as she busied her hands. "For walking through walls, especially with the trolley, in a day... I can only do it once."

"For a stronger witch... they would at most be able to do it a couple more times," she continued with a wry smile and an almost envious look. "For the ones with even stronger bloodlines... doing that as many times as possible in a day would be a walk in the park. Mostly top coven members can—" but she froze mid-sentence, as if catching herself, and instantly stopped speaking, concentrating instead on serving the food.

At that point, there was no way Violet would allow her to keep quiet when there was still so much she needed to hear.

"I’m a witch too... am I not?" Violet asked, a desperate look on her face as she imagined all the things she could do if she knew how to wield the magic in her body, no matter how small. She could change her face... she could walk through things... and most importantly, she could protect herself if the need arose. The trauma of what she had gone through when her eyes had been dug out was still a memory that gave her nightmares, though she simply hid it, pretending it didn’t exist.

"There’s no reason why you can’t teach me a—" but Uva didn’t allow her to finish, interrupting her before she could.

"Teach you? Without Lord Cain’s permission, I can’t do anything! The fact that I’m here is simply by his grace!" Uva responded with the most loyal tone, her eyes scrambling around in a wary manner, almost as if she was terrified that Cain was watching.

"There are no cameras!" Violet told her with conviction, but Uva simply shook her head harder than before.

"I can’t teach you anything without Lord Cain’s approval!" Uva said with a fierce tone and gaze that showed absolutely nothing could change her mind. She turned around to leave, having delivered enough food to last until evening, no matter how hungry Violet was.

But of course, Violet had no intention of letting her leave. She dashed forward and grabbed Uva’s arms, begging desperately without any attempt to hold onto her pride.

"You know what Cain is capable of... and recently... recently..." she didn’t finish the statement as she met Uva’s mostly emotionless eyes, almost as if nothing Violet said concerned her.

"If I were your sister, wouldn’t you at least teach me something... anything to ensure I don’t die a miserable death?" Violet asked, desperation at the tip of her tongue.

But in response, Uva simply raised her hand and wiped it across her face, revealing the face of an older woman who looked nothing less than 50, her once-youthful hair having turned completely white.

"I’m closer to a hundred than I am to my twenties," Uva responded, stepping to the side to evade Violet and continue on her way. But Violet stepped right into her path, refusing to let her go as she clung even harder to both her arms.

"...If you were my mother, would you allow your daughter to be so useless? One attack on this mansion, and I’ll be the first target!" Violet continued to beg without missing a beat, aware that anything she was taught, no matter how small, would be more than useful. Even if it was just a way to change her face...

Her eyes filled with unshed tears as she clung desperately to Uva and held her gaze, her heart thumping in her chest as seconds passed, waiting for a response.

Only for her heart to sink into despair when she finally heard it.

"No! If you want me to teach you, ask Cain!" freeweɓnovel.cøm

"He won’t kill you if you make a mistake, but he’ll hang my headless body out to dry on the roof if I do!" Uva said after a few seconds of deliberation, annoyed that she even had the guts to think of a response—one that should have been immediate.

Without wasting any more time, she shrugged and jerked her arms away before rushing back through the walls the way she had entered.

Violet stood there in a slight daze as tears trickled down her face, knowing better than to chase after her. She wasn’t particularly sure why she was crying as she dropped back into the chair, her appetite completely gone as she stared back at the walls she couldn’t walk through and the doors she couldn’t open.

Still, a few minutes later, she wiped her face clean and went as far as to wash her face before dedicating all her attention to the food on the table. She opened all of it, packing as much as she wanted onto her plate, her attention on nothing else but the sweet sensations that assailed her nostrils.

She took her time and ate until her stomach bulged, full to the point where she could no longer put a spoon in her mouth without feeling nauseous.

Afterward, with a mostly blank expression on her face as anger boiled within her, down to her very soul, she switched on the TV, moving to a connecting door where the lounge area was, and began to watch movies, which served as a distraction for a few hours.

By noon, one look was enough to see the fury simmering off the top of her head as she waited impatiently for Cain to appear. At first, she had been concerned about him, worried that he had gotten into trouble, but by evening, she didn’t care. She tossed the platters of food to the ground, ripped the bedsheets off the bed, and would have torn them into pieces if not for how thick they were, giving up when it became futile.

At one point, a few hours after night had fallen—around 8 PM—Violet was shocked to suddenly hear the jingling of keys in the lock. Relief flooded through her veins like blood as she bolted off the chair she sat on and out of the daze she had been stuck in.

She hadn’t gotten to the door when she watched Cain stride in, wearing a black suit that looked immaculate with an inner white t-shirt. His hair was slicked back, and his shoes shone with such sleekness that it was obvious they were new.

Violet didn’t even catch the expression on his face when she dashed forward, raised her hand, and smacked him across the cheek, tears running down her face as she yelled at him.

"HOW DARE YOU!"
