Mated To My Best Friend's Lycan Alpha Brothers-Chapter 479: A Battle Of Snidey Remarks
(Author’s POV)
"Myra, how are you doing?" Dion asked, reaching out to her. He tried to sound cool and calm, but he instead came off a bit too sentimental. Fortunately, he said it softly so nobody apart from Myra heard it.
After William’s call, Nora had relayed his words to all her brothers and told them not to visit Myra for the time being. Though everyone was opposed to the decision, they couldn’t do anything as it was a decision made by their mate’s parents and for the betterment of Myra. So, eventually, they all gave in.
Dion was getting updates about Myra’s condition from Wendy when he went to hold a class, and Nora, who called William on a regular basis.
But getting verbal news was nowhere near seeing her in person.
Myra, for the first time in what felt like ages to him, didn’t give him any death stare or frown or a blank look; instead, she smiled at him, a genuine smile and said, "Much better."
Dion’s heart leapt in his chest, thumping wildly. Finally~ .... finally, finally, she wasn’t avoiding him. He didn’t know the reason behind it, but he was just glad. Standing closely, he could see the circles under her eyes had almost vanished, and even her pale skin had improved to a great extent. The last time he saw her, she looked gaunt and badly hurt, like a broken, ragged doll.
Now, even the sound of her even breathing pattern was like music to him. It was soothing, comforting, giving him immense solace.
But something hit him all of a sudden. This sort of miraculous recovery, he had seen in only supernatural beings like werewolves and vampires. Myra was a full-fledged human being. So, how was it possible?
Wendy interrupted their moment when she stepped forward and chimed in, "You know how scared I was when I couldn’t reach Dad’s phone. I thought something terrible had happened to you. And Prof. Everests~ ...." She glanced at Dion and continued, "He was so kind to offer me a lift to the hospital. Even though he had another class lined up."
Last time, she had observed how Dion treated her sister. The way he looked at her and talked to her gave away his feelings. So, she was giving him a push. Although she was still rooting for Fabian, but Dion Everests can’t be ignored. He had all the qualities to be worthy of being her sister’s companion. Greek godlike looks, smart and intelligent enough to be a professor at Red Stone, freaking rich, and, most importantly, a caring and kind person at heart. Plus, he was Nora and Elio’s sibling, so he had to be trustworthy.
"Really? That’s~ ... that is~ ... I am so sorry, Prof. Everests. Because of this~ ... your work is impacted," Sandra spoke.
"Ma’am~ ... as I said before, it isn’t bothersome for me at all. Myra’s health is the top priority," his words sounded so assuring. Sandra was impressed. He then added, "Umm~ ... please feel free to call me by my name. I am not much older than Myra, and we are friends. In return, may I call you Aunt Sandra?"
Sandra contemplated for a brief moment, then readily agreed, "Alright, Dion."
"Uncle William, when did you say Myra will be discharged?" he then shifted his attention to William and inquired. Seeing a peculiar expression, he explained, "I just~ ... thought I would when it happens, I will drive you all back to your house, safely. The cabs and taxis aren’t safe these days."
Before William could reply, a familiar voice came from the door, "There is no need for that, Dion."
Everyone’s gaze shifted.
"Fabian~ ...?" William said.
Fabian nodded and spoke, his eyes locked on Dion with a smug look, "Your intentions are good. But there would be no need for you to drive them home."
"And why is that?" Dion arched his brow, his tone challenging.
"Because~ ..." Fabian dragged the word, showing off a set of what looked like car keys in his hand as he walked towards William. Retracting his gaze from Dion, he looked at William and said, "Uncle Will, I have brought what you have asked." His tone was quite intimate. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
A smile appeared on William’s face as he queried, "Didn’t you say it would take two or three more days to get the deal done?"
"I said it, but when I told them about your situation, fortunately, they agreed to do the handover today," Fabian replied. They both were talking like they were close friends.
"That’s great," William was delighted.
"Dad, Prof. Stephens, what’s going on? What are you two talking about so eagerly?" Wendy asked with a puzzled expression. "And~ ... what’s with that key?"
"This is~ .... I wanted to buy a car for safe transportation. Fabian just helped me finalize one," William told everyone.
"Huhh? A car? All of a sudden? Why didn’t you tell me?" Sandra questioned.
"It was a surprise, so~ .... SURPRISE," William said awkwardly. Then he added, "You see, the university is located in a remote area. And as Prof. Everests rightly said, cabs aren’t a safe means of transport anymore. So, I thought a car would be feasible for all of us. Plus, it would be convenient to have our own vehicle." His words sounded simple, but the concern behind them wasn’t concealed. They all knew why he took that step.
"You did the right thing, honey," Sandra remarked, walking towards him. "I have something to talk to you. Let’s go outside." Hearing her, she and William departed the room.
"So~ .... Dion, now you know why they won’t be needing your help," Fabian shifted his attention back on Dion, making a snidey remark with a plain face. He then added, "But I appreciate that you offered your valuable time." He said it like he was already a part of the Miracle family, staking a claim on them.
He was provoking Dion badly. But Dion wasn’t the one to get provoked so easily. Although his wolf, Drey, was aggravated beyond measure, but he kept a calm demeanour, as he said, a charismatic smile curving on his lips, "Fabian, the offer was for Myra’s family. So, I think it is only right if they tell me directly and not an outsider."
Fabian’s face fell, his hands clenched on either side as Dion matched his earlier smug look.
