Chapter 225: Separation - 4••

When they came back and sat inside the car, Jeren had already realized that visiting every nearby police station would be a waste of time.

Instead of doing that, it would be simpler to ask Damon’s mother directly.

"D, call Damon right now and ask him which police station his mother sent that kid to."

D took his hand off the steering wheel, pulled out his mobile from his pocket, and started typing a message to Damon.

As he was typing, suddenly Silas received a message.

When he checked, it was from Damon, and it had the name of the police station.

"Mr. Jeren, look—Damon has sent the name of the police station where his mother sent Velric."

Silas handed the mobile to Jeren so he could see the name of the police station. Jeren quickly instructed D to take them there.

As D started driving, Silas was feeling nervous—now that he knew which police station Velric was in, the anxiety only grew with each passing second.

Just then, Jeren tapped Silas on the shoulder, making Silas glance at him.

"Yes?"

"Don’t be nervous. Everything is going to be fine. I promise, you’re going to eat tonight’s dinner with that kid."

Silas smiled. It was strange how just hearing those words from Jeren made him feel relieved.

"I’m feeling fine now. Thank you, Mr. Jeren."

Jeren gently smiled, patted Silas’s head, and then turned to look outside the window.

Damon had sent another message too, but Silas didn’t see it—he had already turned off his data.

After a while, they finally reached the police station.

Jeren and Silas stepped out of the car, and this time, D got out as well.

Without wasting a single second, Silas rushed inside the police station, with Jeren and D following close behind.

As he entered, he saw a few children sitting in the waiting area. He hurried over to check, hoping to spot Velric—but Velric wasn’t there at all.

Silas’s heart skipped a beat when he didn’t see Velric there. But just then... a police officer appeared, walking in with Velric.

Seeing him—finally—Silas felt relieved. He was just about to run toward Velric when suddenly, a child sitting nearby grabbed his hand.

"Uncle," the child said, climbing down from the chair and hugging Silas’s leg tightly, bursting into loud tears.

These children were all reported missing today, which was why they had been brought to the police station.

The police were doing their best to locate their families.

And the kid hugging Silas’s leg? He was the same one who had been arguing with Velric earlier, calling him an orphan.

But when Velric noticed this, his eyes widened. He ran over and pushed the kid away from Silas.

Because Silas was his mumma—how could he stay quiet while another kid clung to his mumma?

"STAY AWAY FROM MY MUMMA!"

In his anger, Velric had pushed the kid with full force. The child’s head hit the chair, and he started crying loudly.

Seeing that, for a moment, Silas feared something bad had happened to the child.

He quickly turned toward the kid, squatted down, and hugged him to comfort him.

Silas knew that Velric had pushed the kid, and if something had happened to him, everyone would blame Velric.

That’s why he was trying to comfort the child—so he wouldn’t tell anyone that Velric had pushed him.

But while comforting that kid, Silas had forgotten that a child’s heart is like cotton—it breaks so easily.

When Velric saw Silas hugging that kid to comfort him instead of him, his heart shattered into pieces.

His face looked like his entire world had crumbled.

While patting the other kid’s back, Silas’s attention finally landed on Velric.

Seeing his expression, he quickly let go of the child and rushed toward him.

Silas picked Velric up into his arms, and Velric hugged him tightly without saying a word.

After that, the police asked if he was Velric’s guardian.

Jeren handled the situation, and from there, he drove Silas and Velric directly to Silas’s apartment.

Since Jeren had an urgent meeting, he left soon after dropping them off.

When they entered the apartment, Silas was gently patting Velric’s back.

But Velric hadn’t uttered a single word—not during the entire ride home, nor after they arrived.

Silas noticed this, but assumed it was because Velric had been away from him for too long.

Silas set Velric down on the sofa and sat beside him. But Velric only stared down at the floor in silence.

"Velric, are you upset with me?"

Hearing that, Velric glanced up at Silas but still didn’t say anything.

He just looked at him quietly, and that silence made Silas feel an overwhelming sense of guilt, like he had done something terribly wrong to deserve this.

Silas was about to apologize when suddenly, Velric broke down in tears.

He began sobbing so loudly that he started hiccupping, and the sight of it made Silas panic.

"Velric... Are you okay? I’m sorry," he said quickly, pulling Velric into a hug.

"Mumma doesn’t love me anymore... You like that boy now, right? That’s why you hugged him... like you used to hug me..."

That’s when Silas finally understood the reason behind Velric’s silence.

"I only hugged that kid so he wouldn’t blame you for pushing him, that’s all," Silas said softly, holding him tightly.

"And how could I ever love someone else? I only love you. You’re the most important person in my life."

Velric clenched Silas’s hands tightly, as if afraid he might be pushed away.

"Mumma... you’re lying?"

"No, I’m not lying. Why would I lie? I truly only love you."

Velric looked up at Silas. "More than that kid?"

"I love you more than anything in the world," Silas said gently.

"And don’t feel bad about me hugging that kid—he fell down, that’s why I hugged him. But if it makes you feel sad, then from now on, I’ll only hug you and no one else."

"Really" velric asked.
