Chapter 78: Questions From A Painful Past

[DRARUN]

"Do you believe him, sire?" Officer Kang asked the king who seemed to be in his thoughts. It had been a long day for him and with his daughter now dead, he didn’t know how he was to proceed.

He wanted to tell the officer that he didn’t believe Zhervos, but then Zhervos couldn’t have made the long trip here. It wouldn’t make any sense and the king wanted to understand. The longer he thought about it, the longer he knew there were so many risks.

"Send a messenger to the queen of rogues. Tell her that I request an audience. Remember I need her unharmed and alive and if she comes here irritated, tell the warriors that I will have their heads on a platter," the king said.

Officer Kang looked at king Nathaniel again, not believing that the king of the undead would even consider harming his own people. Whoever it was that had murdered his daughter had to have had some guts.

The king wasn’t weak, but this was his only chance. And he wasn’t going to waste it. He knew so well that the only reason Zhervos had come was so that they could work together and bring justice for Yanna.

They however didn’t know that Rania had fast-forwarded her trial dates, or that she wasn’t going to run from this. Of course, anyone who had been around Rania, knew so well that the woman never felt any remorse for all that she had done to yana and Jihoon.

If anything she was always bragging about how she would do the same thing over and over without a doubt. It made her creepy and it convinced the wolves of Obren that the Incayon was obsessed with murder.

What else could they say anyway?

"Okay sire," Officer Kang said before he walked out of the throne room. He knew there had to be more to this, but until then, he would just do as told. After all, their king was never impulsive or even did things just because he could. Nathaniel was an intelligent king.

With the instructions given, officer Kang looked around for the messenger, before giving him the king’s order.

Of course, they could have used ravens, but then that wouldn’t be too convincing. Besides, if Nathaniel was willing to send his warrior to Paloma, then it meant that it was a peaceful call, right?

Three hours later, Paloma was in the throne room of the undead, shocking even the king of the undead himself. He had assumed that it would take a lot of convincing for Paloma to show up, and yet, this time, she showed up, almost like she had been expecting him to come knocking.

"You’re here fast," King Nathaniel said and Paloma smirked as she sat on the seat that was provided to her. She looked around and could sense how weary the vampires were. Hell, even she was weary of this palace, but then they were here for business, no?

"Well, your ravens aren’t dead, Nathaniel. So for you to send your warrior, it had to be important. Anyway, I’m here now. Lay it on me. What do you want with me or from me?" Paloma asked and the king looked at her. Of course, she showed up, she always loved striking deals.

Nathaniel knew that Paloma had to have known something about the alpha, Kim Rania and that could explain why she had shown up. If anything, it was Rania that had banished Paloma and the other rogues formIncayon.

She hated Rania, or so everyone in the supernatural realm thought.

"Clear the room, all of you!" the kind suddenly said and Paloma smirked at him. Well, one thing was certain, the werewolf king wasn’t going to do anything to harm Paloma, because they all had a history and right now, he was probably hoping to win faces using that.

But would it work?

"You cunning bastard," Paloma laughed as she watched the warriors leave the room skeptically.

They didn’t understand anything here and they wouldn’t ever be able to. One by one, the warriors left and officer Kang was the last one to leave, almost like he was asking the king if he would be okay alone and with the queen of rogues.

The king just nodded and finally, it was just the two of them. Paloma and the vampire king, two people who had desires that they could provide for each other. Paloma didn’t come here just because she wanted to, but because she had to have wanted something.

Something that only the vampire king could provide her.

"You didn’t answer my question, Nate," Paloma said and the king just sighed. They had been old friends, and with the warriors gone, there was no need for formalities anymore. Paloma could see how strained the vampire king was, and she knew it had to do with his daughter.

There had been so much chatter about Yanna in the werewolf communities that Paloma had figured it was just a matter of time before the king knew that the hybrid in question was his daughter with the werewolf queen.

"Is it true?" king Nathaniel voiced out after a while. He looked like he was contemplating the amount of truth he had heard in the past few weeks, but then none of them would get him what he needed. Sometimes, the only place to look into was the past.

"Is what true, Nate?" Paloma asked, feigning innocence. Well in her defense, she and the king had been friends for way too long and there were a lot of things that the king could ask about. If he wanted to know, he had to be more specific.

"Was Eunbi pregnant when I was kidnapped by the vampires, Paloma?" the king asked and Paloma just looked at him, unsure of whether she was to answer that with all the probable ears around. Then again, no one would dare to go against Nathaniel in his own fort, right?

"Please, tell me," the king insisted, pleading with his friend to give him a truth that would probably break his already broken and dead heart.

"Why are you asking that right now? You had thirty years, Nate. Thirty years and yet you and Seojoon couldn’t even get past your own hate to protect the woman you both loved," Paloma scolded and Seojoon ran his hand frustratedly down his face.

Some things never changed and Paloma’s stubbornness had to be at the top of that list.

"That’s not an answer Paloma," the king said frustratedly and she just smiled at him, like she was enjoying his misery. Well of course she was enjoying it. Whatever happened thirty years ago to Eunbi had to have made Paloma into what she was today.

"Why would I tell you that anyway? Obren is just three days away, you can go there and ask her yourself," Paloma said dismissively, like she was done with the conversation, when she wasn’t even close to done.

Seeing Nathaniel miserable was like therapy to her and she wanted to thrive in it, at least for the sake of Eunbi anyway.

"I need to know," the king said, and expectedly, Paloma had conditions.

"Well, I want something in return. It’s not my fault that you screwed up, the three of you should have known better than to mess with that witch, otherwise, he wouldn’t have killed you and woken you up with vampire blood, no?"
