Chapter 77: The Calindra Messenger

[DRARUN]

"Zhervos from Calindra, for the king of the undead," Zhervos said to the vampire guarding the gates of Drarun.

It was obvious they hated being called the undead, but then calling them empires always had a way of asking them even more than being undead. So the warrior patiently waited as the vampires looked at him, studying him for signs of danger, which he didn’t even pose.

Zhervos had come like the true messenger he was. Having crossed every bit of the realm he knew how to deal with the different factions, which could also explain why the vampires knew him and had figured that he was really here on official duty.

"You may come in," the warrior at the gates said, before telling him to wait a moment. He was probably officiating the papers and taking his copy, but that didn’t even stress Zhervos out like the shit in his mind.

Instead, he was still thinking of the fact that their Calindra luna had been the vampire king’s daughter. It raised so many questions because for as long as everyone knew. Nathaniel had been the vape king for almost thirty years now.

It just didn’t make any sense to him. How the hell had a real hybrid gotten stuck in Calendar and why was it so easy to kill her on the battlefield?

Zhervos knew Rania was a psycho, but he wanted to know what had happened that day too. The more truths are brought to light the more he was sure that there had to be something that Kim Rania was hiding.

Well, the woman wasn’t known to be a great sharer, so expecting her to open up and be frank with them was just going to be a waste of time. The packs in Obren had considered pulling out of the alliances with Incayon, but then the trial had saved Incayon.

If the trial hadn’t been pushed forward and if it hadn’t been planned, then Incayon would be their own, even in the case of an invasion in Obren. That was the worst thing that could happen to any pack.

"Please wait here, the high guard Kang Mo Yoo will receive you," the warrior at the gates said to Zhervos who just nodded. He hadn’t come to Drarun for so long that he could have sworn that the guards changed, but then even if they did, there was nothing for him to benefit from there.

Thirty minutes later, Kang Mo Yoo hadn’t shown up, even though Zhervos had tried to imagine him over and over.

The warriors had gone back to their duties while Zhervos was haunted by the evident blank space in the truths about Kim Rania and Park Yanna. It was almost like someone was lying, but they didn’t even know that yet.

"Are you the messenger from Calindra?" a voice interrupted Zhervos’s line of thoughts, and he raised his head to see whoever had called him.

He looked at the man, who was six feet tall and had tanned a little. He was evidently a soldier, from his posture and he was a powerful one too. Zhervos could tell that from the way the guards at the gates had gone silent.

"Yes, my name is Zhervos, and I have a message for king Nathaniel, from Alpha Jihoon of Calindra," the messenger responded and officer Kang just nodded.

"Follow me," officer Kang said before he led the way to the Drarun palace. The vampires were busy with their daily lives as Zhervos had noticed and they weren’t even worried about the stranger in their home.

Oh, to be undead and unscared of any threats.

It had to be a beautiful feeling anyway. Drarun was just like the stories had said. It was filled with beautiful-looking undead who had resting bitch faces. There were no signs of children around, but that was expected, considering the vampires turned their people, through vampire bites.

It was that easy but still a little awkward. Zhervos knew not to say that though, because he didn’t want to be their next subject.

Officer Kang made an instant stop and it was then that Zhervos realized that they had reached the royal palace of Drarun, and that he was standing in the throne room. Compared to the Obren throne, this one looked a little too tiny, and again, Zhervos kept his thoughts to himself.

"The king will see you in a bit," officer Kang said to Zehervos, before grabbing a seat and offering it to Zhervos who thankfully took it. The duo sat in silence when King Nathaniel walked into the throne room.

"State your message," the king said to Zhervos, not even bothering with the greeting everyone knew that Obren and Drarun were enemies which was also why sending a werewolf to Drarun was a crazy ass occurrence.

But it had happened and right now Nathaniel had no choice but to listen to what Zhervos had to say.

"I come from Calindra, and I have a message from Alpha Jihoon," Zhervos said, and he instantly saw the king sit closer to the edge of his seat. It was something unexpected, but Nathaniel knew it had to be from Calindra.

He had heard the rumors of a war brewing in Obren and now that the messenger was here, he could bet that the wolves wanted backup. Well, he was right in that aspect, but they didn’t need backup from him.

They just needed enough force on the universe to give Kim Rania one of the harshest punishments for murder.

"Continue," the undead king said.

"The alpha wishes to report that your daughter, Yanna Park, mated to the alpha of Calindra, was murdered five years ago, and that we have found the murderer. The alpha wishes to know if you will join the battle for justice for your daughter—

"— or if her life means nothing to you now that she is dead. The alpha insists that you know how our Luna was killed—" Zhervos said, before continuing to explain the ordeal, making sure to follow Jihoon’s instructions about mentioning Rania and her participation in the breaking out of the werewolf prince.

It was a sad state for Nathaniel, especially since he had been hoping to meet his daughter. He had failed to be the father to his love child with Eunbi, and he knew so well that Eunbi wasn’t in a position to defend their child publicly.

This right here was a far cry and it was the werewolves who had loved Yanna had come to the vampire king for help.

He could at least offer them that anyway.

"Who killed my daughter?" Nathaniel asked, ignoring the silent gasps of the vampires in the room, even officer Kang’s worried gasp. The impossible had made a show, and right now, king Nathaniel could either be a father, or leave everything to fate.

It has just been a week since he knew he had a daughter and now he was being told that she had died five years ago. Nathaniel thought about Jungwoo’s anger when he confronted the king. It was so real, so raw, and to think that even he wasn’t aware that his sister had died.

That shit messed with him.

"Alpha Kim Rania, of the Incayon pack, your majesty," Zhervos said before bowing to the king and walking back to his seat. His work here was done, and he had no reason to stay any longer.

"Thank you, Zhervos. Pass my greetings to the Calindra alpha," the vampire king said, not even acknowledging what Zhervos had said.

From his experience, Zhervos could already tell the answer that the vampire king had for his alpha; but he would wait and see if the king was really going to ignore the harsh truths, or if he was finally going to pick up the damn weapons and head into war for the child he should have defended.
