Mated to A Rival Alpha-Chapter 75: The Beta’s Dangerous Bane
[RANIA]
"You still won’t talk to me? Come on Dalrae. I’m your friend," Rania said to Dalrae.
The morning was busy, with the wolves catching up, and telling stories of how the party last week had been. It had also been a week since Dalrae had said a word to Rani. It was like she was on a mission to figure out how long she would stay silent with her friend.
"Get these to the warriors in the east. Make sure you tell them it’s three days’ worth of food supply. And remind them to be vigilant. We don’t want any more impromptu attacks against Incayon," Dalrae said to one of the warriors who were tasked with feeding the other.
Since they had come from the party, security had been beefed up and everyone was training. Any kid above the age of thirteen was eligible to pick up a weapon. Of course, they blamed Rania for it, but Dalrae wasn’t exactly in the mood to sit, and listen to their people whine.
"Yes, beta. May I take my leave now?" the warrior asked and Dalrae dismissed him, before she walked back into the pack house.
Rania was following closely behind, careful not to reach Dalrae’s personal space, but guilty enough to eat and be healthy. It was the least she could do after coming from the damned mission and being the target all over again.
She knew Dalrae would be worried about her, so she figured she would take care of herself to show her sister that she was taking her life seriously.
"Dalrae."
"Lim Lim."
"My only sister."
"The perfect beta."
"Can someone please tell the alpha to fucking shut up, and go attend to her duties, please," Dalrae clamored angrily at anyone who was in the room with them, making Rania take a pause However, that didn’t even scare Dalrae.
Instead, the beta walked into her office, before slamming shut the doors. She didn’t wanna be disturbed.
The wolves looked at Kim Rania and wondered how the fuck they were supposed to tell her to be quiet, when she was the Incayon alpha. Rania knew they were all thinking it was a death sentence for them and decided to make it easier.
"Umm... Don’t worry about me. I’ll... I’ll shut up and go do my duties, yup. My duties,’’ Rania shrugged awkwardly as she walked into her office and slammed the door shut. She looked at the office she was in, at the files on her desk, at everything that was meant to be done by her.
She always wanted silence and yet now that she had gotten it, she felt like her world was coming apart. Her best friend was mad at her with good reason and yet for the life of her, Rania couldn’t help but think it was better this way.
Rania knew the upcoming trial was dangerous, and Dalrae would want to save her as usual, which Rani didn’t really need at the moment. She needed Dalrae to be safe, which was also why as she sat in her office she prayed to the goddess to keep her sister safe; her constant wish.
"Rani, can I come in?" Luna Kim expressed as she stood outside her daughter’s office. She had heard of the differences between Dalrae and Rania and was hoping that she could convince Rania or even Dalrae to ease up on themselves.
Well, she had tried talking to Dalrae and hadn’t got anywhere with it. So she would try the most difficult woman in the pack, if not the whole of Obren Besides, what could go wrong, right?
"What do you want luna Kim?" Rania said to her mother not even caring to address her properly.
The woman had watched her in pain and hadn’t done shit, instead, she had watched as her only daughter got harassed by the whole pack, and bullied while she watched from her seat on the throne. Granted, Rania was now the alpha, but still, her mother had failed her big time.
"I just want to talk, Rani,"’ Luna Kim replied, her voice composed like she was trying to tell Rania that she wasn’t her enemy at the moment. But would Rania believe the mother who had been present yet very much absent from her life?
Would she try to make peace with her mother at this time?
"Go away. If you have a message for me, write it down and slide it under the door. Otherwise, go ask Dalrae. My office is busy at the moment, with the trial coming and all. And please tell everyone in Incayon to brace themselves for Dalrae being the alpha.
"She will take over from me soon, thank you," Rania said just before clashes were heard in the next room that room belonged to Dalrae, or rather, it was the beta’s office and right now, the woman seemed to be throwing shit against the wall and the floor.
’Isn’t that supposed to be my reaction?’ Rania thought to herself amusedly when the commotion got louder. She was tempted to go in, but dealing with a pissed Dalrae, especially when Rania wasn’t ready to open up, wasn’t ideal.
And so she listened as people tried to calm her best friend down.
She listened as her mother comforted Dalrae and told her what Rania had said.
She listened as everyone showed Dalrae with the love that Rania could only ever dream of.
And even then, Rania listened as her best friend kicked everyone out, and shut the door frustratedly after them.
Getting up quietly, Rania looked at the door that linked her office to Dalrae’s, taking small steps toward the door. She wasn’t sure what she ended up doing, but she knew for a fact that only she was Dalrae’s bane and she needed to fix that.
Her best friend was in a terrible mood and it was her fault, but then with so much at stake, Rania stopped midway. She wondered if Dalrae would even want to listen to her at the moment.
All that she had ever given Dalrae were excuses upon excuses, and that was what was slowly killing the both of them.
’Maybe she doesn’t want to talk to me, right?’ Rania questioned herself, but a part of her knew that if she could just come clean to Dalrae, she could end all of this. The morning was still beautiful and yet she had managed to ruin it for everyone.
Sighing defeatedly, Rania walked back to her seat, before deciding to focus on the reports that needed her attention. It was the only way she could try and keep her focus. Maybe this would give her the courage she needed to come clean to Dalrae.
Maybe then, she could not have to face a pissed beta who wanted the best for her. And so for the rest of the morning, Rania worked on her reports, understanding the threats that Incayon had received and drafting retaliation plans for them
She realized that most of the conflicts Dalrae had sorted and she was good at it. This right here was the proof she ended to show their people that Dalrae was the better alpha.
It didn’t matter that Rania was born for the crown. She would be gone soon and she couldn’t try and pretend like she would be here forever.
"Alpha, there’s a package for you, from Paloma, the queen of rogues," a voice heard outside Rania’s office before an envelope slid under her door.
Just great.
