Chapter 72: The Vampires Want Me

[RANIA]

When she had let Jihoon run his mouth at the prince’s feast, Kim Raia had felt ready for the consequences of her actions. She wasn’t scared of what was coming her way because it was something she dealt with on a daily basis.

She was accustomed to the hate, the despise the angry outbursts, and the blatant disrespect to her entire existence. That was something that she wasn’t even worried about, which was also why when they had left the party.

Rania had made sure to keep Dalrae sober, since she wasn’t ready to be sober yet.

Rania wanted to live in her horror and as it was, the universe was busy answering her prayers.

"Careful Dalrae," Rania said when she saw the mess that was her home. Even though she was hated by her people, Rania loved them and their home, but the sight before them was wild. It was almost like someone had attacked incayon while they were away.

Granted, it was a stupid idea because everyone knew Rania would avenge every single one of her fallen wolves.

Rania handed Dalrae an ointment they usually carried with them to mask off their scents and that of their horses. It was easier going into enemy territory if the enemies didn’t know what they were expecting, than having the enemy know that they were around.

"What happened here?" Dalrae asked, her voice low since she didn’t want to tell anyone that they were home. They needed to assess the threat and the only way to do that was for both of the to get in and see for themselves what the fuck was happening.

Carefully, the two best friends got off their horses, and tied the horses a safe distance from the gates. It was safe enough for the animals not to be spooked and for them not to be in any danger.

"Someone wants to die so bad," Dalrae said angrily, the sight at home having spared her real quick. Pushing the gates of Incayong, the two walked into their home.

The warrior station at the gates was empty and there were traces of blood in their seats. Dalrae checked the left side while Rania took the right and their results were the same. There was no sign of the Incayon wolves.

"It seems like everyone has been moved to safety, or they are being held hostage," Rania said as she put her sword back into its sheath and Dalrae did the same.

They still had knives in their hands just in case someone showed up from nowhere. These two women were warriors who had fought wars and won and this here, was possibly icing on the cake.

"The mind links are shut, Rani," Dalrae said to her friend who was trying to sniff out any foreign scents.

It was weird that there was blood all over but there were no scents. The only conclusion that Rabia could come to, was that the undead were holding her people, which would really be a terrible idea.

"Fuck. okay fine. Go into the warrior’s office and stay there. Come out only when I call for you," Rania said to Dalrae who looked at her best find like she didn’t believe what she was hearing.

Of course, her friend was insane, but it seemed like Rani had mastered the art of shocking Dalrae every chance she got.

"No. Now move," Dalrae said, leaving no room for argument. She knew Rania was preparing to sacrifice herself for her people who were an ungrateful bunch.

Dalrae was so done with any and everyone who was looking at Rania differently and she was determined to prove to them that the alpha was a good person. It was impossible to have a friend like Dalrae and be the devil’s spawn. It wouldn’t make any sense anyway.

"But—"

"Are you going to lead or should I?" Dalrae asked Rania, ignoring Rania’s pleas. She wasn’t leaving her best friend out here and she had made it clear all the other times. If Rania wanted to hear Dalrae say no to her one more time, then Dalrae was ready to do it.

"Okay then. I’ll seek them out, since if we go that deep we may be surrounded. We seem to have an advantage on this side. Are you ready?" Rania asked Dalrae and she just smiled.

"I’m more than ready. Besides, I need to punch things now," Dalrae said and Rania just nodded. There was a reason these two were stuck to the hip. They understood each other so damn well.

Together, the two let out growls that were heard across the whole Incayon pack. Their growls were challenging and full of spite.

If anything, it was showing their disdain at the state they had found their home. This wasn’t what they had expected when they left for the palace. Granted, half of their people were at the palace, but still, coming to an almost empty home wasn’t just it.

Rania and Dalrae kept growling and for some weird reason, the more they growled, the more silence they were met with. Were they really attacked? Or were the wolves voluntarily hiding? And if that were so, why were there blood trails?

"This isn’t working. Try reaching my parents, they will listen to you more than me," Rania said as she looked around, trying to come up with a reason for all this mess.

As Dalrae was trying to reach the Kims, they were waking deeper into the pack, ready to defend their people and save as many lives as they could, and then avenge their fallen as was their tradition.

"Nothing. Maybe they went to the caves," Dalrae suggested when they reached the packhouse and there was still no sign of life. A whole pack of wolves didn’t just disappear into thin air.

"Here, I got something," Rania said and Dalrae rushed to see what her friend had gotten. It was a note, written in shabby handwriting. The alpha and her beta could smell the fear of the person who had written the note.

"The Vampires said they are coming for us. If you come from the party, make sure to join us in the caves. We have Kim Rania to thank for this, again," Rania read out and let out a sigh of relief as she plummeted to the ground.

She was still hung over and wanted to rest. Clearly, the vampires weren’t here, because if they were, then the message could have been addressed to Dalrae in the hope that she would talk to Rania.

The wolves always did that, whenever they thought the Calindra wolves or even their enemies wanted to come and attack them in their home. But then they never came, because everyone knew better.

"They’re okay, Dalrae. They’re okay, now we can relax," Rania said while Dalrae was still on the lookout.

Of course, she knew that Rania was the best tracker in Incayon and could sense danger from afar but the fact that her best friend was this comfortable with the threat of the vampires wasn’t really resonating with her.

"You realize they said the vampires are coming, because of you?" Dalrae asked as she slowly sat beside Rania’s stretched-out figure. She had changed her position from the sitting position to laying flat on the lawn before the pack house.

Anyone would think that she ascertained their people were never going to be in harm’s way, with how she was acting.

"The vampires want me, for killing one of their own, not the people of Incayon. Yanna was a hybrid, remember? Relax love," Rania said flippantly to Dalrae who was so close to smacking her in the head.
