Chapter 256: The Last Of The Coroner’s Smiles [1]

[OBREN PALACE]

Chaos.

Blood spurting all over.

Screams from women and children.

Servants running away to get to safety.

The palace doors shut and closed in bouts.

And in the middle of it all, the queen of vengeance, Paloma Mishra.

"Kill everything you see in front of you!! Spare no one!!" Paloma shouted as a reminder to her warriors.

The road to the palace had been long and it had been tedious. They had known that it would be a little challenging since they had to walk on foot, but seven agonizing days later and six nights, they had finally made it.

War had finally knocked on Obren’s gates and Paloma Mishra, the rogue queen, was here to give it to them all. She had come to avenge Rania, in the pretense of the broken treaty, and boy was she already loving it.

Everything was about to be messier than any of them had anticipated, but Paloma didn’t care. She had come for the prize and the dumb head king was the prize for her. She wasn’t about to compromise with anyone.

When they had gotten to the gates two days ago, Paloma and her warriors had stayed hidden in the huge forest that surrounded the Obren palace.

She knew that they had to figure out a way and a perfect time for them to go in, given the palace security had been tripled.

It would take them a lot of manpower to even make it through the gates, and Paloma considered all the possible outcomes of what was about to go down.

Granted, she didn’t have any expectations, but she knew that the goal would be met, no matter what happened, at least that much was obvious to her and her people.

"We will go in tomorrow night," Paloma had said to her warriors who had gotten comfortable. They were excited to cause chaos and the fact that they had their mad queen of vengeance with them, gave them the reassurance they had always wanted.

"That works. I don’t mind staring at the people we will butcher tomorrow for a few more hours anyway," Oshita had said gladly as he stared at the guards at the gate. However, in their wait, they saw something that had been unexpected.

They saw someone who should have been miles and miles away. Funny how the universe had found a way of bringing them together despite all that was happening.

"Hold on, is that—" one of the warriors asked as he looked at the palace gates. There was a familiar wolf, one that they could have sworn they had seen more times than they ever wished to.

She was the wolf that wasn’t supposed to be there, but then as it was, she was here anyway. What the hell was she doing at the palace anyway?

"Yanna Petrova, as I live and breathe. That bitch was given the chance to run away and decided to go to the Obren palace? Of all the damn fucking places she just had to choose the place that was built with blood?

"I guess blood always pulls blood. But that means more slaughters for us anyway," Paloma said and the rogues agreed with her.

Yanna was the target of everyone loyal to Rania and honestly, seeing her in the palace was a little unexpected and threw them off for a moment. Then again, this meant that they would be able to find out what Yanna Petrova was planning and why she had chosen this place to come.

Seeing Jungwoo be the one to get Yanna into the palace, gave Paloma a few terrible ideas, and she was definitely considering exploring them. The price was already too much for them to pay, so they could as well make it fun, no?

Either Jungwoo had decided to play the long game and was now trying to hide the woman or he was ready to tell Seojoon that Yanna was his sister then again there were so many things surrounding Yanna and the king.

It wouldn’t be a peaceful reunion or whatever the fuck they were both hoping for. Perhaps that was a matter that would be considered at a later time, right?

Paloma knew that it was the right time to strike the palace. She wasn’t going to wait for two days anymore. She would strike the palace when the sun came up, and she would make sure they felt the brunt of her hits.

Granted, she had never imagined that she would be seeing Yanna on this side of the realm, but then it so happened.

Oshita was excited too, for the blood of the woman who had hurt one of their own. He was determined to get a cut on her or something. He was not going to miss the opportunity to make Yanna Petrova pay.

"Remember, we are here because of the treaty. Yanna is just a bonus for us. Keep that in mind. Those of you who still think their humanity will change the kingdom for the better, you can take the long road back home, and I won’t blame you.

"Those of you crazy enough to stay, do remember that this is a slaughter mission. We will ask questions only to the king. Everyone else is to be taken out. I don’t care if you meet the dumb queen herself.

"The royal family is however to be left alive, to see the madness of what they triggered. Am I clear, or am I clear?" Paloma asked and her warriors cheered on blindly.

They loved being here.

They loved what they were doing and they had been thirsting to come after Obren for all the atrocities that most of them had gone through.

Of course, they all had reasons why they were rogues and while some were actionable and reasonable, they had been rehabilitated over the years by Paloma herself, and right now, they could tell what was right and what was wrong.

Although that in itself had taken them a lot of time and energy not to mention discipline. It didn’t matter where they were headed, as long as the mission was complete and they knew where they were expected to be, always.

"Yes, your majesty!!" the warriors had cheered before Paloma and Oshita led them into ambushing the unsuspecting warriors.

The warriors at the gates were the easiest to take out. Maybe because Paloma and her team were savages who had chosen to abandon their humanity specifically for this mission. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

They didn’t have reason to hold on or to fight fair, because the king had been undermining rogues for years and years on end. The missing seal and the fucked up treaties were just what they needed to trigger a war.

They were the right and perfect motivation for the insanities to make a dance to the show. It didn’t matter that Paloma and Oshita had taken part in triggering the war.

What mattered was they managed to make their lives better and teach the king a lesson he would always remember. It was a given anyway.

"Chargee!!" Oshita said to the team he had been given. They were a cruel bunch of creation and what they had done wasn’t what anyone would be proud of, but maybe it was good that they weren’t humane right?
