Chapter 182: I’ll Always Protect You, Always [2]

[RANIA]

While she slept, Chang Wook didn’t leave Kim Rania’s room.

He was worried about her and he didn’t trust anyone in Incayon other than Dalrae and the team that was still outside the gates. He didn’t have a reason to trust Incayon really because most of these people had wanted his sister dead for years on end.

If he left her alone while she was at her most vulnerable state, there was no telling what they would do to her, and even more, their parents.

It was something that no parent would ever do, no matter how much they hated their children, but maybe the Kims were an exception.

But what if there was a reason they were not doing anything for Rania right now? Why were they waiting to see her damaged and hurt?

What was in it for them and more than anything, what was the reason they were both holding back? It just didn’t make any sense to anyone at the moment.

"I’ll always protect you, little sister," Chang Wook whispered to his sister when he saw her twitch in her sleep. He had known for a while that Kim Rania had nightmares that she always refused to talk about.

He wasn’t sure what had triggered them but he would get to the bottom of it.

However, he was willing to bet on his life that their parents had something to do with how broken his little sister was. It wasn’t anything to be proud of and Chang Wook was so mad at them. What could he do though?

As Chang Wook was in his sister’s bedroom, the warriors outside were picking up their wounded and taking them to the dispensary, which also happens to be inside the same pack house that Rania was sleeping in.

It took a lot of restraint for Chang Wook not to walk out there and tell them to shut the fuck up and let Rania have her sleep. He couldn’t stand anyone here right now, really and he was right not to.

"You have seen what she can do, Byungho. Our daughter managed to bring the whole realm together. She managed to bring the rogues, the wolves, the warlocks, and even Odelia herself to her side.

"There is no telling how many vampires she has on her side. I think she is ready right now," Luna Kim said to her husband.

They were trying to keep their voices low while in their office in the pack house and Chang Wook wanted to know what it was all about.

He wanted to understand what the fuck Rania had done that their parents to hate her so much, but was it really hate. Earlier, Rania had said that their parents had conspired with Jihoon to hurt Rania. That was something that Chang Wook had never expected.

Sure, his parents always wanted Incayon to be strong and were willing to do whatever they needed to for Incayon, but Chang Wook never imagined that his little sister would be the price that was paid for the strength of Incayon.

She had always overworked herself and felt inadequate even when she had done things that most would sweat a load, before they managed to do. He wanted to understand but then he couldn’t walk up to them and ask them himself.

So with his magic, the warrior healer amplified his hearing so he would be able to hear what they were saying. Hopefully, he would get a reason why they had done her dirty like that, right?

"She’s not ready, Hyejin. Look at how she strained herself earlier today. Our daughter has the same powers as her brother and yet she doesn’t know about it.

"It should have come naturally to her when she was threatened by the king, and instead, she just walked in and commanded the people to help her. Sure, her command gave them options, but we both know she wouldn’t need anyone to fight her battles for her.

"If she managed to awaken her powers, then she would be the most powerful hybrid to ever live. She’s not ready for that, and we can’t train her because you suggested we banish her and disown her," Byungho said accusingly and his wife just sighed.

She knew what she had suggested was insane and had to be the cruelest thing that a mother would have done. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

And even if Rania hadn’t heard the words from her, the fact that she had watched her own daughter’s heart be broken a hundred times over three months ago, made her feel like shit.

Everything seemed to be well with them until it wasn’t and right now, the guilt of that itself was stopping them from going to their daughter and embracing her.

"Because I thought that anger and betrayal would wake up her powers. I thought she would snap and blast us with her powers, I thought it was the perfect trigger for her, but she took it so well. Our child was so broken that even when we broke her it was nothing to her.

"I didn’t expect her to be that strong, Byungho, and now she is sleeping just a few doors down, thinking that we hated her for years. What the hell am I supposed to do when she loses herself? She already lost Jungwoo and us.

"She can’t keep losing like this, Byungho. I can’t take it anymore," Luna Kim said and her husband just watched her with soft and defeated eyes.

It hurt that everything was happening like this, but he also knew that Kim Rania had to awaken that power herself. Then again, it was almost impossible right now, because rejection had broken her way too much.

Rejection everywhere had turned her into the shell they had met earlier and that wasn’t fair in so many ways.

"We have to do something before she shuts down, because I know she will go after Nathaniel and Seijoon, and she can’t win if she doesn’t have her powers. Nathaniel knows that she is special and he knows what power she holds within.

"If she goes after Nathaniel in her anger, then he could defeat her and make her a prisoner. Our daughter can’t be a prisoner to anyone anymore, Hyejin. Our little girl can’t suffer in his hands anymore," Alpha Kim said to his wife.

Chang Wook who had been listening to them was doing a good job holding himself back, but then the more he listened to his parents, the more he learned of everything that they had done and what they were afraid of, the more he wanted to walk in there.

It made him want to walk in and ask them why the fuck they couldn’t protect his sister. He wanted answers for so many things, and the fact that Kim Rania was in danger and didn’t even know, was fucking with Chang Wook.

Granted they had a team that wouldn’t hesitate to fight for her, but Jisung had gone back to the palace and he had seen the things that had happened today. It was all just a matter of time before they all heard of who was on Rani’s team.

It was all just too much for Kim Rania to bear, but the woman wouldn’t even complain if she heard it, and that was the one reason why Chang Wook wanted to protect her even more.

’You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.’
