Mated to A Rival Alpha-Chapter 128: Missing You... It’s Breaking Me

[DALRAE]
Dalrae lifted her head as if to ask the man if there were any other stupid ideas he was still holding onto in his head, because this surely couldn’t be the same brain that he wanted to rule Obren with, right?
"If it helps, the previous ceremony was held at the palace, and this time, I truly selected Incayon to prove to Father and the wolves that Incayon wasn’t bad, and that they had earned the horrible name because of Rani.
"Besides this is a chance for Incayon to reclaim its glory as the strongest pack in the kingdom," Jungwoo said and Dalrae just listened to him.
She knew he had a point, and that made her hate him even more.
The fact that people had always assumed that the great Incayon had gone down the drain because of what Rania had done was stupid. This pack had been strong and would always remain strong because of Rania.
It wasn’t just because of the reputation but Rania had single-handedly picked her best warriors. She had trained the warriors herself and even sparred with them. She had given them a chance to be known and that was why they were strong.
Maybe everyone out there didn’t know that, but it was a truth that even the Kims wouldn’t ever be able to deny. Kim Rania had done everything and more for the pack, despite the eventual outcome of it all.
"Yeah right. Because this isn’t just another trap to see if Rani will come home from wherever her banishment took her. You really are something," Dalrae said and Jungwoo just stayed silent. What was he supposed to say to that anyway?
Jungwoo felt guilty and he hoped that bringing the festival to Incayon, to lighten the mood of the wolves would be part of his apology to Rania. Maybe there would come a day when he would see her again, but then the woman was banished from the realm for ten whole years.
A lot could happen in ten years and knowing Dalrae, she would probably have gone insane in that period. If she had been away from Rani for just two months and she was on a roll with her insanity, what of ten years?
"Anyway, as you have wished, Incayon will host the festival. But I must warn you, rough highness. If I hear someone make speeches about Rani,... I will kill them. That is a promise. Tell your wolves to keep my sister’s name off their mouth and their speeches.
"And the same goes for your parents too. We both know I don’t give a damn whether they were the kings and queens of everyone. Just tell everyone to stay in their lanes, get mated and leave Incayon peacefully," Dalrae added and Jungwoo felt chills down his spine.
He had always known that Dalrae and Rania were dangerous, but damn, the tone that she had used made him make a mental note to not cross the sisters again. Besides, who knew what Dalrae would do, especially now that Rania wasn’t around to keep her in check too?
"Dalrae—"
"No. Leave. You already gave your message. You can tell your daddy dearest that Incayon accepts his offer with the greatest of excitements. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a pack to run and a team of sorts before prepping for the festival.
"You can find your way out. And I pray you get a mate too, maybe that will teach you to value bonds," Dalrae said as she got up and went to her seat.
She wasn’t sure whether she was thrilled that the festival was being held in Incayon, and that too in a month, which meant that she would have more time to find Rania, unlike if the other people hosted the ball.
Then again, she hated the idea of the other alphas coming to her home like this was just a walk in a ceremonial field they had to show up in.
Dalrae hated a lot of things but then she also knew that there wasn’t much she could do about the crown’s sudden interest in holding the festival here. The best she could do was to accept her reality and start planning on how she would make things possible for her people.
"Be well, sister," Jungwoo whispered sadly as he walked out of the alpha’s office. He wasn’t sure what he had been expecting, but one thing he was sure of was that Dalrae was right to have kicked him out.
He had messed up and instead of pestering Rania earlier like he would have done, he had allowed himself to be riled up by an alpha who had other motives.
Sure, Rania wasn’t dead and Incayon had eventually lost the greatest alpha of all time, but in all that, Jungwoo had lost both his best friends, the women who would have gone to war for him.
Hell, Rani literally took on one of the most dangerous missions for him, and even then, he had repaid her kindness, love, and courage with nothing but distrust.
Jungwoo felt like a piece of shit, as he walked towards the Inctyon gates. He hadn’t come with his horse this time, because he felt like he wanted to face his truth but then his truth was so painful, so he opted to seek a horse from the stables of Incayon.
He knew they had an obligation to the crown, and had to give him a horse, and for some reason even that made him feel more like a dick. But what else could he do? Rania had demanded the lunar trial and she had got it.
Jungwoo had lost and he would keep losing, that was something that haunted him for a long time now. Then again, was he supposed to sit back and watch as the world turned upside down on his friendships? Or would he fight for them?
But if he did, would Lim Dalrae let him? And would Rania bear with him and forgive him? There was so much at stake and Jungwoo could only wish that things were not as cruel for Rani out there.
"I miss you so damn much, Rani," Dalrae cried out in silence as she looked at the door that linked her office with Rani’s. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Sure, she had insisted on staying in her office and had only ever gone to Rani’s office once, since the ruling, but as she sat there, Dalrae couldn’t help but feel like she should have fought harder for Rani.
She should have defended the woman who had always defended her.
She should have worked harder and smarter and should have proven to Rani that she was a good sister. However, in the midst of all that, Dalrae had done nothing other than worry, which was something that wasn’t going to help her and her sister.
She had to make the choice and fast.
"I have to host the festival, Rani. But I’m scared, y’know? How am I supposed to do this without you? How am I supposed to get this done without you by my side? What kind of life is this, Rani?" Dalrae whined as she stared at the door.
She wished she could just walk in there, but then she knew there was an emptiness there. She knew that when the door would open, she wouldn’t be met with smiling Rani, a happy bubbly woman who always smiled around her.
She wouldn’t be met with a chaotic woman who was always looking to go on an errand for the warriors despite the fact that she was the alpha. She couldn’t be met by a woman who lit up her world more than anyone ever did.
Dalrae knew she wouldn’t be seeing Rani or even hearing her voice and so she returned to staring at the door, because at least then, she wouldn’t be met with an empty room.
Many a time, she had resorted to thinking that she and Rani were fighting, and that’s why the door had remained closed. But then Dalrae’s conscience wouldn’t let her think peacefully.
Instead, it reminded Dalrae of the unspoken rule between the sisters. The rule that demanded that no matter what happened between them, the door was meant to stay open, or ajar, depending on the mood.
The lock was never to be turned, and yet for the first time in so many years that door was locked and there was no Rania.
Dalrae was frustrated and felt like her world was coming down on her, so she figured she could take a rest.
Besides it’s not like the world would go to shit if she took a nap, right?
Well, if only.
