Chapter 109: When The Universe Is Done Waiting

[JIHOON]

Staring at a hurting Jihoon, Han Seong had so many assumptions, but one stood out more than anything. The mate bond was taking effect and it wasn’t going to be in the most pleasant of ways.

Someone was going to be hurting or rather both the mates would be hurting, which raised even more questions.

Looking at his friend, Han Seong wondered how dumb Jihoon had to be not to open his eyes and see what was right in front of him. It was almost like the man wasn’t even aware that his saving grace had always been within his reach, always.

"What happened with Kim Rania?" Han Seong asked and Jihoon looked at his old friend curiously.

He was hoping that Han Seong was bluffing but the sight that met him was different. It was like the warlock wanted to know what it was that had happened, as if he didn’t already know.

Maybe he needed to try and see or even hear it from a different perspective, and more than anything, he wanted to know if the alpha still had the same thoughts about Kim Rania, given her absence.

Now that Riania was away, there was a lot that would happen and if Jihoon didn’t brace himself for the worst, then he would always curse the woman who had done nothing to him other than hate him with all she had.

"You think she did something to me?" Jihoon asked and Han Seong resisted the urge to facepalm. Of course, he had expected this too. Even on his probable sick bed, Jihoon was still thinking of the woman even if it was on a different scale.

But at least he was thinking about her, right? That had to count for something.

"Would she have done something to you?" Han Seong asked curiously as he walked over and touched his friend’s forehead.

Jihoon was burning up and it wasn’t going to come down anytime soon. This was a familiar fever, a fever associated with withdrawal. It was the kind of fever that many heated but the fever that meant more than met the eyes.

If Jihoon did survive this fever, then it would also go to show that someone on the other side of the realm was doing a good job handling herself.

Maybe it was Yanna, right? But then the woman had long been dead, then again, was that all there was to Yanna? For a woman who had caused chaos in the kingdom, she sure was a sore subject for many.

"I wouldn’t put it past her, given the kind of relationship we have," Jihoon said as he let out a string of coughs. He was tired and needed to rest.

Han Seong could see how much the sickness was impacting the people around the alpha even though none of them was willing to say it. They were all so confused because their alpha had been fine for years now.

It didn’t make sense that his symptoms were related to the symptoms every mate felt when their mate was hurting or in danger. Yanna Park was dead, so the alpha shouldn’t have been feeling the pain, but then what was happening that even they had no understanding of?

"You both are too stubborn for your own good," Han Seong mumbled in silence as he began treating the alpha who had clearly heard him. Jihoon wasn’t sure what that even meant and he was curious, but maybe he was talking about someone else, right?

"What?" Jihoon asked as if he was trying to confirm what he had heard his old friend say and sure enough it was the opposite.

"Get some rest, I will treat you. Though your fever will only go down in a week’s time. That should be enough time for you to regain your strength. Your pack needs you, Jihoon, so you had better take care of yourself well.

"Especially with a raging Rania banished and probably with a harsher desire to kill you right now," Han Seong scolded and John just smiled. He had just been told that someone wanted him dead and he was smiling like it was nothing.

Was this what people who saw the face of their enemies looked like?

"That is obvious. She wants to kill me for her banishment and I got my justice for my mate. If she comes to attack me, I will just have to fight her, and let the best psycho alpha win," Jihoon said excitedly like a kid who had been given candy and Han Seong internally facepalmed.

It had just been two months since Rania left, and somehow he was certain that by the time the ten years were over for Rania’s banishment from the realm, the alpha before him would be nits or even worse. How the hell did the goddess even stir up such a chaotic fate anyway?

"Yeah, I can see that. Anyway, you need to get better soon , for your people," Han Seong said to Jihoon even though a part of him knew that this was something that had to happen in two ways.

If one was sick, then the other was definitely experiencing worse, And given the symptoms of Jihoon it was clear that the one on the other side ws in a lot of pain, which made Han Seong wonder what was happening over there.

This shit wasn’t supposed to be hard, but the universe had to gamble with the worst of the worst and put them in one pot, not to mention the hefty mixing that probably made them look like two misfits in a society that only ever wanted peace.

There would be peace, but only if the knuckleheads wanted peace among them, otherwise it would just be another useless declaration in the name of love and fated mates.

"I will. I know myself. This is just a normal fever, it will go away in a few days," Jihoon said confidently to Han Seong, before he suddenly felt a stab in his heart, jolting him back to the reality that maybe it was never about the fever anymore. There was more to it, but who was going to tell him that?

"Shit, what the fuck was that?" Jihoon asked and Han Seong looked at him worriedly. He had no clue what was happening to the alpha before him and he wouldn’t treat what he didn’t know about. It would easily be a misdiagnosis.

"What was what? What are you feeling, Jihoon? Where does it hurt other than your fever?" Han Seong asked and Jihoon looked at him before he pointed to his heart, the constricting pain making him feel like he was about to collapse.

He didn’t want this, he didn’t like this, hell none of them liked this, but there could only ever be one explanation for this, and Han Seong hoped for the first time that he was wrong.

Of course, he had known that there would come a day when this happened given the bond consummation was wy overdue, but he had hoped that they had more time. So much was happening and it seemed like the fates were taking the matters into their own hands.

They were binding the impossible even without them knowing who was who to the other and that was a dangerous game, especially if they eventually found out who they were to each other.

"I can’t breathe," Jihoon said before he fell unconscious, giving into the darkness that had been calling on him for days now.
