Chapter 153: Chapter 153 - Pixie Fight

Even as his hand rested on Lena’s head, the site was far from clear.

A dozen pixies were rushing at them from every direction. They spread out as they came, angling themselves to cut off retreat, their faces ranging from savage to a wild smile reminiscent of Lena.

Lumi moved his hand away and gently pushed Lena to the side.

"Void Sphere."

The dark purple orb materialized in front of him, radiating its consuming darkness outward. Lumi had already noticed it was an extremely powerful skill for its rank, far surpassing most Second Rank skills.

However, there was one key issue.

It was a channeled skill. It required his active concentration for as long as it was maintained. Not just attention, but full mental allocation. The moment he split focus to cast anything else, the sphere would collapse.

That meant no teleport.

For a magician, that was not a small thing to give up. Teleport was the primary method of movement in any real fight. Magicians dodged with teleport. They repositioned with teleport. Many never bothered to physically move at all, stringing together teleport after teleport across a battlefield. It was simply what magicians did.

Lumi did not have that option right now.

He directed the Void Sphere toward one of the approaching pixies. The pixie tracked it, its eyes calculating the trajectory and speed. It was fast, but the pixie had already done the math. The moment it reached a certain distance, it would teleport out of the path.

The two waited for the right moment...

Lumi suddenly accelerated the sphere at the last quarter second.

The sudden change in speed had thrown the pixie off. It was a simple tactic, but beyond what it expected. It hadn’t finished its teleport.

"Ngahhhhh!" The Void Sphere hit it dead center, and the pixie screamed out in agony as it was consumed by the destructive energy.

[EXP +231]

Lumi gave a small smile while teleporting.

A cluster of spells from the remaining pixies hit the space he had been standing in.

The spells hit empty air. "Void Sphere..." Lumi began to cast another, given that his old one was gone.

As for Lena, she was already entirely healed. Her face showed clear enthusiasm at the prospect of killing some more.

She raised her wand. "BLESSING!"

[Blessing - 15:00]

An aura appeared over herself and Lumi, buffing them for the next fifteen minutes.

Then she spread her arms out wide, tilted her head, and looked directly at the cluster of pixies with an expression of open invitation.

Several of them redirected their magic at her, barraging her with spells from multiple angles.

Lena teleported.

The pixies weren’t stupid. They had already calculated every reasonable teleport angle and launched a spell to attack each one. Behind her, to either side, above, below. Every direction she might move to was already accounted for.

Except one. Directly in front of their faces.

She was already grinning as she materialized in the center of their cluster, wand raised. "Holy Arrows."

Shafts of holy light punched through one of the pixies before it could react, piercing clean through.

[EXP +198]

The other pixies around her recalculated instantly. She had just teleported into their middle and attacked. That was, objectively, also throwing herself into a very bad position. A human in close range against pixies was not a human in a good position. Pixies were also capable of close quarters combat.

One of them proved it immediately, driving a clawed hand directly into Lena’s chest through her heart.

"Hah~!" One of the pixies giggled.

"Silly human~" They seemed incredibly satisfied, even a bit mocking, despite the fact that two of them had already died.

Though that was how pixies operated. They didn’t really care about each other. If a few died, so what?

Lena looked down at the claw in her chest, then looked up at the pixie that put it there.

She smiled, and spoke as her wand glowed. "Heal."

With just a single spell, she was at max health again. That was the terror of a priest.

There were caveats and limitations, of course. But a recent injury from a low level pixie driving a claw through her chest was well within the range of what she could simply undo.

The pixie stared at her.

Lena’s smile went wider.

Near her, Lumi kept the Void Sphere moving.

He drove it forward at one pixie, watched it teleport to the left, and immediately curved the sphere to follow. The pixie hadn’t expected a correction that fast. It barely escaped by teleporting again, this time upward, landing on a branch overhead.

Lumi didn’t chase it. He redirected the sphere toward a different target entirely.

Three pixies had spread out in a loose triangle, pelting him with rapid bursts of red flames. The shots were small individually, but they came in sequences timed to cover each other’s gaps, forcing him to either take one to avoid another or find a third option.

He stepped left as two shots crossed the space his torso had occupied. The third caught his shoulder.

[HP -44]

The Void Sphere closed on the rightmost pixie of the triangle. The pixie waited, tracking it. It had already seen the trick with the timing Lumi had done with the other pixie, and it had been prepared. Lumi held the sphere’s speed constant, letting the pixie believe he was pulling the same trick. The pixie let it get close, ready to dodge.

Then Lumi swept the sphere sideways instead of forward, cutting across the triangle rather than driving through it. The rightmost pixie teleported away as expected.

The middle pixie, which had not been the obvious target, took the sphere directly. "Grahhhh!"

[EXP +205]

The remaining two scattered.

A burst of red flame shot at Lumi from above, where a pixie had repositioned. He tilted back, letting it pass close enough that he felt the heat of it across his face. Another shot followed immediately after. He suddenly dropped to the floor, letting the fire which shifted into a curve mid-air slice through the air above him safely.

"Gwa-" Another pixie who had not been part of the trio found the void sphere unexpectedly slammed into it, destroying it.
