Master Of None-Chapter 2822. Disappearing Oddities
"Hey little guy, you and that egg are the only two left in there who can live here." The soft voice was almost deceptive for Gil. He was clearly trying to make sure the sincerity and tenderness in his voice matched his intent to help.
He had ended up finding a naturally formed wind elemental rune and not what Onyx, Su, or Walker had gone after. He felt a little awkward but the necklace that had been part of the set holding that haven within using some sort of space mana had just broken and left the egg and fairy dragon in the tree with him.
He also felt sort of strange knowing that a wind rune had formed naturally in the branches of some larger crees that intertwined for whatever reason. The wind was considerate this high up, but it didn’t feel like a safe place for an egg or just reawakened fairy dragon. It felt like the worst place to have anyone that might be unsteady on their feet to be honest.
"He’s an interesting little one. The wind spirits really like him. They really want to form bonds with him but he is holding them off because he doesn’t feel like it’s safe enough yet." The sudden appearance of Zephyr next to him helped Gil grasp the situation a little better. He had thought she would be resting in the spirit mark longer since she had told him she was tired after working on something with Ventus to help the wind dragons a while ago.
"I promise you are more than safe. If you were to fall I would catch you before you could make a sound." Gil held out his hands showing his empty palms. He also noticed some ivy that had also somehow left the space of the bracelet before it broke down. He saw that some of it was curled around his leg with a clump of roots while the other bits seemed to have already begun absorbing mana and rooting in to the trees.
The herbs that he had been told about from some of Walker’s all around appraisal all were focused on the growth of the fairy dragon so this must be an herb that absorbed wind mana to better grow. The ivy seemed to catch the fairy dragon’s attention allowing for it to show it might be just a bit hungry.
Its lighter green scales were similar to some other wind affinity lizards or snakes, but the way they reflected light seemed to make it stand out more than what Gil would have expected. Then again, he also felt that the fairy dragons were a species of monster that would be hard to fight. Something about the way that wind mana wrapped around the egg and the fairy dragon being sent right from the naturally formed wind rune proved his gut instinct had to be true.
"I think you should try feeding it. Then it might be able to relax and absorb the wind rune there." Gil listened to Zephyr. With her connection to wind mana, wind elemental spirits, and also the very fact she was a member of the spirit race beyond just a simple spirit or anything made him trust her opinion. Plus, their bond was deeper than most bonds any one person could have.
Plucking a leaf from the vine, Gil saw the fair dragon open its mouth to show some small pointed teeth. It snapped up the elaf quickly and also seemed to take in a breath of potent wind mana. In another movement, it flapped small nearly translucent green wings, bringing the mana all around it closer.
These actions brought some light to its eyes causing the egg to also absorb more mana. It appeared that the awakening of this fairy dragon was speeding up the hatching of the other wind affinity fairy dragon. Both were absorbing mana and connecting themselves to the natural flow of wind mana.
It was even more drastic seeing that he could feel he wouldn’t be able to easily use wind mana for himself here. It was like he lacked the permission to do so or more like he was locked from using the mana in the same way that Walker could halt the mana around him. But he also understood if he interfered with the wind mana in any way he might harm the process that was taking place.
The wind elemental rune formed here in between the trees bringing breezes and denser wind mana toward them flickered. The hard to grasp runes and shapes became even harder to comprehend with his senses and eyes. Gil even felt that he was losing grip on what he knew about wind mana for the moment.
When the rune flared with more wind mana, Gil had to avert his eyes. When he looked back up he felt like there was something missing. Not just the egg and the fairy dragon, but the wind was stopped and the naturally formed wind elemental rune wasn’t all around either. Instead, there were various wind affinity herbs growing around and the shell pieces formed the hatched egg.
’Title earned.’
’Title: Friend of the fairy dragons
This title is earned through the achievement of assisting the fairy dragon race with its rebirth and growth. Any who have this title are considered an ally and may be called on for future assistance. The ones that hold this title may also have an easier time learning the language of natural mana flow to commune with the fairy dragons. They are not a species that governs through intelligence but instead they are a race that lived by the flow of nature. They are a mystery within themselves and can not be seen as the same as other beings, species, or races.’
The title he earned left Gil even more confused. It sounded like he could ask a fairy dragon for help and also learn to speak with them. But at the same time it felt like he had been told that the fairy dragons were and also were not a species or race that could be the same as what he knew monsters or an intelligent race to be.
It was confusing to say the least, yet it also left him and Zephyr wondering what they should do now. The two fairy dragons had clearly awakened and hatched then left. But they had left behind herbs growing in abundance with greater and purer wind mana within. So, why not harvest some before leaving?
Alice, Su, Midnight, and Remey all found themselves experiencing similar events. They too found that they were witnessing some fairy dragons hatch or awaken. They watched elemental runes that formed naturally here become absorbed or taken away. While they now understood that the naturally formed elemental runes were more common on this continent, they somewhat expected that.
The mana was denser here and there had been a lot of nature clashing, meaning dense manas in collision that led to areas dense enough in certain manas to form a rune like that. It wasn’t unexpected, but something they made a mental note about.
However, the presence of the fairy dragons was a mystery now to them. They disappeared leaving the title and their gift of affinity herbs behind. It also seems that all the items associated with the space protecting them had degraded instantly upon the fairy dragons being released. Not to mention the herbs that they could eat being let back in to the world with them.
All of this was a larger step to accomplish the return of the fairy dragons, but it was a lot of mystery left behind. The unanswered questions about how intelligent the fairy dragons were as a race and what their true roles were within the world felt hard to answer or glean information to pass to others about.
It was somewhat harsh on their minds since they didn’t often find a situation like this. But every single one of them knew that Walker might have more information for them. He interacted differently with everyone and everything. Meaning his answers might shine light on what had happened to them.
"Why is there a naturally formed rune here? Shouldn’t it be somewhere better?" Walker had moved incredibly quickly due to his manipulation of wind mana. He had made it to the larger sprout of ice and the body of the ancient wyrm. But he didn’t worry about the odd feelings of mana being transferred, degraded, and changed. Instead, he focused on the almost perfectly carved out bowl of ice leaving an open chilling fog of ice due to the dense water mana.
He could feel a higher potency of magic but he also knew if he took another step, he would have to do some fighting.
Surrounding the naturally formed rune were silver and blue furred wolves. Not small ones, large and clearly vicious.
