Master Of None-Chapter 2587. Mapping Bridges
Chapter 2587: 2587. Mapping Bridges
"Earth flipping flower... good for replanting efforts...."
"Alma, you have been murmuring about the earth flipping flower for the last two hours. Yes we can use it to try and revitalize some of the desert soil around the ruined areas. We might even be able to help create small oasis within the desert to help travelers."
It wasn’t odd that Alma would find the earth flipping flower and the abilities it had to mix and churn soil important. However, she was very much focused on the fact that it could be used to help mix the soil and cause refertilization. There were many areas along the desert that they all knew shouldn’t be a desert.
This was something that a few of the Genesis nature based citizens wanted to work on, a decent few were elves. While the issues that caused the expansion of the desert had been solved, the recovery would still take time. With the expansion of the world, it was potentially easier to work and improve those areas.
This would mean that there would be entirely new strips of farm land or naturally growing lands full of monsters and rare wild herbs. It didn’t sound bad whatsoever, but hyper focusing on it because of one flower was a little much. Not that this stopped Alma who was focused on it since she would be able to bring some of the roots of the earth flipping flower with her to try and make the process happen faster.
"It’s just important to think it out. You left the main flower with the forest elves instead of studying it since they can study it elsewhere. You took the seed roots though, you can grow at least seven more flowers if the right amounts of earth mana is gathered for them."
"And I agree, but we need to research them more before we plant them everywhere. With the stagnant mana around it might be a few more years needed of balanced manas to make them bloom safely without causing any area dangers." This good point made Alma nod before she gasped slightly.
She had been moving quickly through the air with Walker being the in carrying them using wind mana. The others who had been with them had separated off to follow some other tasks. It was clear that Walker was more than capable of any guarding, plus, Alma’s guards always knew she was more than strong enough to handle most issues alone. Her guards were mostly for comfort and show.
The gasp came because she hadn’t realized Walker had taken her as far as he did. The bridge they were at was not necessarily the closest but one that Walker was familiar with. He and Mordant had come and explored it even finding a monster here but now it had a small group of ruin researchers and guards.
They had been working to understand the carvings and relationship with other nearby ruins. At least three races had ruins within an easily traveled distance here so there were many theories that this direct area had been very good for building or for other methods of farming. Some even had a theory that ancient races cooperated more than what was known if they were in smaller encampments like this.
Then again, some of these ruins had already been proven to be places that races settled and stayed at after finding them already partially destroyed. Having a new group live in an abandoned area was not unnatural. It was just wise for safety.
In front of where Walker set both of them on the ground, they saw larger statues uncovered. Statues showing even larger monsters were completely in the open, a little rough from the weather and many years, but shockingly well built.
A few behemoths were carved which Walker had seen before, but he was interested to note something that seemed like a rock golem mixed with a slime. Then enough, which seemed to be a very large flying monkey. Monsters he knew didn’t exist, at least at that size nowadays.
"We didn’t expect visitors!" A hunched back old woman rushed up, dust cascaded off of her clothing like she was the very source of it.
"I am here to leave this mapping orb, it will map the area and notify Genesis if there is a change in mana coming from the bridge to the elemental planes here. It’s currently connected to the wind elemental plane too." He easily sensed the manas and saw that the guards sent here to guard the bridge in case of any situations occurring were stationed safely.
The excavation and researchers were working around and with the guards so things appeared very calm. This was a good sign overall for other ruins and more learning about the past.
"Oh! That sounds wonderful. Would you like to place it where we have already cleared? We aren’t digging in a few places because we uncovered the area." She seemed more than welcoming to his ideas of where this mapping orb could be placed. He could even swear he heard her thoughts about somehow having the information to refer to where they could excavate more ruins if the magic tool she was being shown was good enough.
"I will meet with the guard captain and teach him how to keep the mapping or activated. It should help you all see if there are monsters around too. Once we have a sensory mage here too it will help get even better information." Walker left the researcher with those thoughts and moved ahead to the area already cleared and left as it was.
It was clear he could make a small earthen pillar and hold the mapping orb there. He could feel the manas around moving in and out of the orb. The area was already being well mapped without issues. The larger statues would certainly be mapped giving some insight in to the ruins as a whole.
With a small bit of curiosity, Walker focused his mana senses and looked in to the ruins using the mapping orb. He got some vague feelings of caves below but could tell they weren’t part of the ruins. It was a curious thought to see if he could find deeper ruins but just knowing he could sense some caverns was more than enough. It could help map more dangerous cave systems so that the dwarves didn’t suffer in dangerous conditions.
Lately some caverns with dangerous or unbreathable air had been found. This had slowed a lot of mining groups since they were unsure how to proceed since many caverns did not have easily flowing air. The wind mages couldn’t push the toxic air without causing issues elsewhere so the mining became slow.
It was even worse in areas where the end of an ore vein went through these areas. The potentially explosive gas could cause massive collapses and even small earthquakes. Risks not worth taking without a lot more magic or skilled manpower. Things that couldn’t be undertaken easily.
But having a map using a mapping orb could be the perfect method to handle these things. It was worth putting in to action later.
Regardless he refocused and started to show the guard captain how to use his mana to activate the mapping orb if it stopped and how it could use the ambient mana to fuel itself. He also showed how he could communicate with those working in the grand mapping hall. It would allow for any monsters in the area to be spotted since this was an important location with a bridge to the elemental planes.
He noticed that the quest had been completed but Walker didn’t want to look now. He wanted to be back within Genesis before he moved bridge to bridge leaving communication information and mapping orbs. He had to ensure that everything was done as well as it could before he pushed ahead with another task.
Besides this, he noticed that Alma was exploring and taking note of the changes in nearby plants. With how she could learn and grow many, she could tell what was being affected by the wind mana coming from the bridge to the elemental planes.
Having just a moment here looking at the ruins and how larger they actually were also gave Walker a new perspective of how hard the ancient times were. They had been halted through the actions of many people doing what they shouldn’t causing harm to nature and the world. Now, times were returning to a proper path and soon he would see even more amazing things.
He was sure he would be able to manage something else unique with the next link on the chain quest. It would be very interesting to debate what the next link in the chain quest was. Where it might take him.
