Married To The Mad Vampire Lord-Chapter 192: How did you do it?
Chapter 192: How did you do it?
When Rohan carried her to the dining room of the manor, where she had never once sat since they moved here, Belle was stunned speechless at the line of covered lids on the long table. Though the table was not as big and long as the one in the castle, it was long enough, and it had ten chairs around it. Every side of the table held a dish and silverware.
She hadn’t seen this much food in a while, and when Rohan carried her to the head of the table and carefully put her down on the chair on the right side, he looked at the servants to open the lids of the dishes while Belle could do nothing but watch and see what he was up to.
It seemed he had woken up long before her and given orders for the things to be prepared. She got another surprise when the lids were lifted and the bowls all contained most, if not every, one of her favorite meals.
Rohan sat beside her on the chair at the head of the table and looked at his wife, whose eyes had gone round.
"I hope they’re all to your liking?" he inquired, a teasing glint in his dark eyes as he watched her, knowing everything on the table was what she liked eating in the castle whenever they had their meals together.
"They all are," she muttered, her mouth already watering at the sight of a juicy ham that steamed and wafted its delicious, warm aroma to her nose. She inhaled it like an elixir.
To be honest, she had not realized she was this hungry, or that it had been months since she had sat before this much food. But the more she looked at the food, the more she swallowed.
In the past days, her meals had become a burden to her, the thought of eating causing a lump to rise in her throat because it felt somewhat unfair that she ate while the man she cared about was in a non-improving state of health. Sometimes, she barely took one bite before she felt full and consumed with worry and anxiety at the negative thoughts: what if Rohan never wakes up, and what if he remained like that for years?
This afternoon, when she walked into the piano room and found him sitting before the piano, it had felt like an invisible weight had been lifted off her head and heart. She had felt so light and alive, she began to realize how much she had neglected many things around her, especially herself.
Now, looking at this mouthwatering food, her stomach rumbled, making her realize how hungry she was and how utterly weak she felt in her body.
Without as much as a word, Rohan had read her hungry expression and reached for a plate. He placed a ham on it, brought it to his front, and with a swift movement, began to cut the ham on the plate. He picked it up with his fork and carried it toward her mouth, where she was still staring at the table filled with food, as if not knowing which to eat first.
Belle looked at the fork poised before her mouth as Rohan said, "Open up," with a smile playing on his handsome face. It was like getting his heart back had lit something in his dark eyes she couldn’t put a finger on. His eyes looked less dead and more alive than she had ever seen, and his smile, warm and tender, made her heart tremble over.
She opened her mouth while still looking at him, and he put the ham into her mouth. When she chewed it, her eyes almost closed in delight. It was so delicious she couldn’t hold back a soft moan and looked at him eagerly to feed her more as he began to pick up another slice.
Rohan watched his wife chew, and how she looked like an adorable puppy eager to be fed more. Her large hazel eyes swayed to the plate of ham whenever he went to slice another bite for her. She looked so delicate and so in love with the food, he felt like had the ham been a living person, he would have strangled it from all the attention his wife gave it.
But then, it was understandable to him because from what he’d been told by Rav, she barely took anything all days. free𝑤ebnovel.com
They had come to Bimmerville from circumstances, but Rohan intended to make their time here worthwhile. As much as he knew they could not escape Nightbrook and the king forever, he wanted to make sure he wouldn’t bring up the topic with her until she had regained and recovered from all the ordeal she’d had to face without him, or more accurately because of him.
The fact that she knew about his past and still chose him said a lot about the woman he had chosen as his life mate and partner. She had been told he was half demon, a creature the humans shunned and despised more than they did vampires, as they were believed to be associated with evil, but his wife had accepted it.
Though not many knew of his lineage—not even the king had known that he had not sired him—Rohan had been told by his mother the night she came to curse him, after he had killed her father who had attempted to kill him and he had defended himself by ripping off the man’s head and pushing him off the balcony.
She had told him that his father was in hell, and how she had come to sire him, and why she hated him. Rav had gotten to know about this because of their mind link that gave him access to some of Rohan’s thoughts, and Rohan had transmitted that information to him as a test to see if the man was loyal enough to keep his secret or would go spreading it.
Rav had kept his secret and pretended he did not know about them. He had never told a soul, and if the circumstances had not arisen, Rohan believed the man would never have even told Belle. But for some reason, he was glad she was told and that she knew who he truly was, because now he knew no secret of his could tear her from him.
She knew the worst, and still, she seemed to welcome him. With that thought, Rohan felt his newly returned heart swell with a kind of warmth that spread through his body, leaving him feeling strange and unsteady. Along with it, his heart began to beat faster when she raised her head to him and flashed him a smile as she chewed and pointed to a dish she wanted him to feed her next.
The feeling in his chest was so unfamiliar that he felt the heat rise to his neck. He had to fight the urge to rub his hand over his heart at the wild beating inside him. Instead of getting lost in the sensation of having a heart again, and having it beat faster for the woman before him, he focused on her. He fed her every dish she pointed at, patiently and gently.
And when she brought a spoonful of soup to his lips, he leaned forward and ate from her hand.
When he took the spoonful into his mouth, Belle reached forward and used her thumb to gently wipe the corner of his lips.
Before she could pull her hand back, he caught her wrist and brought it toward his mouth. His eyes never left hers as he drew her thumb past his lips and slowly licked the tip, the very spot she had just used to wipe him.
She flushed at the sensation of his warm tongue, her breath hitching softly, and he took quiet delight in the way heat spread across her cheeks.
Before letting go of her hand, he pressed a kiss to her knuckles. Then, still holding her hand in his, he looked at her and asked in a quiet, questioning voice, "How did you do it?"
Belle arched her brows slightly as she chewed the last piece of dessert her stomach could take after everything he had fed her. She had never felt this full, of food, of warmth, of him.
"Do what?" she asked, not knowing what he meant.
"My heart. How did you get it back?" He looked at her face, still not meeting her eyes, not because he didn’t want to, but because it had become a habit he couldn’t break. He didn’t meet people’s eyes. He only looked into them when he wanted to compel or instill fear, and even though he couldn’t compel his wife, a part of him had grown so used to it, he couldn’t stop.
"When I was given the seed of my heart," Rohan continued to say, "I was told I only get to plant it once and that if I lose it, it’s gone forever. But you brought it back—how?"
Belle felt his gloved thumb caress the back of her hand he held in his as he waited for her to tell him what she had done.
