Chapter 39: Baseless

"Mr. Gabriel?" the housekeeper announced her presence to Gabriel Yul, who was sitting on a couch at his sitting room.

He didn’t turn to face her, his eyes situated at nothing particular.

"Mr. Yul, some policemen are here to see you," the housekeeper added and that was when he turned to face her.

"What?" he said.

"Yes sir, they are at the waiting room," she replied.

He stood up and reluctantly went to meet the officers who were truly waiting at the waiting room. They were three in number.

"What is this?" he inquired.

"Mr. Yul, I’m detective John Parker and these are my subordinates," John introduced as they showed him their IDs and batches.

"Mr. Yul, your presence is needed at the police station for questioning?" one of them continued.

"Questioning? About what? Is this an arrest? Do you have a warrant? I can sue you for this," Gabriel bloviated.

"It is an arrest and we do have a warrant. You are a potential suspect in the kidnapping case of Davian Randell. You have the right to remain silent as any thing you say or do will be used against you in the court of law.

"So follow us peacefully. You are entitled to a lawyer, if you can’t afford one the count will provide one for you." John elaborated.

"This way, please." they directed him away. They didn’t handcuffed him as he quietly followed them, with laser stares though.

... Earlier...

"How do you know this, Ms. Reyes?" John questioned Silvia, who just told him what she found out at the casino. Though, editing some details out and inputting some.

She told him that as the man, Henry Cavill was a veteran criminal. He must have visited some gambling dens. She visited a few and that was where she got the information from.

"You shouldn’t be making these steps by yourself. You need to involve us, you will be endangering yourself too. Even if we’re the police you can still share your ideas with us, it’s for your own good, Ms. Reyes." John cautioned, Silvia just nodded.

"What now?" she asked.

"We can’t be too drastic. Even if we arrest that man, he can still deny having anything to do with Henry Cavill. We’d need those witnesses for the case," John speculated.

"That won’t be a problem." Silvia assured. She will just make Luis Rodriguez offer some of his men as witnesses.

... Present...

Gabriel was at an interrogation room as John and his partner interrogated him.

"I’m really not saying anything till my lawyer gets here," Gabriel said.

"This isn’t so hard to answer, for you to wait for your lawyer. It’s a simple question, do you know this man in the picture?" John responded.

"And why do I need to answer that question?" Gabriel continued.

John scoffed.

"Keep an eye on him," he said and walked out of the room.

His eyes spotted Silvia, who just walked in.

"Have you arrested him?" she asked.

"Yes, but he’s proving tough to handle. He insists on talking only when his darn lawyer arrives," he explained.

Agitated, Silvia walked passed him into the room. "Ms. Reyes!" John tried to stop her. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

Gabriel grinned at the sight of Silvia. She approaches him even closer and punched him hard on the face. His lower lips split on the impact.

John held Silvia back.

"You scumbag! I know you did it, I know you are responsible. Where’s Davian?! Where are you keeping him?!" Silvia fumed at him.

"Silvia darling, I have no idea what you are talking about," Gabriel said. An obvious smug look on his face.

"Don’t call me darling!" she yelled.

"Mr. Yul, there are witnesses who can attest to the fact that this man in the picture, Henry Cavill, works for you.

"And according to Ms. Silvia here, you don’t have that much of a friendly relationship with Mr. Randell. You even threatened his life at your first which is also your last encounter with him." John stated.

"Fine. I won’t deny the fact that I did all that but I was furious, those were just empty threats and these are baseless accusations. Who wouldn’t be angry? That man took something that belonged to me, my fiancée," Gabriel finally started to speak up.

"I was never your fiancée, I was never yours!" Silvia responded.

"I didn’t kidnap, Davian," Gabriel continued.

"And what about the fact that there are witnesses who can testify that this man, Henry Cavill, who kidnapped Davian, is working for you!" Silvia pointed out.

"Used to work for me," Gabriel corrected.

"That man no longer works for me," he added. Silvia snarled at him.

"You are such a talented stark liar. You lying scum," she uttered.

"Mr. Yul, do you have any idea that the man you claim to have worked for you is a criminal?" John questioned.

"Yes, that was after I had already hired him for the job of a bodyguard. I fired him immediately I found out he was an ex con and the piles of crimes he had committed," Gabriel continued.

’This man was so good at lying!’ Silvia thought.

"All these are baseless accusations. I won’t say anymore till my lawyer arrives," he smirks at Silvia. They both knew he would get away with this.

Angry, she walked out of the interrogating room.

Leonard Yul had just arrived at the airport. He was now heading home in his car with his secretary and PA, Zane.

A phone rang in the car.

"That’s mine," Zane announced as he picks up the call.

"Hello," he said.

"Oh...yes... okay... I-I’ll tell him," Zane hanged up and turned to face Leo.

"What?" Leo asked.

"That was from the family’s attorney. He said Gabriel was arrested for a kidnapping case, he decided to inform you since you are in the country." Zane answered.

Lines formed at Leo’s forehead. He just arrived in the country and he was hoping to get some rest instead he was welcomed by news of the screw up of that piece of sh*t of a brother.

"Is the attorney already there?" Leo asked.

"Yes. District 19." Zane replied.

"Drive to the station," Leo said to his driver.

"Yes, sir." the driver responded and changed directions, heading for the district 19 police station.

They got there. Zane and Leo alighted from the car and walked into the station. They sighted the attorney immediately.

"Mr. Leonard," the attorney acknowledged. He was a man who was average tall and over fifty.

"Attorney," Leo replied.

"How is it?" Leo added, inquiring about the case.

"Not too bad, they didn’t have any solid evidence against him. After some paperwork, your brother is free to go," the attorney replied.

"Good. So where’s Gabriel?" Leo asked.

"In the interrogating room, but since the interrogation is over. You can see him there, it’s right after the first turn to the left," the attorney said.

"Wait here," Leo said to Zane and walked out before he could object.

Leonard walked towards the interrogating room. His eyes met that of Silvia Reyes’ as she walked opposite him.

’What was she doing here?’ Leo thought.

Silvia didn’t spare him another glance and just walked passed him. She guessed he was here for his brother but when did he arrive.

The Yul men were almost all the same. Liars, playboys and could do anything to get what they want. She hasn’t forgotten what had transpired between him and Olivia. But she had bigger fish to fry.

What is she going to do now? That man truly denied everything and she found out they were letting him go. She was sure he was responsible.

But she was even more worried about Davian. If Gabriel Yul is truly guilty, then Davian was far from safe.

Gabriel’s head snapped towards the door as it opened. He was standing as he waited for the police to finally let him go.

He was a little surprised to see Leonard.

"Leo? When did you arrive in the country?" he asked.

"Is the kidnapping case related to Silvia Reyes?" Leonard ignored his question.

"Kinda. She is accusing me of kidnapping her fiancée. But you don’t have to worry, they don’t have concrete prov-"

Leo punched the words out of his mouth. Gabriel held his jaw with his fingers, his eyes glared daggers at Leo. He pushed Leo at the wall as he grabbed his collars.

"What was that for, you little punk?!" he yelled.

"You are just good for nothing, all you do is cause trouble, that’s all you know how to do and I always have to clean up your mess. I’m sick of it!" Leo responded and knocked his brother off.

"You didn’t clean up nothing, I already had this under control," Gabriel replied. Leo pointed his finger at him;

"I know you are responsible. You are obsessed over that woman, I warned you countless times but you still let your obsessions win," Leo continued.

"I really don’t care if you believe me or not. I didn’t kidnap her fiancée," Gabriel said.

"If you know what’s good for you, you better let that man go before this gets worse," Leo responded and walked out.

Gabriel glared as he walks out. This little punk acts so mighty, as if he’s the boss of him. If not for the fact that he was his brother, he would have gotten rid of him a long time ago and even become the CEO of Yul enterprises, that way.

Maybe Leo should be the one he should be taking care of.
