Chapter 34: An ambitious friend

Cyrus sighed heavily and shook his head in disbelief.

He expected her to escape, but he didn’t expect her to escape with his nine-tailed fox, who saw her as a threat to his life. Unless Snowflake changed his mind, there was a one hundred percent chance that he would kill Sage.

He closed his eyes and relaxed his back on his throne’s plush cushion, one leg on top of the other, his breathing slow and steady.

Of course he was furious! Which was why the cold temperature was increasing.

He wanted to put Sage to the test, and she failed it by being disobedient.

There were dark secrets all around her, secrets that had been building since she stepped into the world, and Cyrus was well aware of them.

He purposefully left the room to deal with some matters and was aware when she wanted to jump off the railing with his nine-tailed fox, testing her loyalty to her kingdom.

What was she thinking?! She didn’t have wings, she would have died.

The lord of Antica’s south side, Elisium, eventually arrived, and the guards Sage had seen in the castle were his escorts, who were all focused on their lord, giving Sage a great opportunity to flee the castle.

Cyrus had no intention of speaking with the lord about the subject he had come to discuss, at least not at that time.

His stupid parrot was in big trouble.

She made him feel so many emotions all at once, which was unusual for him because he had an unstoppable heart.

Or...?

Cyrus raised his hand slowly and placed it on his chest to feel his heartbeat.

It began to beat recently but stopped most of the time when he returned to his normal state after being in his dark state for a short time.

"Are you asleep?" He heard Ashton ask.

"What?" Cyrus asked through his teeth.

"Um.. hehe I am sure you are aware that your wife escaped and killed twenty three guards and injured Arthur badly." Ashton spoke as if trying to put some sense into Cyrus’ head.

"Yes, so?" Cyrus hummed and asked.

Ashton couldn’t believe the ice dragon.

"Esteban is heading to the mages Kingdom!" He was forced to raise his voice.

Cyrus’ eyes flew open shifting immediately into their silver reptile like form.

Ashton swallowed and took a step back preparing to run for his life if Cyrus attacked him.

"River reported that Esteban was going to attack next week." Cyrus spoke sternly.

Ashton eyes widened then his face turned serious. "Who delivered the message to you?"

"Who else?" Cyrus asked with a scoff and rolled his eyes.

A bright glow immediately surrounded him and when the light vanished, he was in his dark state glaring at Ashton coldly.

Ashton swallowed all the jokes that would escape his throat because Cyrus in his dark state would not dare to pull out his head like a plucked out flower.

"Arthur." Ashton mumbled.

"Impressive," Cyrus smiled, a smile that held something sinister.

Ashton bowed, turned away and walked out of the throne room.

Cyrus leaned back on his throne, closing his eyes once more to reflect with his dark mind.

His dark state was an armour created by his guardians, but many saw it as a curse. Cyrus was aware that his guardians had predicted that he would be in danger from the moment he was born, because they had also predicted that he would bring the eternal winter, which would trigger that danger. It was a gift to him because it revealed that he was the most powerful of his kind due to his strong bond with his guardians, particularly the nine-tailed fox.

Unfortunately, his dark state had an eternal frost-covered heart, ice that could never be melted, which was why he couldn’t feel anything, any warm emotions. Snowflake’s dark state was linked to his nine-tailed fox primarily because Snowflake had a deep, dark history.

Cyrus was used to betrayals; they were exposing themselves every day, and he was always getting rid of them.

Isabella had made a move, though it wasn’t on him, but on his parrot, and Arthur had misled him.

"Let go of me!" Arthur yelled then groaned in pain.

Cyrus opened his eyes to see Ashton yanking Arthur by his ripped shirt into the throne room.

Arthur was pushed to the ground by Ashton, allowing him to land on his chest.

As Arthur’s whipped back came to the surface, Cyrus’ lips formed a large smile that said "impressive." His parrot had done an excellent job.

"False information?" Cyrus asked casually.

"What?!" Arthur asked in shock.

Ashton stepped on his wounded back and he screamed loudly.

"I do not understand what is happening my king!" Arthur screamed out in pain.

"Why did you inform him about Esteban coming next week when he is really heading to Credia at the moment?" Ashton asked furiously.

"Pri..nce River told me when I went to drop off the water ma..ge." Arthur revealed and Cyrus’s smile increased.

Arthur was his messenger every information he reported was true and it seemed like he had gotten an information from the wrong person.

Ashton gave Cyrus a stunned look. "Do you think..?"

"He has his ambitions, but I will torture him for this." Cyrus interrupted and got on his feet.

It seemed his dear friend had strong ambitions of his own that was linked to him.

"Heal that and meet me there." He snarled at Arthur.

Ashton removed his feet from Arthur’s back and walked towards Cyrus who was walking down the few steps of stairs that led to his throne.

"I do not think it’s a good idea to head there in this state of yours." Ashton suggested worriedly.

Cyrus narrowed his eyes at him and smiled darkly placing his hand on Ashton’s shoulder.

"I need you to capture an old acquaintance for me."

Ashton looked curious. "But he.."

"Capture!" Cyrus growled and walked past Ashton who frowned deeply and glared at Arthur who was now seated on the ground groaning in pain as his back wound closed up.

Ashton then sighed deeply. "Alright."
