Chapter 236: His fate

The ice god fixed his gaze on her, a grave expression on his face. "Your fire core, Sage Dragos. Your life force."

Sage nodded, returning her gaze to the mansion. Rather than experiencing a twinge of surprise, she was simply fed up with everyone’s obsession with her fire core.

Her husband, the ice gods, the Statkus mages! They all meant to use it for destruction!

Breathing slowly, she ran her hand over Snowflake’s fur. "You will not get it."

Startled by her resolve, the ice god furrowed his brow. "Would you rather be sacrificed to those repulsive creatures or killed by your husband?"

"That shriek. It came from the Statkus portal." Sage mumbled, her fiery eyes fluttering even more fiercely. "Surely you had some role in that?"

"The purpose of that shriek was to summon you to the portal. However, I do not wish to give the Statkus mages any more power than they currently possess, so I have no intention of turning you over to them."

Sage grinned. "You bestowed some celestial powers upon the three main mages. That explains why they can’t die."

The ice god responded with a nod. "They remain nothing more than insects, just as you are."

"You would be fighting with me right now if you truly wanted to take my life force." Sage gave him a cold stare. "This is not just about the guardian beast being here, is it? If you really wanted my life force, you would not have brought me to Aurora’s mansion."

The ice god smiled. "You misunderstand me, fire mage. My desire to avoid causing my sister any harm is the only motivation. I do not have the intention, but our brothers do. And, if I try to harm you, your dear husband will come flying in."

Sage took a deep breath. "Cyrus killing me cannot be avoided."

The ice god nodded. "It can not." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

Sage feigned a smile. "But you will ultimately suffer a great loss. The fall of Antica."

"He would not do his mother any harm." He spoke right away, his voice hesitant. "She is the ice goddess; without her, Antica would not be standing as it is today."

Sage rejected the idea. "His demon state is...."

"Anghel sent me a message the moment Cyrus broke the seal, promising that he has given his life to protect the two of you." He frowned. "He claimed to love our sister the most. What a mess he made of her in the end! I do not plan to have a family moment."

"And yet, here you are. Standing in front of her mansion with the only thing that can bring your dreams to life. Me." Sage rolled her eyes.

"Alistair." The ice god met her harsh glare with a smile.

"You already know my name." Sage scowled and averted her gaze. At that point, she felt her heart ache. She winced, gasping as tears filled her eyes following intense worry that overcame her existence.

These were not her emotions.

"Return me to him." She let out a gasp and held Snowflake close.

Alistair just looked at her, a slow smile curling his lips as he nodded. "We have no control over his destiny because he is half a god. His fate lies in your hands, fire mage."

Just as he finished speaking, a powerful bolt of lightning shot out of the clouds and struck Sage, making him instantly disappear along with the nine-tailed fox.

Taking a deep breath, Alistair smiled and looked out at the mansion. "We will meet very soon, Aurora. A reunion is exactly what you need." With a dead serious expression on his face, his sword materialized in his hand and his grip tightened. "That abomination will vanish from existence in 48 hours, and you can return to us without any regret."

...

"If you feel her again, it means she is still alive. Stop panicking." Ashton said dully, his back against the wall.

Cyrus got out of bed and squinted at the demon. "She has been missing for three days without a trace."

"And we have been looking for answers for three days, but now you have one. You should feel relieved, not worried." Aston countered gently.

It has been difficult for the past three days. All of the warriors of Leimpia had been sent to find Sage, and they had been searching nonstop.

Cyrus, on the other hand, was nervous, but he stayed in his room since Aurora had instructed him not to join the search.

"I am relieved." Cyrus hissed as he approached the covered windows. "She has Snow with her." And he pulled the curtains open, allowing daylight to flood the space.

Ashton pouted, surprised. "How is that even possible? He is your guardian beast, not hers."

Cyrus simply shrugged his shoulders. "Neither did I give him an order."

Ashton nodded. "I have an idea."

Cyrus raised an eyebrow as he turned to face the demon. "And that is?"

Ashton smirked. The fact that Cyrus had settled down already made him very happy. "Nothing."

Cyrus rolled his eyes and glanced out the window. "I will speak with him."

Ashton twisted his lips, his eyes gleaming with pure delight. "Please do."

Cyrus remained silent. He kept staring at the snow-covered garden with a blank expression. Waiting...

He blinked.

A massive crack of thunder echoed through the air. Surely enough, everyone in Leimpia heard it.

Cyrus’s gaze was fixed on the lightning that streaked across the sky and fell squarely into the garden. It vanished, leaving Sage with Snowflake in her arms, and he appeared right in front of her.

"Sage." He called, with surprise in his blue slit eyes.

Sage parted her lips, startled by his sudden appearance. She could not keep the tears from welling up in her eyes.

"You..." Before she could finish speaking, Cyrus drew her into an unexpectedly warm embrace, completely ignoring the nine-tailed fox in her arms.

"Do not speak." He whispered softly, but the fear and relief were so clear. "I am sorry, I could not come for you."

Sage sniffed, smiling. She remained silent, preferring to enjoy the warmth of his passionate embrace.

Gladly, he was careful not to crush the guardian beast that had managed to open a gap between them.

"Sage!" A familiar voice filled with ecstatic joy suddenly erupted.

Cyrus immediately released her and took the nine-tailed fox from her arms.

"Katherine!" Sage automatically called out, rushing to Katherine, who was running towards her with tears in her eyes.

They embraced tightly, Katherine wailing loudly and inspecting Sage’s body for scratches caused by her ripped and blood-stained clothing.

Cyrus smiled. "Thank you." Turning his attention to the nine-tailed fox he was holding.

Blinking, Snowflake rubbed his head against Cyrus’s hand.

"Your Majesty!" Kion rushed into the scene, accompanied by the treacherous four.

They had just returned from their daily search for the queen, not expecting to find her in the mansion.

They surrounded her, telling her how relieved and terrified they were when she vanished unexpectedly.

Cyrus looked at his wife, his heart swelling at the smile on her face.

He wanted her to keep that smile. He wished for nothing but the joy she was experiencing at that precise moment in her life.

Sadly, he had just 48 hours until his birthday. They were down to just two days.

"Katherine." Cyrus called.

The water mage cast him a glance. "Yes?"

"Could you take her with you?" He asked politely.

Katherine was astounded by his politeness, but she could understand him. So she simply bowed her head at him and led Sage away into the mansion, the mages following closely behind.

Cyrus waited until they were out of sight before returning his attention to his guardian beast. "Why did you protect her?" He asked, maintaining eye contact and a firm tone in his voice.

Snowflake had actually teleported to meet Sage because he sensed she was in danger.

When Cyrus realized why Snowflake had shielded Sage without orders, his eyes widened and began to well up with tears.

"It cannot be." He denied, breathlessly.

"Oh. It is just as I expected." Ashton’s voice came from behind him, with his dark wings spread wide.

Cyrus said nothing. He closed his eyes, allowing his tears to flow slowly.

Ashton sighed, bothered by the silence. His wings vanished, and he walked to stand next to the ice dragon.

"Do not suppress your emotions. She will find out regardless." He said, resting his hand on his shoulder.

Cyrus chuckled. "I am not suppressing my emotions." And his blue slit eyes fluttered up, filled with delight.

Ashton’s eyes widened. "You are happy."

Cyrus nodded at him. "I am."

Ashton laughed. He was not expecting this type of reaction. "How heartwarming. I am going to be a godfather."

Cyrus laughed, shaking his head. "I am going to be a father."

"I am going to be a grandmother!" Aurora’s voice suddenly rang out with excitement.

Cyrus smiled, slightly surprised by his mother’s sudden intervention.

He had not expected to be so pleased with himself. He never imagined himself as a father.

But.... His smile faded.

He stared at Snowflake, who was tugging on his shirt. And as soon as their eyes met, his eyes darkened.

"Mother, who is Alistair?"
