Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 229: Uninvited reinforcements
Back behind the mountain, Stefan and Arthur were watching the mages who were preparing to construct the shield that would protect the town. There were about seven of them, all with determined expressions, which piqued Stefan’s interest.
"Their abilities must have evolved." He spoke quietly to Arthur, who nodded in agreement.
"I believe so as well. Katherine did spend a significant amount of time with them before losing her memories." Arthur said, sighing deeply. "It’s all so enigmatic." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
Stefan nodded, his eyes transforming into a purple reptile-like form that sensed dark energy. He could feel the energy lingering in the air and had a good idea of who were present.
"Statkus mages." He spoke in hushed tones, and when Arthur heard him, he widened his eyes in surprise and turned his gaze to Stefan.
"What?"
"Do not construct the shield!" Stefan yelled at the mages, and they all turned their heads, astounded.
Darren and Roselle arrived at the scene, and Darren appeared more enraged than Roselle, who appeared perplexed.
"How could they not?" Darren demanded angrily.
Screams could be heard from behind them, as well as a loud explosion from the mountain top, which shook the ground beneath their covered feet.
"What in the world was that?" Darren exclaimed in surprise and vanished from view, leaving Roselle and the other mages present to flee into town.
Stefan’s eyes widened as he became aware of growls and snarls echoing and building in every nook and cranny. He got chills not from the cold, but from the beings that were now swarming every part of town. They approached him slowly, like predators, pointing their staffs at him. They were disgusting and appeared to be mindless.
Stefan fists were clenched. He didn’t need to use his powers because he had strength, agility, and fire.
They all shrieked piercingly and began running towards him from all directions, but just as he was about to fight back, the temperature dropped dramatically and he was almost blinded by the sapphire light that appeared in front of him.
He caught his breath as shrieks of pain erupted from the statkus mages, and the ethereal ice dragon appeared in front of him as the light faded. Stefan was stunned, as if time had stopped.
Cyrus had his normal white hair that swayed majestically in the wind, and when Cyrus turned his gaze to him, those eyes were in their silver reptile like form, with silver scales visible beneath his eyes, but when he blinked, Cyrus was back in his dark state, looking menacing as he began disemboweling the statkus mages.
Stefan rubbed his eyes, convinced that he couldn’t see properly. Perhaps it was due to the lighting.
Cyrus turned to face Stefan with a stern expression after killing the statkus mages present. "Are you going to stand there?"
Stefan smirked. "Aren’t you meant to be with Sage?" What is the significance of the sudden appearance of statkus mages?" He inquired angrily.
Cyrus appeared next to him and grabbed his ear. Hard. Stefan let out a painful scream.
"How dare you answer my question with a question?" Cyrus inquired, his voice dangerously cold.
"Stop doing that!" Cyrus yanked Stefan’s ear hard as Ashton’s voice thundered behind them.
"AH!" Stefan screamed out in agony.
"Cyrus!" Ashton yelled, and Cyrus smirked as he let go of the Lord’s ear.
"I broke Anghel’s seal. My "uncles" must have discovered this and are now enraged. They must have ordered the statkus mages to kill all the mages in order to entice Sage to leave the mansion." Cyrus finally spoke up and turned to face Ashton, who was wearing a deep frown.
"I am surprised you brought her here. Whatever happened to her on that mountain set off your scales and returned you to your normal state for a spilt second." Ashton walked towards them, speaking indifferently.
Stefan sighed and rubbed his ear. "I didn’t see anything wrong." He grimaced.
"She is more capable than you realize." Cyrus boasted in hushed tones and then vanished from view.
Stefan was still rubbing his ear in pain, and Ashton shook his head saying, "You look helpless."
"Stay away from me," Stefan said as he walked away into the town where the main battle was taking place.
The numerous body parts on the ground made Ashton scowl and narrow his eyes. He felt a little pity for them after seeing how Cyrus tore their bodies apart.
"She has the ability to trigger his transformation," he said quietly. Ashton had witnessed the explosion on the mountain, and as soon as he arrived on the scene to save Stefan from the statkus mages, he noticed Cyrus in his normal state for a split second, as well as those glittering silver scales beneath his eyes. "Interesting."
...
Sage was back to her normal self on the mountain, kneeling on the ground in the midst of the bodies of the Statkus mages that surrounded her. She couldn’t stop panting and was covered in thick blood from the giant corpse hand’s previous grip.
She closed her eyes and inhaled deeply, relieved that she wasn’t scared or freaking out. There was no need for such feelings. There was no need at all.
"Sage!" Darren’s voice she hadn’t expected to hear echoed and he appeared in front of her, shocked to see her almost completely covered in blood.
She stood up and moved away from him. "What exactly are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be protecting the others?" She asked right away, but he still looked stunned, as if he didn’t hear her.
Sage scoffed and shifted her gaze away. She couldn’t fly, so she had to summon Cyrus. She needed to go to town and help her people.
Darren examined the bodies on the ground. They were mostly disemboweled, which made him aware of her fire whip, but the sheer number of bodies astounded him. They numbered in the hundreds.
"Did you do it all by yourself?" He asked slowly, moving his gaze to Sage, who was staring at the dark clouds of the night.
"Bring me to town." Sage spoke authoritatively, like the queen she was, and Darren could tell she was changing a lot, becoming stronger than she had ever been. It was both good and bad for him because she was drifting away from him, which hurt.
"Sage.."
She locked her gaze on him, causing him to pause. "Didn’t I give you an order?" Her tone chilled him to the bone, and he watched her approach him like the goddess she was. For some reason, he just found himself falling even deeper for her.
Of course he knew Sage was the new queen of Credia, as she was for Antica. He wasn’t supposed to defy her, no matter how stunned he was by her.
She grabbed his arm without saying anything, but just as he was about to vanish, he felt Sage release him, and he ended up in the middle of a battle between dragons and mages and statkus mages.
It was a gruesome sight to see statkus mages kill the mages. He was torn. After all, he was a halfling. He couldn’t help but wonder how he came to exist. His mother and father would never be seen with a statkus mage. Right?
"Darren, look out!" Katherine’s voice boomed behind him, and he felt a strong chill as he sensed the impending attack of a statkus mage behind him.
Water rushed out of his body, swallowing him whole and swirling around him.
Katherine appeared in front of Darren at just the right time, grabbed Statkus’ mage’s staff, overpowering it, and shoved it into the mage’s head, tearing it out harshly and destroying the head in the process.
The statkus mage died in front of her, and she turned to see Darren, who looked relieved and grateful that she had saved him.
"Are you okay? Where is Sage?" She asked eagerly.
River approached Darren with a solemn expression on his face. "Where has Valerie gone?" He inquired right away.
Darren’s eyes widened in response to the question. "Her condition is critical."
"What?!" Katherine’s heart skipped a beat when she heard the news.
River let out a sigh. "Where?"
"I can’t tell because of the sudden chaos, but she will undoubtedly be with Kion." Darren stated calmly.
Katherine immediately grabbed his shoulders, shocked and in pain. "What happened to my mother?! Please tell me! "What became of her?" Her eyes welled up with tears as she began to scream.
River drew her back from Darren. "Stop it. Come with me."
Katherine let go of Darren and looked tremblingly at River. "You know? How come you didn’t tell me?!" She yelled at him.
A fiery red shield formed around all three of them at that moment, and Statkus mages surrounded them, blasting the shield with the dark green glow of their staffs.
River held Katherine close to him, looking slightly surprised. He was relieved that she was now distracted.
The statkus mages were disintegrated by raging dragons, and River looked up to see Mirabella and Victor in their dragon form, and a small smile curved his lips.
When the statkus mages were defeated, the shield that had surrounded them vanished, and they watched Mirabella and Victor fly away to defeat the remaining statkus mages.
"Kath!" Sage called out from behind. It was she who had shielded them.
River let go of Katherine, who ran over to Sage and hugged her tight. "Sage! It’s my mother!" Katherine cried.
Sage looked perplexed and pulled away from the hug. "What?"
Cyrus appeared beside River, his gaze fixed on Katherine and Sage. "It appears that we have uninvited reinforcements." He muttered referring to Mirabella and Victor.
"Seems so," River said with a shrug.
"Sage!" Cyrus yelled in sudden distress.
"Huh?" Sage and Katherine were perplexed as they looked at Cyrus and River, but everything came crashing down when the men saw their lovers vanish into thin air from their sight.
