Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 176: A dear nephew
"NO!" Darren screamed, but Arthur had pinned him so tightly to the ground that even when he struggled to stand, it was all in vain.
All of the mages murmured, wondering what was happening, and River only stared at Cyrus, his emotions well hidden.
"You have got to be kidding me." Ashton burst out laughing like a lunatic, and Cyrus rolled his eyes as if he had predicted Ashton’s reaction.
"All right, let’s go." River addressed Cyrus, who nodded.
"You, Arthur, and Freya, gather the mages and transport them to the small village hidden behind this mountain." Cyrus informed Ashton, who immediately nodded while still laughing.
Freya was in the crowd, tending to the injured mages. She was shocked to hear what Ashton and Cyrus were saying, but she kept her emotions hidden by focusing on healing the mages’ wounds.
River took a step away from the crowd and, at the same time as Cyrus, their wings burst out, causing Ashton to stop laughing and frown at both of them.
"You two are happy, right? You have your lovers with you, whereas I am here alone." He moaned and pursed his lips.
"Then why didn’t you invite the Lord?" River asked, scoffing.
"You are daring, aren’t you?" Cyrus made fun of the demon, who rolled his eyes.
"Mock me again, and I will pinch you hard." He threatened Cyrus, whose face darkened instantly.
Sage would feel pain and wake up if Ashton pinched him painfully. Ashton was well aware of this and was using it to threaten him. Cyrus was tempted to blast the demon out of the mountain, but he restrained himself.
River let out a small laugh, flapped his strong black dragon wings, rose off the ground, and vanished into the clouds.
"Threaten me again, and I will hurt the Lord." Cyrus hissed at Ashton, who frowned, then flapped his wings and lifted off from the ground, disappearing into the clouds.
Ashton turned to face the crowd, but his gaze was drawn to a small group of people who appeared to be staring in the direction Cyrus and River had gone. Kion was among the mages, seated on the ground with Valerie unconscious in his arms.
"Those glares aren’t going to kill him." He told them and reached into his coat pocket.
"What do you intend to do with us?" Kion asked moving his glare to Ashton.
"Give you a temporary residence." Ashton responded cheerfully, looking at the nine-tailed fox who was now sitting next to him. His nine tails were spread out, swaying majestically as always, and he was frowning because Cyrus had completely abandoned the mountain without him.
"Stop frowning, you are acting like a child." Ashton said to fox who glared at him with severe murder intent. Ashton’s lips curled into a smug smile as he watched Snowflake’s eyes turn completely black in their demon form, and the moment Snowflake looked away from him, his eyes returned to normal and he curled into a ball, closing his eyes.
"Exciting." Ashton chuckled and returned his gaze to the crowd in front of him. "Now, let’s get going, shall we?"
....
River was the first to land in front of the frozen water fountain in the mansion; the moment his feet touched the ground, his wings vanished. He sighed deeply and looked down at Katherine, who was still unconscious in his arms, his face filled with worry and guilt.
"I am sorry," he said quietly.
Cyrus landed behind him, his wings vanished, and River turned to face his dear friend, whom he referred as Draco.
"Your magic has become even more powerful." River stated unequivocally.
"At the very least, I have a stable strong magic." Cyrus responded curtly, his gaze fixed on Katherine. "How did she end up in Leimpia?"
"I am not sure, but we met beneath the mountain." River replied, looking worriedly at Katherine.
"She is gradually regaining her memories." Cyrus murmured.
"There is something off about everything that is going on." River muttered and returned her gaze to Cyrus.
"I will do everything in my power to restore her memories, but in the meantime, I must wait and see how her mind functions without her memories." Cyrus said this unexpectedly, and River narrowed his eyes at him, making Cyrus laugh.
"Trust me, I am your friend after all,"
"I trust Cyrus, not Draco. If you cause harm to anyone I care about, I will destroy your dark and demonic states." River’s eyes changed into their golden reptile form as he spoke in a hard, hateful tone.
Cyrus smiled slyly and vanished from view, reappearing in his room. Sage was gently placed on the bed, her boots were removed, and she was covered with the blanket. He smiled at her, leaned in close, and planted a soft kiss on her brow.
He needed to cut back on some dangerous risks now that they were soul bonded, but he wasn’t sure about her.
He moved away from her, sighed deeply, and vanished from the room, leaving faint white and sapphire glows behind. He reappeared in front of River, who was still holding Katherine.
"I need to tell you something, but I do not trust you because you do not trust me." With a sly grin, Cyrus said. "Who knows, you could tell everything I have told you to your adoring uncle Esteban." He went on, taking a long stride towards River, who was frowning deeply.
Cyrus laughed and reached for a letter in his pocket. The letter River had received from Esteban and had given him. He opened the letter and smiled broadly as he began to read it mentally.
’My dear nephew, I have received some unfortunate news about you being a loyal friend to our adversary, the ice dragon. You have betrayed my trust, and I want you to earn it back, or else your dear sister will pay the price for failing to complete her mission to kill Celestia’s alpha heir. Your father is furious, and I am sure you know that he will not forgive her or spare her life, but if you slay the ice dragon and allow me to take credit, I will speak to your father and convince him to spare her life.
That monster is not your friend, dear nephew.
You uncle, Lord Esteban.’
Cyrus burst out laughing and River’s reptile pupils dilated, causing the letter in Cyrus’ grip to catch fire. The letter burned in Cyrus’ hand, but he couldn’t stop laughing.
"Would you like me to kiss you?" He laughed as he dusted the ashes from his hand.
River squinted deeply. "Keep your distance from me." He growled, and Cyrus laughed even more.
