Chapter 138: Now or never

"I keep hearing this, but I am still alive." Cyrus replied curtly and stood up, the snow on his clothes. "What exactly are you doing here? Aren’t you aware that I am trying not to rip your head off your body?" He inquired casually.

Darren’s brow furrowed. "As a result of Sage? You do not love her like I do." He grumbled.

Cyrus didn’t want to waste his strength on the halfling because if he did, he would almost certainly kill Darren. "Unrequited love, how sad." He then walked past Cyrus, but Darren grabbed his wrist.

"I have no connection to the statkus mages; this is my first encounter with them, and I do not even recall my parents. I am not a threat; all I want is to protect Sage." Darren spoke in hushed tones.

Cyrus, enraged by the halfling, yanked his hand away and glared murderously at Darren.

"Do not touch me, and I am unconcerned about anything. Consider protecting yourself rather than someone who does not require your protection." Cyrus then walked back to the main battleground, where the dragons and statkus could be found.

Darren had blasted Cyrus, but he couldn’t figure out why he couldn’t kill the ice dragon. He had the aim, but he was holding back out of fear of injuring Sage.

"What does she see in a dangerous person like him?" He inquired, enviously.

Darren had overheard the war plans and had decided to follow them without anyone’s knowledge in order to see the statkus mages and, if possible, kill Cyrus.

Looking at the dragons burning the mages to dust and the mages killing dragons in ruthless ways, Darren couldn’t deny that he had never seen a war this bloody.

He decided to flee into the forest ahead in order to avoid getting involved with the statkus mages.

Meanwhile, Cyrus and Inkadon were fighting each other, and it appeared that their strength was nearly equal.

Ashton noticed Cyrus stalling and watched Cyrus and the elder mage fight for a while.

"What is going on in that dark mind of his? He is capable of killing her." Ashton muttered and squinted his eyes in suspicion.

He rubbed his bloodied her hands together, and his eyes turned completely black in their demon form, noticing some of Cyrus’ white strands vanish.

"Draco is taking over faster than expected, but what is really going on?" Ashton inquired, dodging a blast aimed at his face.

His eyes were wide open in shock. "Look at my lovely face!" He exclaimed, panickedly rubbing her face.

Frowning deeply, he turned to see another army of statkus mages approaching and attacking immediately. Killing dragons as if they were pests.

"Competition, huh?" With a smirk, Ashton asked, shifting his gaze to River, who was still in his dragon form, continuing his attack of burning the statkus mages.

When Ashton turned to face the approaching army, his dark wings appeared and stretched with ease. "It has been a while." He groaned and stretched his arms out.

.

While blasting at Cyrus, Inkadon was becoming frustrated by how easily he avoided her attacks. Cyrus was unwaveringly calm as she screamed loudly, not hiding her frustration.

She could tell something was wrong right away. It was becoming clear to her that he was more powerful than her and could kill her with the snap of his finger, so why was he stalling? What was he thinking?

Cyrus sent an ice spear directly at her stomach while the elder mage was distracted, and she shrieked in agony as she fell to the ground.

"You are the least powerful of the elders, but your tongue is the most powerful."

Inkadon trembled in pain and stared at Cyrus, who was still bleeding from his stomach.

"Impa..tient?" She asked, closing her eyes to try to block out the pain, then grunted as she opened her eyes and stood up. "You can not get rid of me that easily, Cyrus Dragos," she said with a smile as she easily removed the spear.

Cyrus hummed, knowing that her injury had been healed. "Respect that name, or your death will come sooner than I would like." He spoke calmly.

Inkadon aimed a staff at his stomach and blasted it away.

Cyrus smiled and caught the staff, despite feeling a minor ache. "Stop being pathetic; you are no longer impressing me." He growled, rendering Inkadon speechless.

She had never faced an ice dragon as powerful as Cyrus before, and his personality was so vexing to her that she wanted to kill him at every opportunity.

"You will be destroyed by the one you love, ice dragon," she said calmly. Her raspy voice sank into his head, but he shook it off and easily broke the staff, leaving her stunned.

"You will be destroyed by someone I love." He was direct.

"Cyrus!" A familiar voice filled with fear screamed and Sage approached the scene, stunned.

Her eyes instantly turned fiery red, and she screamed in rage as soon as Inkadon turned her gaze to her. "Keep your distance from my husband!"

Cyrus’ lips twitched and he let go of the broken staff, taking a step back to watch Sage unleash a full force of fire on the elder statkus mage, who shrieked in agony until she vanished into nothing.

Sage took a deep breath, looked at Cyrus, and ran to him, hugging him tightly. "What is wrong with you?!" She screamed, her face buried in his chest.

"It is now or never." Cyrus whispered, took a dagger from his coat, and grabbed Sage by the shoulders, pushing her away.

Sage’s eyes widened in confusion. "W.."

"I love you Sage Dragos, I love you more than you will ever know." Cyrus confessed and smacked his lips on her before she could react.

He kissed her passionately, but not to his heart’s content because he didn’t want to waste time.

His eyes opened and were in their blue slits but then, switched back silver. "gods!" He groaned and broke the kiss.

"Please do not leave me." He finished with a genuine mile that brought out his dimples.

Sage was completely taken aback, and her face was flushed from the unexpected. "W.."

Cyrus cut her words by grabbing her wrist, placing the dagger on her palm, and controlling her hand and the dagger by stabbing him directly in the chest, into his heart.
