Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle'-Chapter 354: A Truly Vile Person
Chapter 354: A Truly Vile Person
Angelica heard the receptionist’s message, forced down the irritation bubbling in her chest, and, after a long pause, squeezed out a smile. "Thank you. Otherwise, Selina probably wouldn’t have agreed to see me."
She also noticed a few reporters trailing in behind her and took a slow, deliberate breath.
Ever since Logan had publicly denied going to the hospital for her, online speculation had been swirling. Many were starting to doubt whether the child was even his.
Angelica couldn’t afford to wait anymore—she had to stir up a scandal.
She wanted the world to see her as the kind, wronged one—and Selina as cruel and jealous. She needed the public on her side.
More importantly, she needed Logan to feel sorry for her.
Angelica made her way upstairs and, with an air of delicate innocence, stood beside Selina like a fragile flower wilting in the wind.
Selina lounged comfortably, watching her. She didn’t speak. She waited... until Angelica was sweating under the tension.
"Sit down," Selina finally said.
Angelica bit her lip. "If my dear little sister Selina doesn’t want me to sit, how could I dare?"
Selina blinked inwardly. Wow. Is she switching up her tactics now?
Trying the whole helpless act so people would think Selina was bullying her?
Too bad Angelica had miscalculated—Selina didn’t give a damn what people thought.
She nodded coolly. "Okay, then stay standing."
Angelica’s expression froze. "..."
Selina sipped her tea unhurriedly. Angelica said nothing, so neither did she. After all, it wasn’t her legs that were cramping.
Bang.
"Mrs. Reid!"
Suddenly, the office door burst open. A middle-aged man rushed in, uninvited, face full of urgency. "You’re Mrs. Reid, right?"
Selina didn’t recognize him. "And you are...?"
The man drew a deep breath. "Mrs. Reid, I’m the general manager of Product Division A here at Reid Group. My name is Wilson. Could we talk for a moment?"
Selina’s eyes narrowed sharply. She glanced meaningfully at Angelica.
Wilson. General manager. Could this be the same Manager Wilson Amelia had planted?
She lowered her gaze. "Sure, Manager Wilson. What would you like to discuss?"
"Mrs. Reid, I earned my master’s from a top university overseas. I’ve worked at Reid Group for over a decade. I may not be perfect, but I’ve worked hard. Please—could you ask Mr. Reid to retract his decision to fire me?"
Selina raised an eyebrow. Logan moved that fast?
"Manager Wilson, you know very well why you were fired. What’s the point of pleading with me?"
Wilson’s tone grew more desperate. "It was just a small mistake! Why terminate me over it? Mrs. Reid, please, I’m begging you! And let’s be honest—wasn’t I fired because of you? I can’t accept that!"
Selina was stunned. Because of her? Was the explosion somehow her fault now?
She opened her mouth to respond—
—but Angelica beat her to it.
Eyes misty, Angelica said gently, "Selina, this really isn’t right. We should be kind to others. How could you fire someone so essential to the company just because of personal grudges?"
Manager Wilson’s eyes darted quickly. "Mrs. Reid, just because I once spoke a few kind words about Miss Angelica, you’ve held a grudge all this time? And now you’ve fired me over it? This company isn’t even yours—what gives you the right to act so recklessly?"
Angelica sighed, shaking her head. "Selina, Manager Wilson has served Reid Group loyally for over ten years. You shouldn’t just fire him like that. I know you’re upset with me, but let’s not drag innocent people into our conflict. Don’t you agree?"
Selina watched the little performance—the seamless back-and-forth—and didn’t rush to respond.
Her eyes flicked to the door, just in time to catch the flash of a hidden camera.
Ah. So this was the game.
She calmly set down her teacup and spoke, her tone casual.
"So, the two of you are hoping I’ll speak up for Manager Wilson?"
Manager Wilson nodded.
He hadn’t expected Selina’s eyes to suddenly turn cold.
"Manager Wilson," she said sharply, "Logan has led Reid Group for years without a single misstep. If he decided to fire you, he had a reason. Or do you really want me to say it out loud?"
Wilson had assumed Selina was some clueless pushover who’d easily cave to pressure. Not only did she refuse—she even left him hanging.
He snapped, embarrassed and furious.
"Mrs. Reid, I’ve got connections everywhere. You don’t want to make an enemy out of me! Besides, you’re just someone Mr. Reid’s going to dump soon. You might need me to speak up for you one day!"
Selina nearly laughed out loud.
Was he serious? Did he and Angelica think she was that dumb?
"Looks like we’re done here, Manager Wilson. You can see yourself out."
Wilson’s face twisted. Seeing no way out, he lashed out in desperation.
"Selina! You’re blowing a personal grudge way out of proportion. Reid Group’s firing a veteran employee of over a decade just because of one woman—where’s the justice in that?!"
Outside, the reporters perked up. Smelling blood, they scrambled to contact editors, prepping to go live.
Wilson sneered. "If this gets out, Mrs. Reid, you’ll be the one people blame. Are you sure you want that?"
Selina paused at the door. "Are you threatening me?"
"I’m just saying," Wilson blustered, "don’t mess with someone like me—experienced, connected. The moment I make a comeback, you’re finished! Why can’t you be more like Miss Angelica—kind, compassionate? If this were her, she would’ve forgiven me by now—"
"Make a comeback?"
A voice, low and icy, cut through Wilson’s rant like a knife.
Logan had stepped in, placing himself protectively in front of Selina. His expression was dark, his eyes cold, and he had clearly spotted the hidden camera.
Fear gripped Wilson’s chest—Logan? Here? Wasn’t he in a meeting?!
Angelica’s face flushed. Trying to play the gracious, kind-hearted act again, she quickly stood up and said sweetly, "Logan, don’t be upset. Manager Wilson didn’t mean any harm. Selina’s just too emotional sometimes. I don’t think it’s fair to fire a key employee over a personal conflict. Manager Wilson—"
Logan cut her off, voice flat:
"Miss Angelica, do you have a problem with my decision?"
Angelica stumbled, pretending to be deeply hurt. "I just... I can’t stand to see Manager Wilson treated this way. If upsetting Selina means losing your job, then are we all supposed to walk on eggshells around her?"
"Pitiful?" Logan scoffed, his voice low and rough, every word a nail in Wilson’s coffin. "When Manager Wilson arranged the explosion in the production facility, was he feeling pitiful then? Or just criminal?"
Dead silence.
The reporters froze—Explosion? Did they hear that right?
Selina’s smile was long gone. Her voice went sharp and cold.
"Exactly. What right does Manager Wilson have to act like the victim? He cut corners and deliberately planted flammable materials in the production area. That’s what caused the explosion."
"Jaxon was badly injured. Logan barely made it out alive. If Jaxon hadn’t noticed something wrong and ordered an evacuation—how many people would’ve died that day? Did you ever think about that, Manager Wilson?"
Wilson’s jaw worked, but no sound came out.
Selina turned slowly toward Angelica, voice dripping with disdain.
"And you, Angelica. You’re standing here, defending a man who nearly killed over a hundred people. I’m being called unreasonable and vindictive for refusing to forgive him?"
She tilted her head. "What exactly makes you empathize so deeply with someone capable of mass murder? Because if I refuse to ’forgive’ him, I’m the villain now?"
