Chapter 277: Learning the truth[3]

Swoosh!

Before he even react, the massive bird swooped down on him with terrifying speed, its large beak threatened to swallow him whole.

The last thing Harry saw was the slimy, dark insides of its mouth before everything went dark.

"Haa!" Harry gasped, his eyes snapping back open in shock, with his chest heaving uncontrollably.

He subconsciously tapped his chest, half-expecting to find it torn from the bird’s attack, but all he felt was his steady beating heart.

Seeing he was still okay, he signed in relief, the tension draining from his body as he took in his surroundings.

’That... was really scary.’ He thought, glancing up at the white ceiling stretching above him.

’I’m back... here.’ He mumbled inwardly, slowly getting back up on his feet.

After all of that, he was finally back in the white room!

The start contrast of the danger before him moments ago and the calm room made him feel a little disoriented, however, he wasn’t complaining.

"That ended faster than I expected." A familiar voice suddenly pierced through his eyes, snapping him back to the present.

Harry’s eyes widened slightly in shock as he turned to the source of the voice.

His gaze met with that of a tall brown haired man, sitting on the ground a distance away.

"Other voice..." He muttered, his gaze trembling slightly in shock.

However, he soon realised the error in his words, and he shook his head slightly, before correcting himself.

"No... Leon Ainsworth." He muttered, still reeling from the shock of it all.

After witnessing most of the man’s life, his mind was torn apart, and he didn’t even know the right words to say.

Due to this, an awkward silence hung between them, so thick that it could be sliced by a knife.

"That’s good... you’ve really seen it all..." The other voice, or rather, Leon said, breaking the weird silence in the air.

He sighed lazily, slowly standing back up on his feet.

"That means i won’t have to explain too much, you should have gotten a general understanding... of what kind of threat you’re up against." He said, walking towards Harry.

"Y-yeah..." Harry thought, his mind still racing as he thought about everything.

Although he witnessed his firsthand, it was still a lot to take in.

The existence of Celestials... their relentless hunt for Leon, as well as the terrifying power displayed by each of them—it was all overwhelming.

However, out of all that, what shocked him the most was what happened at the end.

The time getting reversed... by a whopping four hundred years, as well as the white streak’s strange connection to him.

"But I don’t understand something... no, I’m still a little confused about everything." Harry said, his face twisting into a slight frown.

"The system... how is it related to all of this? Why exactly did that white streak come to me... and that timeline also, what really happened to all of it?" Harry asked, his heart racing with each word he spoke.

"Well... I guess it’s natural for you to still be a little confused." Leon said, his lips slowly curling into a wry smile.

"But don’t worry, I’ll explain everything to you." He said, flashing a warm smile at him.

"Back then... when I was overwhelmed by my energy, I tried to reverse time, hoping I can bring everyone back... save eveyeone." He muttered, his eyes flashing with a sad glint.

Although saying all of this brought back bitter memories in the depths of his mind, it was something he had to do.

He had to explain it properly, or there would be no way for them to move forward.

"But I overestimated myself." He paused for a few seconds, bringing about another awkward silence between them.

"I couldn’t properly control the raging energy. I wanted to take time back by five years, but the energy spiralled out of my control, and tine went back much further than I intended." He continued.

"The time was supposed to go back five years, but due to the raging energy, it was reversed back four hundred years instead... to the year 2015."

Harry’s gaze trembled when he heard his words, his eyes widening slightly in shock.

Although he had already seen it, hearing it from Leon itself made him realise the gravity of the situation.

’That meant everything was rewinded... eighty times more than what he planned.’ He thought, the frown on his face deepening even more.

After that Leon continued in his explanation, his voice somehow steady despite the weight of his words.

"When that ’white streak’ went back in time... the massive amount of energy within it caused a cataclysmic reaction when it hit the earth." He said, pausing once again, to let his words sink in properly.

Harry’s mind raced as he tried comprehending the implications behind Leon’s words.

However, the more things he realised, the greater his shock became.

"So... the mana awakening in earth... it was due to that ’cataclysmic reaction’?" He muttered, gasping in shock.

"Yeah..." Leon replied, his eyes flashing with a strange glint.

"The mana wasn’t supposed to awaken that early, but due to what I did... it was forcefully awakened."

Although his voice seemed steady, Harry could sense the deep remorse within his words as he spoke.

However, he perfectly understood him. After all, such a massive change had happened due to his mistake, it was only natural he felt terrible about it.

Based on what he learnt during the time spent watching Leon’s life, mana awakened in the world during the year 2215.

However, they were currently in the year 2215, meaning Leon’s actions caused the earth to awaken two hundred years earlier than it was supposed to!

Back then, the earth was far too immature to withstand the sudden amount of mana, which was why the mutated beasts were so powerful, some of them even shooting up to the fifth stage upon mutation.

Due to this, the world went into an apocalypse, a time forever etched in the history of the earth, remembered as the ’dark ages’.

"It’s all my fault, all those deaths... suffering... all through the years. I’m the cause of everything." Leon said, tightly clenching his hands into a fist.

When I started this novel, I never imagined I’ll come this far in the story. Though there’s still quite a long way to go, I feel fulfilled I was able to come this far. The novel might not be performing well, but at least the story’s progressing... which still makes me happy.
