Magic Life in the Empire-Chapter 111: Gains
Chapter 111 - Gains
Eventually Cyril calmed down enough to answer the knight's questions, and they went to a nearby guard station.
He was asked what happened, did he know that vampire personally, was this a first time, and other things. It felt like an interrogation.
Cyril answered a bit vaguely, hiding much of the truth. He managed to get away with it after introducing his full name.
As expected, that immediately changed the knight's tune, and he helped as much as he could, offering even to take Cyril to a renowned healer for a checkup, but Cyril refused.
After a short and easy process, Cyril was free from the knight's nagging, back on the streets.
He didn't feel too good about using his family name like this, but there was no other choice. There were some things he wanted to hide, and he couldn't risk a thorough investigation.
...
Walking under the dark clouds, Cyril's thoughts carried him to the bite he received at the end.
You did something, right?
Rhamn cautiously replied, "Yeah. She injected a kind of 'virus' into you that slowly began changing the structure of your blood."
Ever since the fight, she had been keeping quiet. Likely equally upset about their loss.
However, talking about this topic seemed to lift her spirits up a little.
"It's an intriguing thing. After analyzing as best I could, I think I can easily recreate it," she said with interest.
So what? You can make me a vampire?
"If you really want to, yes. I can even easily revert the process. Though I would say there is no need for that, your body is already enhanced more than a common vampire."
Her words somewhat disappointed Cyril. If there was an opportunity to get stronger, he would gladly take it. He had no qualms about retaining his human qualities or whatnot. Such things were secondary to him.
Reading his thoughts, Rhamn smiled a little with joy, eager to share something else.
"There's another useful insight here. Vampires' unique biology allows them to gain sustenance from blood—or rather, it demands that they do; otherwise, they die. This is one of the prices they pay for their enhanced abilities. Doesn't that sound a bit familiar?"
She immediately continued, "It's somewhat similar to us, though it is mana in our case."
Then shook her head. "I am not saying we are a kind of vampire; that's definitely not the case."
"But this comparison gave me an idea. Blood is rather rich with mana, and, after today's events, I can make it so that you can drink blood as a mana potion." She pointed her index finger up dramatically.
Cyril stopped in his tracks from her words. He didn't expect to acquire an ability like that.
Though it was rather useful in certain scenarios—after all, getting mana was important for his survival—it didn't directly increase his strength, and as such, it appeared slightly pointless in his eyes.
Rhamn smiled at his thoughts. "I just thought this was a neat ability. The biggest advantage is another thing."
It seems he wasn't beaten in vain, at least. Rhamn gained quite a bit from this encounter.
"I can not only recreate the 'vampire virus,' I can alter it to suit my vision, for example, make it more invasive than the original." Her smile turned more evil. "When that mosquito dares to drink blood from you again, I'll mix in there a surprise she will never forget."
Her voice held great hatred, going through gritted teeth. There was one more thing Cyril underestimated.
As much pride as he had in himself, Rhamn had many times more. It was less confidence and more pure belief in their superiority compared to everyone else.
Such a defeat angered her like nothing else in this world, and she will stop at nothing to get revenge.
Seeing her so full of hatred even poured a bit of cold water on Cyril, and he quickly calmed down.
...
As he was walking down the street, a red blur suddenly flew straight at Cyril's face at great speed.
He wasn't surprised or alarmed at such an event, instead making a smile. "Sorry for making you worry."
Morpho fluttered her wings in his face, as if in protest, and familiarly landed on his shoulder. Only then did she calm down.
"Cyril! You are fine!" Cedric yelled in relief as he ran up to him while holding Tigris.
The tiger quickly struggled free from the student's grasp and went to Cyril, asking to be picked up.
Cyril, of course, obliged and put the cub on his other shoulder.
Seeing these two had a great effect on his mood. He immediately felt several times better.
"We are so sorry for making you worry," Rhamn said as well.
Back when Cyril was yanked away by that vampire, the two magic creatures desperately tried to reach Cyril's location. Thanks to their connection, they were aware of his position.
However, Rhamn urgently forbade them from arriving. She was afraid that woman would do something horrible to them in revenge.
Cyril agreed with her thought process. The vampire only was concerned with tormenting him and might want to quickly get rid of any hindrances.
So the two could only spend this time anxiously waiting.
Morpho and Tigris clearly felt frustrated over their own weakness. It seems this was a feeling they all shared today.
...
After ignoring them for some time to talk to the magic creatures, Cyril coughed and turned to Cedric and Emily.
"I am completely fine; there is no reason to worry," he calmly said.
While he had to throw away his jacket, since it got torn quite significantly earlier, all his wounds were healed completely, aside from the one on his pride, of course.
He turned to look at Emily; it seemed she was feeling a bit better now. Her face no longer carried sadness, only worry.
"What happened to you?" Curiously asked Cedric.
From their perspective, he was gone as the wind, with not a single trace to follow. It left them feeling quite scared.
Cyril sighed slightly but decided against ignoring them.
They walked together while he retold what had happened. Cyril hid the important details, of course.
