Mage Manual-Chapter 1431 - 1044: I Have No Home Anymore (Third Update)
Ash walked along East Lake for quite a while without discovering anything, just as he was about to turn back, he suddenly noticed three mages in black guarding the entrance to the lawn next to the library’s small garden. Two of these mages were Gold-level, one was Holy Domain, a rather extravagant setup for guards.
Ash felt a stir in his heart, leaping up onto a tall streetlamp, from where he could see two blonde beauties sitting in a small pavilion within the garden, one of whom was Felix.
And sitting opposite her was none other than one of the top five nobles of the Kingdom of Stars, once a swordsmanship genius on par with Sonia, and the only blood relative of Felix—
Demi Vosloda.
"...This time I can let the Throne Hall ignore your presence, but if you continue to act with them, even I won’t be able to keep covering for you," Demi’s voice was filled with fatigue and helplessness, looking at his sister with a touch of pleading in his eyes.
He wore a blue robe with silver armor, luxurious yet unable to hide the essence of combat gear, unsure whether it was for safety concerns or to demonstrate his own style.
"Aren’t you the one who boasted you’d become the most fair and virtuous noble?" Felix disregarded his goodwill, speaking coldly: "Now you’ve inherited the title and immediately learned the nobles’ tricks of favoritism and cover-up? The corruptive effect of power is truly beyond my imagination."
Demi fell silent for a moment, rubbing his temple: "If you’re being enchanted..."
"No, I willingly follow Miss Lena in rebellion against the Starry Sky," Felix replied: "But of course, you’ll say I’m enchanted as it stands, so my will cannot be my will, I must follow your ideas... Worthy of that man’s bloodline, you love to arrange others’ destinies, is the next step to marry me off?"
"Within a month, the ’Noble Charter’ will be reinstated." Demi ignored her provocation, speaking earnestly: "This is my last chance to help you... Once I receive the Stars Blessing and formally inherit the Star-forging title, the will of the nation will override everything, the enemies of Dazzling Star will be the enemies of Vosloda."
"Since the ancestors, Vosloda has been the sharpest sword of Dazzling Star, and the most sacrificial shield, the legacy is unbroken, extinguishing alongside the stars." Demi raised the steaming red tea, gazing at his reflection in the cup: "I will be no exception."
"Congratulations." Felix crossed her arms, speaking indifferently: "Next time we meet, you might try taking my head to demonstrate your loyalty. But let me remind you, I am now a Holy Sanctuary Mage too, and personally beheading a Duke of Vosloda has always been my dream."
Demi put down the teacup, taking a deep breath: "You’re with them, what do you truly want? Power? Dreams? Or companionship?"
"Why should I tell you?"
"Because I know you don’t really know what you want!"
Demi suddenly slammed the marble table heavily, the surface instantly cracked, his face unable to suppress his anger. Felix was shocked speechless, for so many years, it was her first time seeing her brother lose his temper.
"You’re just because you resent Vosloda, resent the nobles, and are enchanted by someone like Dedarose, so you joined the Four Pillars God Sect against the Starry Sky. You don’t truly believe in the teachings of the Four Pillars God Sect, you just want to vent the grievances and anger accumulated since childhood, you want to retaliate against this world, this country, you hope Father could beg for your forgiveness... Like a child running away from home, hoping the adults self-reflect!"
"But Father is no longer here," Demi’s right hand covering his face, his voice suppressed with a hint of weeping: "You’ll never wait for his apology... Neither can I."
"Felix, enough, come home."
"I won’t interfere with your life, do what you wish, I’ll become Duke of Vosloda, and bow to Dazzling Star. You don’t need to bear Vosloda’s responsibilities, only to enjoy Vosloda’s glory... Unless the stars fall, I will uphold your peace all your life."
Felix stared blankly at him, as if surprised her brother would say such words.
After a long while, she averted her gaze, the sharp obsession on her face quietly dissipating, her left hand propping her cheek, she spoke softly: "Until now, you’re finally posing as a brother?"
"If you hate me—"
"No, I don’t hate you." Felix gently shook her head: "You’re the most perfect brother I’ve seen... Although I haven’t seen many... But I know you’re truly good, you’ve always cared for me, covered for me, trying hard to navigate in front of Beverly. If it weren’t for you, I probably would’ve died long ago, how could I hate you?"
"I’m just distancing myself from you." She said: "Because you’re the most perfect brother, but not my brother."
Demi stared at her in a daze, seemingly not understanding what she meant.
"You strive to become a perfect heir, a perfect son, a perfect brother, a perfect student, a perfect noble." Felix said: "You pursue perfection in everything, even interpersonal relationships. Because you’re the perfect son, you couldn’t use thunderous means to stop your mother, even as she sends people time and again to assassinate me; because you’re the perfect brother, you couldn’t kill me, the illegitimate child, directly, just doing your best to protect me."
