Madam, Please Behave-Chapter 308: Don’t Bully Her
December 5th.
On the school’s playground.
Zhao Xuanwen eagerly took the spicy snack sticks that Zhang Yunjing handed her. After just one bite, her whole face lit up with joy—she was over the moon.
Zhang Yunjing stared at her with that hopeless look on her face but didn’t say a word. Instead, she smoothly picked up the notebook lying on the ping-pong table, pen in hand.
“All right, keep talking.”
Bribed into it, Zhao Xuanwen swallowed her bite but didn’t answer right away—instead, she made a heartfelt declaration.
“So this is what spicy sticks taste like!”
“Huh? You’ve never had spicy sticks before?”
Zhang Yunjing was just about to jot down some juicy gossip about Liu Zhiyue when she heard that and looked stunned.
Among all the students, spicy sticks were insanely popular. This girl, who always seemed like she could eat endlessly, had never tried them before?
Zhao Xuanwen shook her head.
“Nope… My mom says they’re bad for your health, so she won’t let me eat them…”
“All right, whatever, let’s not get into that—come on! Liu Zhiyue’s embarrassing moments! I’ve got my pen ready!” fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
“I already told you, Liu Zhiyue hasn’t done anything that embarrassing… If I had to say…”
“That’s what I’m talking about!”
Just hearing there was something made Zhang Yunjing instantly giddy. If she could dig up some dirt on Liu Zhiyue, then running to the snack shop to buy spicy sticks would’ve been totally worth it!
A little give, a little take!
With anticipation written all over her face, Zhang Yunjing watched as Zhao Xuanwen tilted her head slightly and stared off at the school building, getting lost in the memory.
She started speaking.
“It was the second semester of first year… My mom had just bought me a new outfit. I wore it to school, and when he saw me…”
“What? Did he stare at you all creepy?”
“No, he said my outfit looked good!”
“……”
Clearly lost in the memory, Zhao Xuanwen covered her face with one hand like she was super embarrassed. Just thinking back to the moment when chubby Liu Zhiyue said something like that to her…
It still made her feel all shy.
On the other hand, Zhang Yunjing was completely dumbfounded. When it finally sank in, she shouted emotionally,
“That’s it? That’s the embarrassing story you were gonna tell me?”
“I never said it was something embarrassing, did I? I told you—he’s a good guy. Why do you keep asking me for dirt on him…”
“……”
Stunned into silence, Zhang Yunjing looked at Zhao Xuanwen’s dopey little face and suddenly felt like she’d been a total idiot these past few days.
Her notebook was now filled with nothing but compliments about Liu Zhiyue—not a single shred of dirt!
Just thinking about Liu Zhiyue’s smug face and cocky attitude made Zhang Yunjing’s heart rate spike. She was so angry it felt like steam was coming out of her ears.
Biting her lower lip, she stared at Zhao Xuanwen, who was about to eat another spicy stick, and in a fit of rage, snatched it right out of her hand.
“I bought these! You’re not getting any more!”
“What the heck! You said you’d give them to me!”
“Well, I changed my mind!”
“You’re breaking your promise!”
“So what if I am?”
As she said that, Zhang Yunjing opened her mouth and took a big bite. The next moment, her cheeks were stuffed with spicy sticks.
Chewing with exaggerated pride, she glared triumphantly, which made Zhao Xuanwen even angrier.
Fuming, Zhao Xuanwen stomped her foot and stormed off toward the snack shop.
She had made up her mind—she was going to buy her own bag and eat it all by herself.
Watching her storm off, Zhang Yunjing slowly stopped chewing. The overwhelming spicy flavor was starting to wear on her.
She’d eaten too many in one go. Not only were they no longer tasty, but she actually felt kinda sick…
Turning her head, she spotted the trash bin by the track and jogged over. She spat out what was in her mouth and tossed the rest of the uneaten spicy sticks in after it.
She smacked her lips once, turned her head—and found herself face-to-face with Liu Zhiyue.
Startled, she froze on the spot. When it registered, Zhang Yunjing jumped and instinctively took a step back, hurriedly hiding the notebook behind her back.
She stared at him cautiously.
“What do you want?”
“What were you and Zhao Xuanwen talking about just now?”
Liu Zhiyue looked at her with a serious expression.
He had just finished in the restroom and was heading back to class when he saw the two of them acting all sneaky near the ping-pong table, whispering about something.
Then he saw Zhang Yunjing snatch something from Zhao Xuanwen, they exchanged a few angry words, and Zhao Xuanwen ran off upset.
All of a sudden, a possibility popped into his head—maybe Zhang Yunjing was bullying Zhao Xuanwen. She even took her snack, didn’t eat it, and just threw it away!
Given the impression Zhang Yunjing had left on him...
It wasn’t out of the question.
After all, he had been Zhao Xuanwen’s deskmate for two years. Back in their old class, she’d been an easy target for bullies…
Not knowing what Liu Zhiyue was thinking, Zhang Yunjing frowned at his accusatory tone.
Her voice rose in frustration.
“What’s it to you?”
“Don’t bully her.”
“Why would I bully her?”
Zhang Yunjing looked at him, confused.
“I’m not the type to stir up drama for no reason. What gives you the right to say I bullied her?”
“I saw you snatch her snack…”
“That was mine to begin with!”
“You bought it?”
Liu Zhiyue hadn’t expected that. He paused, then looked at her with suspicion—this girl did have a habit of fibbing…
“Seriously?”
“Believe what you want! I’m telling you, I didn’t bully her!”
Being wrongly accused felt awful—at least that’s how Zhang Yunjing saw it. The way Liu Zhiyue had spoken made it clear he thought she was bullying Zhao Xuanwen.
It seriously ticked her off.
She held her notebook in one hand and pulled her hat lower with the other.
Liu Zhiyue didn’t say anything. He just stood there, watching.
“…Sorry. I thought you were bullying her. I was too harsh.”
“……”
Seeing that she still wasn’t responding, Liu Zhiyue figured it was best to leave it there. He thought for a second, then pulled a tissue from his pocket and handed it to her.
With her head slightly bowed, Zhang Yunjing glanced up and saw his outstretched hand, holding a single tissue.
Looking a bit apologetic, Liu Zhiyue spoke again.
“Wipe your mouth. You’ve got oil all over it…”
“……”
She reached out and took it.
“…Thanks.”
“I’m heading back.”
“Mm.”
With that, Liu Zhiyue turned and walked off toward the school building without another word. Zhang Yunjing looked down at the tissue he had given her.
It was folded… looked like it was left over from earlier.
She raised it to wipe her mouth, then mumbled under her breath, like she was talking to herself—
“Cocky bastard…”
