Lunar Legacy: Rise Of The Beastlord-Chapter 127: Cool MC
Chapter 127: Cool MC
Jayden rose up quickly, grinning like a lunatic. He wasn’t even bothered by the fact that the side of his head was bleeding. "Come on!" he voiced out. "I know you can do better than that."
Then he moved and engaged the beast again, his laughter rang out across the battlefield as he danced around another clumsy swing from the D-Rank Earth Smasher. His claws flashed in the sunlight, leaving another crimson trail across the beast’s already lacerated torso.
"Is this really all a D-Rank can do?" Jayden taunted, backflipping over a sweeping arm that would have crushed a normal man’s ribs. He landed lightly, immediately darting forward to deliver two quick slashes to the beast’s thigh. Blood sprayed across the trampled grass. "I’ve fought F-Ranks that put up more of a fight!"
The Smasher roared in frustration, its massive chest heaving. Steam rose from its wounds where blood flowed freely. Jayden’s golden eyes tracked every drop with clinical precision, and a smirk grew on his face. His hypothesis was correct - Earth Smashers sacrificed rapid regeneration for their incredible durability and strength.
After his second encounter with the Earth Smasher that stole from him, Jayden discovered that the scar on the beast’s chest was from the injury he had inflicted on it the first time they met. Which meant, the beast either didn’t have an healing factor or it’s healing time was very slow compared to normal beasts.
And earlier before the D-Rank Earth Smasher arrived, he saw that the small earth smasher he had injured in the eye was still clutching unto it’s wound... even after several minutes of infliction.
And this further proved his theory... Earth Smasher’s healed slower compared to other beasts.
This was why he had been so confident in winning, the D-Rank Earth Smasher wasn’t healing from the wounds he was inflicting on it. And it was already getting weak due to blood loss.
[Hm, it seems to be slowing down] Luna pointed out. [Guess you were right afterall]
Jayden smirked, easily sidestepping another telegraphed punch. "Told you I didn’t need any transformation."
Luna scoffed. [Just don’t get too cocky. This beast isn’t a push over.. one wrong move and you’ll be dead before you know it]
Jayden chuckled. "That’s the whole point of a battle, Luna. The thrill of almost dying." he laughed and met the Smasher head on. The Beast swiped it’s fist in a arc but Jayden ducked and retaliated with a claw slash to it’s torso. It roared and kept trying to hit Jayden.
And for the next several minutes, Jayden became a whirlwind of destruction. He moved with calculated precision, his claws finding every weak point in the Smasher’s defenses:
BAM!
A vicious uppercut to the jaw that sent teeth flying
SWISH.
A spinning slash across the hamstrings that nearly dropped the beast to its knees
SHLKK.
A brutal stab between the ribs that made the creature bellow in agony
Each wound bled profusely, none closing at the accelerated rate Jayden had come to expect from D-Rank beasts.
"Getting tired yet?" Jayden goaded as he ducked beneath a wild swing. He retaliated with a knee to the gut that made the Smasher gag. "You’re looking a little pale. Might want to get those wounds checked."
The beast’s movements were becoming increasingly sluggish, its attacks losing their devastating power. Yet its crimson eyes burned with undiminished fury. Jayden could practically see the gears turning in its primitive but cunning mind.
Then, in a move of apparent desperation, the Smasher suddenly slammed both fists into the ground with all its remaining strength.
Jayden braced for the familiar shockwave of stone shards, already calculating his evasion path. But the earth didn’t erupt. Instead, the ground beneath his feet turned instantly viscous.
"What the-?"
Jayden’s boots sank into suddenly liquid earth up to his ankles. He instinctively tried to leap free, but the ground solidified faster than even his enhanced reflexes could react. The sensation was like being trapped in concrete - no amount of strength could break him free.
His head snapped up just in time to see the Smasher charging, its eye alight with predatory triumph.
[JAYDEN!] Luna’s warning came a millisecond too late.
BAM!
The beast’s fist connected with Jayden’s temple with the force of a wrecking ball. The impact shattered his footing, tearing his legs free from the earth even as it sent him flying across the clearing. Jayden’s world became a blur of sky and ground as he tumbled violently before crashing through a thick oak. Wood splintered as the trunk snapped in half, Jayden’s body finally coming to rest in a heap of broken branches.
[-75 HP]
The system announced coldly.
Jayden spat out a mouthful of blood and what might have been a tooth. His enhanced healing was already working overtime to repair the damage, but the throbbing in his skull remained. Across the battlefield, the Smasher stood panting, its body a tapestry of wounds but its spirit unbroken.
"Okay," Jayden admitted, wiping blood from his lips as he slowly rose to his feet. "Maybe I’ve underestimated you a bit."
The admission tasted bitter in his mouth. His earlier confidence now seemed like dangerous arrogance. This wasn’t just some mindless beast - it was a cunning predator that had adapted to his fighting style and turned his own overconfidence against him.
Jayden inhaled sharply and beckoned for the Smasher to attack him. But the beast didn’t move. It remained on a spot, it’s breathing increasing with every passing second.
Then unexpectedly, it roared. Letting out a piercing sound that shook the entire forest.
Jayden felt the intensity of the roar, but hat was the least of his worries. The D-Rank Smasher didn’t just roar, it changed.
It’s muscles bulged, veins throbbing beneath its obsidian fur as its body underwent a terrifying metamorphosis. Its wounds sealed shut in seconds, the flesh knitting together with grotesque squelching sounds. Steam rose from its heaving form, its crimson eyes burning with renewed, unhinged fury as it locked onto Jayden.
Jayden chuckled, rolling his shoulders. "So it’s been holding back this whole time."
[Seems like it,] Luna agreed. [But you’ve also been holding back. I think it’s time you stopped as well. Transform and finish this now]
Jayden shook his head, his golden eyes gleaming with defiance. "I can’t do that, Luna. If I keep depending on my transformations, then I won’t get better on my own. And if a time comes where I can’t use these transformatioms, I’ll be useless."
He took a battle stance, his Adamantine knuckleclaws sliding out with a wet schlick.
"I have to defeat this beast on my own... without any transformation."
Luna sighed. [Fine. Just don’t get yourself killed trying to play ’cool MC]
Jayden smirked, modifying the rest of his skeleton into Adamantine. "I don’t need to play cool MC. I’m already one."
Then, he charged.
