Chapter 121: D-Rank Tremor Gator

The forest was alive with tension.

Jayden’s boots sank slightly into the damp earth as he stepped into a wide clearing, the air thick with the musky stench of reptiles and the metallic tang of blood. The trees here were ancient, their gnarled roots twisting from the ground like the fingers of buried giants. Sunlight filtered through the dense canopy in fractured beams, casting shifting patterns of gold and shadow across the battlefield.

Jayden ventured forward, looking for any beast in the area. But he didn’t have to wait long.

A low, rumbling hiss slithered through the undergrowth. Then another. And another.

Five massive shapes emerged from the murk... E-Rank Tremor Gators, each the size of a small car, their armored hides glistening like wet slate. Their yellow eyes, slit-pupiled and predatory, locked onto Jayden with cold, calculating hunger. Saliva dripped from their serrated jaws, their thick, muscular tails twitching in anticipation.

Jayden exhaled slowly, rolling his shoulders. His claws extended with a sharp *shink*, the razor edges catching the light.

"Alright," he murmured, a feral grin tugging at his lips. "Let’s make this quick."

The lead Gator moved first.

With a thunderous crunch of snapping underbrush, it lunged, its massive bulk hurtling forward like a living battering ram. Jayden sidestepped at the last possible instant, feeling the rush of displaced air as the beast’s jaws snapped shut inches from his face. His claws raked across its flank in retaliation...

SHIIIINK!

Sparks flew as his claws screeched against its rock-like hide, leaving deep grooves but failing to pierce fully.

It’s skin was tough.

The Gator whipped its tail around—Jayden flipped over the attack, landing just as the second Gator slammed its clawed foot down, shaking the earth. The ground ruptured, fissures spreading like spiderwebs. Jayden leapt again, avoiding the shockwave, but the third Gator was already airborne, jaws gaping wide—

CRUNCH!

Jayden twisted, barely avoiding the snap of its maw, and drove his elbow into its snout with a bone-jarring crack. The Gator reeled, but the fourth one charged from his blind spot—

WHAM!

Jayden took the hit, the impact sending him skidding back, his feet digging trenches into the dirt.

He grinned. "Alright, let’s get serious."

His muscles coiled, and then... he vanished.

Jayden reappeared above the first gator, his claws plunging into the weak spot behind its skull. Then he twisted...

Crunch.

The beast went still. Dead.

The second gator swung its tail at Jayden... but he caught it mid-motion, his grip vice-like, and hurled the beast into the third. They collided in a tangle of scales and snapping jaw. Before they could recover, Jayden blurred forward, his claws slashing in an X-pattern across their throats.

SLASH!

Both their bodies fell to the ground, lifeless.

The fourth gator roared, charging with it’s jaw snapping. Jayden ducked low, his claws ripping upward it’s gut...

Shllkk!

The beast collapsed, entrails spilling.

The last tremor gator hesitated, sensing death. It turned it’s heel and bolted.

Jayden flashed a feral grin. "Too late."

He sprinted, leapt, and slammed his claws

downward, impaling the Gator’s skull straight through its brain. It twitched once, then stilled.

[+150 exp received]

[5 E-Rank Beast Crystals have been added to inventory]

Jayden exhaled, shaking the gore from his claws. Five E-Rank Tremor Gators—slaughtered in under a minute. He proceeded to put their corpses in his inventory.

Then as he turned to leave—a low snarl came from behind.

He whirled.

Emerging from the shadows was another Tremor Gator, but unlike the ones Jayden had just defeated, this was larger. Twice the size. Its scales were darker, thicker, like slabs of reinforced steel. Its eyes burned with primal intelligence.

Jayden activated Dragon Eye.

______

*Name: Tremor Gator

*Rank: D

*Abilities: None

*Hp: 320/320

______

The beast didn’t possess an ability, this was a good thing for Jayden. He wouldn’t have to go through much trouble.

The gator charged.

Jayden dashed to meet it, his claws gleaming. He ducked under a tail lash and swiped his claws at it’s side.

CLANG!

His strike rebounded off its hide, his claws barely scratching it.

"Shit! I can’t cut through."

He gritted his teeth in frustration, but didn’t have time to linger.

The Gator swung its tail—Jayden blocked, but the force sent him skidding back, his arms numb.

He knew the weak spot of the tremor gator... its underbelly. But the Gator was smart. It stayed low, its belly pressed to the ground, denying him any opening.

Jayden circled it, analyzing.

The Gator lunged, jaws snapping. Jayden flipped over it, landing behind—but the beast whipped its tail upward, catching him in the ribs.

CRACK!

Jayden grunted, rolling with the impact. He regained footing, wiping blood from his lip.

"Alright, new plan." he muttered, already devising another strategy.

The next time the Gator charged, Jayden

ducked, grabbed its tail, and with a guttural roar, heaved the massive beast into the air.

The Gator flailed, exposing its soft underbelly.

Jayden leapt, claws outstretched...

SWISH.

He delivered a single, horizontal slash to it’s underpart... from neck to gut.

RIIIIP!

Blood fountained as the Gator’s underbelly splitted open midair. It let out a loud grunt and crashed to the ground, lifeless.

Jayden landed on the ground softly, letting out a sigh. He received the appropriate exp but didn’t acquire beast’s energy. So he stored the it’s crystal and corpse in his inventory.

He turned to leave—then froze.

He was getting a feeling of being... watched.

His head snapped to the side—and his eyes spotted it.

Hidden in the trees, 50 meters away was a pair of glowing eyes. But Jayden couldn’t see it’s body.

He quickly activated Dragon eye’s energy detection, and a pulsing aura erupted amidst the eyes. And then he got a clearer view. It was massive, with brown fur and large fists.

An Earth Smasher.

The beast’s eyes widened in shock as it noticed Jayden’s gaze locked directly on it’s being. It didn’t expect him to sight it’s presence from so far away.

Without wasting time, it bolted, leaping from tree to tree with terrifying speed.

But as it took its first leap... Jayden eyes caught something... a scar. A long, jagged slash across its chest—

Jayden’s eyes widened in realization... it was the Earth Smasher he’d encountered the first time he came to the forest. The same one that stole the Howler Alpha’s corpse and his chance to receive a cool ability.

Jayden’s fists clenched. His lips peeled back in a snarl.

"You’re not getting away this time."

He crouched slightly, determination burning inside him.

Then he exploded into the trees, chasing the energy signature of the fleeing beast.

He had gotten a chance at retribution... and he was going to take it.
