Chapter 784: An Unexpected Incident

"Ronan," called Arielle, and Ronan took a deep breath.

"Yes, Sweetheart?’

Ronan glanced back at Arielle’s thin hands gripping the back of his robe.

"How did you get here? And... since when?" Arielle asked with a confused look.

Ronan touched his wife’s hand and kissed it gently. The man let go of Arielle’s hand from his robe and sat near the bathtub. They didn’t need warm water to bathe in Thebis, because what they needed was cold water.

Ronan thought for a moment. His hands splashed the water in the tub. His finger then played with the fabric of the girl’s dress floating on the water.

"Since the first day you boarded this ship. I never returned to the palace."

"Since the first day? But why didn’t you tell me?" asked Arielle dejectedly.

If Arielle had known Ronan had been on the ship with her since the first day, perhaps she could have hugged the man, and she wouldn’t have to hold back her longing.

"At first, I wanted to tell you from the first day. However, seeing you from a distance was really exciting. Besides, only William, Lucas, and the other four knights knew that I boarded the ship. Prince Khaled didn’t know I was here, and I hoped what happened earlier didn’t reveal my whereabouts."

Ronan explained the reason he didn’t tell Prince Khaled about this. When he was in the port city, he exchanged clothes with one of the knights who had almost the same posture as him. And that knight was sent back to the capital while he boarded the ship with Arielle and the others.

Ronan didn’t fully trust Prince Khaled or the troops on this ship. And now he had to make sure Prince Khaled didn’t overhear what was happening.

"And I must immediately meet William to check some witnesses. I’ll come back and explain everything in detail. And as for Alexis... I’ll make sure to check it. You calm down first."

Arielle wished Ronan would stay beside her. However, she didn’t want to ruin the man’s plans. This was all her fault. If only she had not chased the mysterious man, she would not have fallen into the sea. However, Arielle didn’t regret it as it made her know two things. It was possible that Alexis was still alive... and she knew that Ronan was also here.

After Ronan left, Arielle cleaned herself up and changed into warmer clothes.

The door of her room then was knocked. Lucas brought her a new blanket.

"Your Majesty, the King told me to change your bed. And... Prince Khaled wants to talk to you."

Arielle fixed her clothes, so they covered her chest. She also draped a towel on her shoulders so that the water dripping from her hair wouldn’t wet her clothes. Arielle then walked to the door and greeted Prince Khaled who was waiting for her outside.

"Good evening, Your Majesty. I heard that you fell into the sea. I would like to apologize for my negligence in taking care of you. I will reflect on this and punish the guards who looked after you."

"No need, Prince Khaled!" Arielle responded quickly by waving her hand to tell the man not to punish anyone.

"This was purely a mistake on my part. I wasn’t careful enough when I walked. This was my carelessness. You don’t need to apologize."

"I promised King Ronan to always take care of you, but I even left you in such a dangerous situation."

"You don’t need to worry. One of my knights immediately came to my aid. I also have no wounds. Everything is alright. Please don’t make this incident a burden."

Prince Khaled shook his head. "I feel ashamed for being negligent, Your Majesty. If only the guards from Thebis were there, you wouldn’t have to experience this. I am ashamed because it was I who promised to look after you, but it was the knight of Northendell who was quicker to help you. I couldn’t imagine if there weren’t such outstanding knight. Allow me to thank the knight."

"Uh... well, I’ll pass it on to him then."

"Do you need anything, Your Majesty? I want to compensate for this carelessness so that you feel better. We’ll be together for the next few days, I don’t want to create an awkward atmosphere between us."

"For now, I don’t need anything, Prince Khaled. I might need to rest a bit because I’m still shocked by what happened."

Prince Khaled nodded in understanding. "If you have anything you desire, please just tell me directly, Your Majesty. I’ll gladly fulfill it. I owe you a lot."

"Oh, no... don’t be like that, Prince Khaled. You don’t need to think of this as a debt."

"I insist, Your Majesty."

Arielle was at a loss for words. She couldn’t refuse the kindness Prince Khaled had shown. She lowered her hand and smiled, accepting the prince’s kindness. "Very well, Prince Khaled. I will tell you if I need something."

Prince Khaled finally smiled with relief, then asked Arielle’s permission to leave, so the Queen could go back to rest. Arielle went back into her room. Lucas had finished replacing her wet bed with a new one.

"Lucas, are you all right?" asked Arielle who just remembered that Ronan had threatened the man.

"Your Majesty, I should be the one asking that. I was really worried about you. When you fell earlier, it felt like my heart stopped beating, Your Majesty."

"Ah... sorry-sorry! I had no intention of causing such a fright again. I’m really sorry."

"Your Majesty..."

Arielle held Lucas’ hand and gave him a reassuring smile. Lucas’ face blushed. He then lowered his head apologetically as he had to leave the room, because he also had to prepare new clothes for Ronan.

After Lucas left, Arielle sat on the bed, waiting for Ronan in her room. The girl drew the curtain of the window to look outside. She waited patiently for news about Alexis. She hoped that what she saw was just a hallucination.

But why Alexis? If she were hallucinating, why didn’t Ronan’s face, the one she missed so much, appear instead of Alexis? Or at the least, Archie. Why did it have to be Alexis, who Arielle almost forgot about his existence? If Alexis was still alive... who else might be alive?
