Chapter 563: The Awkwardness Between Siblings

Arielle smiled briefly and glanced at Ronan who didn’t seem bothered by his sister’s request.

"But, your father wants you to stay here. Why don’t you want to be here? Here, you will have many friends. We can also eat delicious food any time," Arielle said, trying to persuade Irene.

Irene still shook her head. "But I want to be with my father. What if Darui comes back and brings my father back to the werewolf territory? What if they come and kidnap me again and take me to Birwick?"

Arielle now understood Irene’s worries. She shifted her position to face Irene.

"Irene... now you can let go of all your worries. Darui is gone, and so are the werewolves who will kidnap you. Your brother and I will always be the first to protect you and your father. After all, we are now family."

Irene still looked firm with her answer. Then, she looked down, feeling intimidated by the gaze of the man in front of her. What should she do? If she refused, would something happen to her and her father?

Bad thoughts flooded Irene’s head again. She still hadn’t completely escaped from her trauma of the werewolf clan. As a slave, Irene didn’t dare to refuse because she knew the consequences. They would torture her if she dared to voice her opinion.

Irene nodded her head obediently. Arielle and Ronan clearly could see that the answer was not from the girl’s heart, but because Irene thought it was what Arielle wanted, and she had to obey it.

Arielle turned to Ronan, but the man averted his gaze instead. Ronan had no experience talking to children. Sasha was more courageous and often started a conversation first, so Ronan could talk with the red-haired boy occasionally.

Meanwhile, Irene was very passive. The girl was much more clumsy than Arielle when they first met. Arielle was lack of confident in the past, but at least she still had the courage to speak, while Irene could only keep silent and obey other people’s words, even though it was not what she wanted.

"Alright, how about you stay here for a few days first? If you really don’t want to live here, you can stay with your father," Arielle said, making Ronan raise his eyebrows in confusion.

He was really confused why his wife let Irene go with his father? It was very clear that Arthur wanted Irene to stay here to learn to find her true self again as a princess.

"Is that true?" Irene asked with sparkling eyes.

Arielle nodded. "Yes. If for the next four days you still want to live with your father, then I won’t force you."

Irene wanted to smile and hug Arielle to thank her, but she remembered that someone else was sitting with them right now. Then, she chose to lower her head again.

Ronan felt like a dagger struck in his chest when he saw his sister, the Princess of Northendell, who was supposed to be standing confidently with her chin raised, could only look down with a hunched back.

Arielle didn’t want to force her will on Irene. She wanted to get closer and gain the girl’s trust in the right way. Seeing her husband’s furrowed brows, Ronan might be wondering why Arielle had let Irene go.

She would explain everything later.

Arielle then invited Irene to take a walk around the palace. She also invited Ronan to follow her. First, Arielle explained about the Blackthorn Palace where Ronan lived and carried out his activities as a king. Second, she took Irene to the main hall where there were several paintings of the previous kings and queens all over the walls leading to the hall.

Arielle stopped in front of a painting of a woman wearing the same white dress and crown that she wore in her portrait as well.

"She is your mother, Her Majesty Queen Zoe Parker."

"Zoe?" Irene asked confusedly, remembering that her father had told her to use that name while they were out of Birwick.

Arielle nodded. "Yes. the same name as the one you used when you introduced yourself to me," she answered, trying to remind Irene.

The little girl’s mouth opened slightly and stared in awe at the painting in front of her longer. "My mother... is a queen?" she asked in a very low voice, but Ronan could hear her well.

Was this the moment when Irene realized that she was really a royal princess? Did knowing that her older brother was a king not enough to prove that she was a princess?

Irene gently tugged on the sleeve of Arielle’s dress. She wanted to ask something.

"Yes?" Arielle replied while bending her back slightly. She knew that Irene was still shy. Thus, she drew closer to the child so that Irene could feel more comfortable.

"Is... that my father?" Irene asked while pointing at the painting of Arthur wearing his royal uniform, holding a sceptre and orb with a fairly large crown on his head.

"Of course. That’s your father," answered Arielle, making Irene fall silent again.

Irene looked at the two paintings in front of her with amazement. The resemblances between Irene and the late queen Zoe were pretty much, starting from the shape of the face, eyebrows, nose, iris color to the shape of the lips. They were exactly the same as the late queen. The difference was Irene had a sharp gaze that she inherited from her father, and she had a small mole on her left cheek.

Arielle looked back at where her husband was following them patiently. She gave a warm smile, which Ronan replied with a smile as well. The man must have had the same thoughts that his little sister was very similar to his mother.

Arielle waited patiently behind until Irene turned to her. She understood that Irene wanted to tell her something. Thus, she lowered her head slightly so that the girl could whisper to her ear.

"Am I really her daughter?" Irene asked hesitantly. She still couldn’t believe what she saw because the woman in the painting was very beautiful. Irene had never seen her mother, so she didn’t know if she was really the daughter of the woman in the painting or not.

"Of course. You are also very beautiful, like the late queen. You are definitely her daughter," Arielle replied.
