Chapter 534: Arielle Did It

Arielle hugged the flower while walking limply. Otis looked at the girl’s back with mixed feelings while Maxieno looked at Arielle in annoyance. He had sacrificed many of his dragon members. He didn’t want to let his efforts and sacrifices be in vain just because that damn flower withered.

Arielle walked down the path to the part of the forest where the souls of Princess Cecil and Amadea met. Tears were still falling from her eyes. She felt so useless. With limp steps and head bowed deeply, Arielle could only walk with resignation.

She couldn’t keep her promise to Ronan. Her last hope had withered, and there was no other way to lift Ronan’s curse. Every step she took felt very heavy because of her grief.

The trees Arielle passed became bigger and taller. The roots of the tree were even taller than her body. The only things guiding her way were the beautiful fireflies. It looked dazzling even though their light was faint. The wind blew from behind her. Arielle had arrived at a small flower field that shone by the silver moonlight.

Arielle stopped being afraid to go in there. It was the core of Birwick Mountain, which was forbidden for any creature to enter. Arielle stood there like a fool with tears brimming from her eyes. She was still carrying the sacred flower that had withered in her hands.

Arielle’s cries suddenly stopped when a white shadow walked past her from behind. The white dress fluttered solemnly because of the wind. The figure of the woman with long white hair passed Arielle just like that, as if she wasn’t there.

The woman sat on a pile of flowers gracefully and then took out her flute. The song she played felt very familiar, but Arielle was sure she had never heard it before. Then, a giant black wolf approached the woman who was playing the flute and then rested his head on the woman’s lap.

The rhythm of the flute was very soothing. Arielle was lulled by it, and she unconsciously joined in singing. She was pretty sure she had never heard the song, but it felt like her body was telling her that she had known the song her whole life. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

Suddenly, the flute’s rhythm stopped. Arielle opened her eyes and approached the very beautiful woman who was looking at her gently. The black wolf also raised his head to look at Arielle who was still standing in her place. Arielle’s embrace on the withered red snowdrop grew stronger.

The woman’s white hand reached out as she asked Arielle to come closer. Arielle wanted to run away, but the woman’s gentle smile was really reassuring, making all her worries instantly flee.

Arielle stepped closer. When the soles of her feet touched the flowers, her body suddenly felt very light, as if she was floating. The glass shield she was holding fell to the ground and shattered into pieces, but Arielle was lulled by the strange things to care about it anymore.

Arielle sat on the scattered flowers, and the woman’s soft hand touched her cheek. The softness of the hand somehow also touched Arielle’s heart and calmed the flames in her burning body. It was like magic. Arielle was immersed in the blue irises of the woman in front of her that sparkled beautifully.

"Arielle," the woman called. Arielle’s heart was beating very fast. The woman’s touch was like the touch of a mother calming her child.

"I’ve been waiting for you for a long time. I miss you," the woman said.

The big wolf had transformed into a man. This was the first time for Arielle to see a human figure of... Amadea. The man had red eyes with black hair as black as night, while the woman beside her had white hair as bright as the moonlight.

The two of them were Princess Cecillia and the Guardian of Birwick Mountain, Amadea.

Cecil held Arielle’s hand then hugged her gently. A warmth enveloped her with a miraculous feeling. Arielle felt like she was hugging her own mother. It was warmer and softer than Tania’s embrace.

"Our little snowdrop is all grown up," Cecil said, making Arielle frown.

Amadea approached then hugged Cecil and Arielle at once, making Arielle frown. She did not understand why Princess Cecil and Amadea suddenly hugged her like they had a great longing.

The two of them released their embrace. Cecil held Arielle’s hand on the left, and Amadea held her hand on the right. Seeing Amadea being so gentle confused Arielle.

"You must be confused, right?" asked Cecil and Arielle answered with a nod of her head.

"Arielle, you are our snowdrop flower. Our hope and the proof of our love. You are the daughter we have always been waiting for."

"Daughter?"

"Close your eyes for a moment," Cecil asked.

Cecil put his forehead on Arielle’s, and numerous memories instantly entered her head. She never saw that scene. Arielle tried to dodge the flames when she saw a burning forest, then she saw a pregnant woman humming the same song as the song Arielle had heard earlier.

The fragments of memory changed to a woman who ran away from the knights. Then, she let her little daughter flow in the river and stole another baby. The woman ran again until several arrows pierced through her body, and the dead baby fell to the ground. Instantly, huge flames engulfed the troops again and turned them into piles of ash and sand.

The baby was then raised by two poor couples. The child married and gave birth to a son with the same white hair color, then the boy married and had another son who was similar to his father, then the boy married and had a daughter who also had a son. All of them had the same trait. White hair.

Every single person always gave birth to a child who had the same trait, but only one of each offspring carried the blood of Princess Cecil. The cycle continued until a daughter named Arielle was born.

Arielle blinked a few times. "You are our daughter," Cecil and Amadea said at the same time.

"B-but, what about the withered flower..."

Cecil smiled, seeing Arielle’s confusion. Arielle immediately understood. The snowdrop flower was not the key to lift Amadea’s curse. In one of the fragments of memory that Cecil gave to Arielle, the snowdrop flower was their name for the baby in Cecil’s womb.

Arielle looked at her hand. She came to understand the reason her blood mixed with snowdrop flowers could calm Amadea’s curse on Ronan’s body. Because in her blood still flowed Cecil’s blood. Arielle was not only the chosen child of the Moon Goddess, but she was also one of the descendants of Princess Cecillia of the Birwick Kingdom.

Arielle covered her mouth in disbelief. She almost started crying again, but she held it in.

"Then, what should I do? Isn’t that flower for—"

"Shhh... you are the cure for the wound," Cecil said as she turned to Amadea.

Amadea smiled. The man looked very gentle. It was different from the part of him that had scolded her back then. Now Amadea turned to Arielle while stroking the girl’s face gently.

"I’m sorry if part of me had scolded you," said Amadea.

"There was only anger on him. I’ve always wanted to meet you in person. Now that I’ve seen how our little snowdrop grows up beautifully, I can rest in peace," said Amadea, turning to Cecil.

"You’re not mad anymore?" Cecil asked again.

Amadea shook his head. "How can I still be mad after seeing my daughter?"

Cecil and Amadea turned back to Arielle and hugged the girl together. Arielle’s tears trickled down on her cheeks. They just wanted to see their daughter. Amadea and Princess Cecil were separated cruelly, and Amadea just wanted to see his daughter again.

Arielle raised her hand and hugged the two of them back.

"I’m sorry, I came late," said Arielle, making Cecil and Amadea smile.

"No, we should be the ones thanking you. Thank you for coming. We’ve been waiting for you for a long time."

Amadea kissed Arielle’s left cheek, and Cecil kissed her right cheek.

"Now we can leave in peace. There’s nothing stopping us from leaving anymore."

Cecil and Amadea smiled at each other. "We will be together forever without anyone being able to separate us again," said Amadea. Cecil rested her head on Amadea’s chest while closing her eyes.

Fireflies surrounded their bodies. Arielle stretched out her hand, wanting to talk some more with them.

"Arielle, I’ve erased my anger. You can come back," said Amadea in a voice that echoed throughout the forest. In an instant, everything turned dark. The bright moonlight suddenly dimmed, leaving Arielle sitting alone on a pile of beautiful flower fields.

Suddenly, there was the sound of birds chirping. While Arielle was busy daydreaming, a morning light shone on the side of her face. Arielle turned to the side and saw that dawn had arrived. It felt like she had only spoken to Princess Cecil and Amadea for a few minutes, but why was it already morning? How long had Arielle been sitting there alone?

Someone cleared his throat, making Arielle turn around. Otis stood while leaning on a wooden stick. The man tilted his face. He cried while smiling brightly.

"Arielle, you did it," Otis said, feeling very moved.
