Chapter 516: Deal With The Dragon

Huh? What did Maxieno mean? Arielle didn’t understand what the man had said at all.

"I saw it. I read Abigail’s mind. She begins to feel that the pain is unbearable, and that there is not much time to wait for the birth of her children. Abigail feels she would not last long. Three weeks of dragon age only feels like a few minutes."

Arielle shook her head. She couldn’t accept this. Abigail must have held on to the end.

"Abigail had promised me to endure to the end to see her children. This is so unfair to her!"

Maxieno snapped Arielle’s hand harder, then he growled furiously. "Who do you think is responsible for Abigail’s miserable life? Who was the human who killed her mate, the one who should have been there and protected her from the very beginning of her pregnancy? Who do you think made Abigail have to hold her pregnancy longer than other females? Ten years! Abigail wanted to see her children without going through the incubating process because she knew that no male could protect her! No mate would do anything for her."

Arielle looked down. The answer was only one. Because Ronan had killed Xavier, Abigail’s mate.

"I forbade her to hold her pregnancy for this long, but Abigail was quite stubborn. She even dared to argue with me, the clan leader. I gave her advice on her survival, but she wanted something else. If your lowly husband didn’t kill Xavier, maybe Abigail could lay her eggs peacefully right now. Remember, Arielle... this is all your husband’s fault, and you have to take responsibility for it!" said Maxieno who still hadn’t let go of his hand on Arielle’s.

The red light wrapped around their wrists was a sign of their promise. If Arielle agreed, then it would be perfectly sealed.

"Why flames? I’ve never incubated eggs before," replied Arielle, making Maxieno burst out laughing.

"Are you stupid?" Maxieno asked. It made Arielle almost offended, but she calmly let the man insult her as he pleased.

Arielle was honest by saying that she didn’t know how to incubate eggs. In the South, she used to have several chickens that she kept as pet, and she saw the hen sitting on the eggs until the eggs hatched. Arielle wasn’t sure if she should do that too or not.

"The dragon eggs are something very mysterious," said Maxieno. "No one can incubate another egg other than the female. Thus, the female dragons often keep their eggs for a long period of time in their stomachs so that they can simultaneously incubate their eggs in the body," he continued.

Maxieno then explained that not many females were able to maintain their pregnancy for more than six years. After that, they usually laid eggs and incubated them from the outside. Thus, during the incubation process, the male played an important role because the female couldn’t let go of their warmth at all.

It was also the reason Abigail didn’t want to incubate outside. She tried to keep her eggs in her womb, so they didn’t come out prematurely. And even ten years later, Abigail still maintained her pregnancy even though her body was very weak.

Abigail used to be a warrior. Together with Xavier, they hunted until at the age of eighteen Abigail got the name The Hunt after her name. It became Abigail The Hunt. Meanwhile, Xavier got the name The Blue Fire, and it became Xavier The Blue Fire. At that moment, they immediately knew that they were mates, and without waiting long they spent time together, perfecting their mate bond.

Until several hundred years passed and exactly ten years ago, Abigail was left by Xavier and fought alone. Fighting alone exhausted her. Maxieno could see that his gallant female warrior had lost her fire. When Maxieno’s eyes met Abigail’s, the woman no longer had the power to just cover her head so that he could read all of Abigail’s thoughts like an open book.

"Then, what should I do?" Arielle asked in confusion.

"I feel it, Arielle. When you were burned and I caught you, your flames were as hot as Abigail’s. I’m sure the eggs that Abigail is about to leave behind, you can help them hatch."

"But..."

"Arielle, I don’t need that head of the werewolf clan leader. I’ll help you save your sister-in-law on the condition that you take care of Abigail’s eggs."

"What if I can’t do it?"

Maxieno glanced at Arielle’s hand, then smirked. "If you can’t do it, then your descendants will do it. If your descendants can’t do it, then your next descendants will do it. This seal of promise will last until any of your descendants can do it."

Arielle shook her head. She didn’t want that. She didn’t want to burden her descendants with anything. Arielle didn’t want to. How about Ronan? She didn’t want to take any rash steps, so she should ignore Maxieno’s offer. Maybe she should follow Otis’ way of solving problems. Arielle changed her mind. She would do it by negotiation.

Asking Maxieno for help was the same as burying herself underground.

"I don’t want to throw any responsibility on my descendants. This sounds weird. Instead of forcing something that doesn’t work, why not find a way to keep Abigail alive and incubate the eggs?" Arielle asked as she removed Maxieno’s hand from hers.

"You think it’s that easy?"

"Ah! Just use the potion Otis gave me for my wounds earlier! Otis said it was an elixir that could heal all diseases and wounds, right? We’ll just give it to Abigail to get back to health!"

"Huh? It’s just the Elixir of immortality that the unicorn clans have. Indeed, they are known to be effective for all diseases and wounds, but they cannot cure depression. Even though Abigail is from the dragon clan, she can also feel depression. Living alone for years on the outskirts of the forest must have been stressful and depressing. I can see the side of Abigail’s head, and I have made sure there’s not even a glimmer of light there," said Maxieno, trying to make Arielle feel guilty again.

"But I can’t sacrifice my children if I fail to do it."

"Then, you have to successfully do it! Even when it takes decades, you have to do it!" Maxieno’s insistence made Arielle shake her head again.

She was getting more and more uncomfortable being pushed like this. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to help Abigail, but the promise she had to make with Maxieno was too heavy.

"I will forgive you humans and help you get back Amadea’s heart. That is my last offer," said Maxieno, making Arielle silent.

"What do you mean?"

"After you steal the blood snowdrop flower from the werewolf clan, you will release the curse of Amadea from the descendants of Theodore, right? After that, you and Otis are planning to take back Amadea’s heart which was taken away by Cecil. Am I right?" Maxieno asked, and Arielle nodded her head.

Even though Otis didn’t say all his plans, Maxieno knew all about what they would do because before Otis taught Arielle how to protect her thoughts, Maxieno had already read it when the girl tried to protect Otis from his flames.

"You think Northendell’s army can do it? Or do you think the power that Otis taught is enough? If you agree, then I will gladly be your teacher. I will teach you how to control and release flames that are much stronger than Amadea’s flames."

Maxieno smiled, looking at Arielle who was deep in thought. With a little more encouragement, the girl would definitely accept the request. Maxieno then said that Amadea’s flames were only a form of blessing from the Sun God. Amadea became the God of Birwick Mountain simply because the Sun God wanted it. However, the flames the dragons had were much hotter, bigger, and suffocated than that damned wolf.

If Amadea’s flames were able to burn the entire forest and humans, then the dragon’s flames were able to melt humans to their bones.

"Arielle, isn’t Abigail your friend?" Maxieno asked. It made Arielle look up again.

"Y-yes."

"You can record again the history between humans and dragons. By helping Abigail’s eggs hatch, then you prove that not all humans are bad to other dragons, and I can convince them to start working with humans for a greater good," said Maxieno, making Arielle gulp.

Now Arielle’s hand returned to grip Maxieno’s hand.

"I have a lot of respect for Abigail. But, why do you want me to do it so badly?" she asked curiously.

"I told you before, your flames have the same potential as Abigail’s. Besides... I’m just an uncle hoping to see the faces of my nephews," Maxieno replied.

Arielle took a deep breath. She then nodded. "I’m ready," she exclaimed firmly. It made the flames that coiled in their hands shrink and form a red circular tattoo with a small dragon as a form of the seal that Arielle had made a promise to Maxieno.

"So, my friend Arielle..." said Maxieno while rubbing her hand, waiting for what chaos Arielle would bring to the werewolf clan. "Shall we start talking about the tactics to attack the werewolf clan?"
