Chapter 299: Ronan Is Still Afraid of His Past Trauma

"I know Lazarus is a playboy, but I didn’t think he would be this reckless to have a child without telling us," said William in disappointment.

"Looks like Lazarus doesn’t know. If he had known he had a child, then he would not have gone sailing for a year. Lazarus is an asshole but he’s not that low," continued Kael, defending his friend, Lazarus.

Lucas raised his hand asking for permission to speak.

"Sorry, Your Majesty. But... I remember what happened last year. At that time wasn’t there a woman who asked Lord Lazarus to take responsibility. Do you remember that one?" Lucas asked.

William snapped his fingers as if remembering something. "You are right! But, Lazarus said it was all over and he went back to go sailing."

William tried to tell the events of last year which neither Ronan nor Kael know. The man said that while the two were drinking at a bar before Lazarus returned to go sailing, a woman came up to Lazarus and said that she was pregnant with Lazarus’ child.

At that time, Lazarus stayed for months and the doctor said it was possible for a woman to get pregnant with just one-time intercourse. However, the problem was Lazarus continued to disown the child because he said he always cum outside.

Ronan cleared his throat as William unknowingly spoke something inappropriate when Arielle was there. William, who had just realized his mistake, was also startled. He glanced at Arielle who didn’t seem bothered by their vulgar discussion.

"The point is Lazarus said he wasn’t that drunk to act recklessly," William continued, trying to find a more polite sentence.

"Then? What was Lazarus doing?"

"I don’t know, Ronan. That asshole just begged not to tell you about this matter, and a few days later he was back sailing happily as if there was absolutely no burden left behind."

"Lazarus didn’t say anything else about the child?" Lucas asked.

"He just said that the child the woman was carrying was not his. That is it, and I believe it."

Ronan tried to count the months of Lazarus’ arrival last year to this day. If it was true that this child was the child of the same woman who claimed to be pregnant with Lazarus’s child last year, then the child should have been five to six months old.

"Can anyone estimate the baby’s age?" asked Ronan from his seat.

William and Kael watched the baby closely. Both of them looked confused.

"Tania said this baby might be five to six months old," replied Arielle.

William and Lucas looked at each other. He lifted all his fingers and began to count the number of months in a year, and then added the three months of Lazarus’ arrival to fifteen months and subtracted from the normal nine months of pregnancy. It was six.

"I have a hunch that this is really Lazarus’s child," William said, making everyone in the room even more silent.

As silence swept across the room, suddenly the baby was crying, making William and Kael jump in surprise. Arielle took the initiative to hold the baby again.

"Lucas, can you please wake up Tania in my room to prepare food for the baby? I think this little baby is hungry."

"Very well, Your Highness." Lucas withdrew to leave the room.

Arielle stood up to hold the baby to calm her crying. Ronan had been watching Arielle from behind his mask all this time. He... didn’t really like children, maybe because of his past trauma. Even now he kept his distance as much as possible from the little creature who was crying shrilly.

William covered his ears, unaccustomed to the noise of a child’s crying. Kael who also was uncomfortable with the baby’s whimper, stood facing the king.

"I will leave the room for a moment to inspect the carriage where this baby was found once more."

Ronan said nothing. Kael concluded Ronan’s silence was a yes for him. William also stood up. "Tell Lucas to call me again after the baby doesn’t cry. My head feels like it’s going to explode," William said without asking permission, then went after Kael.

In that room, Arielle, Ronan, and Lazarus’s baby who couldn’t stop crying were left.

"I will go back to my room. I didn’t want to bother you," said Arielle, but Ronan shook his head.

"Stay here," he pleaded.

"But... this baby won’t stop crying until she gets her food. It will only annoy you."

"I said stay here, Arielle."

Arielle sat back down on the couch. The baby was still in her arm with the other hand teasing the baby, trying to make the baby laugh. Ronan turned to face the window.

Seeing Arielle holding a baby made Ronan feel depressed. He recalled his selfish request to the girl not to have a child after they got married, and she graciously accepted his request.

The reason Ronan didn’t want to have children was obvious. He still had fear of the past about how his father treated him when he was little. Ronan was afraid that he would unknowingly turn into a father figure like his late father.

The monster in his body would probably be passed down to his child, and he had to watch his child go through the first transformation process. Ronan had gone through it, and the process of the full moon night when he transformed for the first time was very painful.

His bones seemed to be broken. His skin felt hot like it was being torn apart slowly. He didn’t want anyone else to go through the same horrors he had.

Not to mention if the child failed to turn back to their human form, and lost control in their wolf form. What should Ronan do? Restraining the kid so they could control their human side? Wasn’t that the same as what his father had done to him?

Ronan also didn’t want to be hated by Arielle for having to treat their child like that. Or... what if he lost control and unknowingly hurt his own children the way his father unconsciously killed his own daughter and wife?

Ronan didn’t want to go through that nightmare again.
