Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 246: Making Plans
Archie continued his words, "At that time, Alexis was more and more confident that he would become a real king because if you marry Duke Pellington, then Queen Rosalie could adopt you as her daughter. And so, Duke Pellington’s wealth can add strength to Alexis, while the other princes born from the concubines have nothing to fight Alexis."
"Perhaps stemming from my resentment and long-held grudge, when I found out that Duke Pellington married you because you resembled your mother, I felt disgusted and it made me determined to destroy their plans. You will not marry Duke Pellington, and Queen Rosalie’s family will bear the shame of the annulment of your marriage," Archie said.
He added, "I was practicing my archery in the forest near the two wolves that Duke Pellington had given me to guard. Luckily I met someone unexpected. The man offered me the position of the king of Nieverdell. Just like what Father did, without thinking, I returned his handshake and agreed to everything."
"Who’s the man you met?" asked Arielle.
"Princess, no one on this land can speak that casually other than His Majesty King Ronan," replied Lazarus.
Arielle was confused. Why was Ronan suddenly in the Nieverdell forest? She paused for a moment to remember the last time the man left. Arielle couldn’t remember when Ronan said he was going to the South.
Ah... was it the day before they went to Frostmount Village? It seemed that only then did Arielle not find Ronan in the palace for three days.
"What was he doing here?" Arielle asked Archie in confusion.
Archie just shrugged his shoulders and pretended not to know. Of course, Archie knew what Ronan was doing there because Archie was one of the culprits who killed several guards. Ronan came to kill the wolves. However, Archie had promised to keep his mouth shut. So, he didn’t say anything. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Lazarus shook his head at Archie. "I can’t imagine having a brother like you, Your Highness, selling your own family to become a king."
Archie didn’t seem offended by Lazarus’ words because that was the truth. He just laughed loudly and hugged Arielle.
"After growing up with a family like them, you will understand Lazarus. Our mothers flock to each other to encourage their children to be the best. Being a two-faced person and guarding each other’s false affections, while having a father who is incompetent to be a king or a father, you will understand if you live with us."
Arielle did not say much. She didn’t dare to say it but what Archie said was very representative of how Arielle felt.
"And I used to be one of those losers..." Archie continued.
Lazarus nodded admiringly at Archie’s explanation. Even so, that didn’t erase the fact of what Archie was going to do in the next few days, was an act of coup d’etat.
The door to the room opened, and William returned alone.
"They said that Sasha had indeed received the message. The guards guarding the gates also saw Sasha and Tania enter the palace."
"Maybe he’s just late," said Lazarus.
In the palace, only the walls and palace gates were guarded by the soldiers. All the other soldiers had been mobilized in preparation for the festival night operation. There might have been only two spies remaining in the palace. So Heath said he’s going to the palace bringing some fruit while he picks up Sasha."
Arielle did not understand their discussion. William took out a map of Nieverdell and crossed out the harbour section.
"You and Lazarus make sure again that everyone gets the right stockpile of weapons. We make a defensive move and let the first team be defeated. But make sure again that no one gets killed, understand?" William asked Lazarus and Archie. The two men nodded.
"And when they entered the ship, Lazarus would lead the next troops to surround them. And in this second stage, whether you slaughter them or not, I don’t care. Just make sure they don’t run away to tell the guard post or the palace," William added.
"Everything is ready. Preparation tools have been stored in their respective places. I got the news that today coastal residents are starting to flock to the capital for the night of the festival," Archie said, making William and Kael nod their heads.
"And Kael... for the neutral area of the border with Thebis. I can trust you, right? Don’t let the Eastern Kingdom interfere in this incident."
"Hmm. I’m leaving soon tonight. I will make sure the Cavaleri will meet the harbour group at the same time."
Arielle saw the four of them discussing seriously. Confirming that the infantry had infiltrated and the cavalry was on their way, William rolled up the map again.
"We’re not going to war, are we?" asked Arielle innocently.
Lazarus was ready to open his mouth to answer, but again Kael stomped his feet as a sign that the man should stay silent. William smiled at the princess and turned to Archie.
"How about you, Prince Archie? What answer have you heard from King Hugo?" he asked.
Archie covered his mouth with a blank look. He said, "No matter what happens, I want to behead that rotten northern man and prove that Nieverdell is a sovereign kingdom. I won’t make you a king if you don’t kill Ronan D. Blackthorn."
Arielle’s body stiffened. William patted the princess on the shoulder to calm the girl back down.
"No... is there really no peaceful path?"
"We tried, but it seems this is what your father wants. He wants Ronan dead. We are only on the defensive to defend our king and future queen-to-be."
Arielle removed William’s hand from her shoulder.
"Then... what about all the people here? Not all of them are bad people. Is there no other way but to fight and go to war"
William turned to Archie. "They will be fine. I don’t want to ascend the throne to lead an empty kingdom."
Archie nodded at William. It looked like they had to change the last stage strategy. The entire kingdom would gather in the capital city. Their original plan was to head straight for the palace through the soldiers scattered in the crowd.
"We need to discuss this again with Ronan. Don’t let there be two different commands," said Kael.
William reopened the Nieverdell map and reanalyzed it. They needed a new entrance to reduce the impact of the damage. He had to think of a backup tactic until Ronan arrived. But he did not know when the man had accomplished his mission there.
Arielle could only silently hear them discussing a tactic again. In her head, only a question rang, when Ronan would arrive. Outside the window, the sky was starting to turn orange, a sign that it was getting late and the night was coming.
