Chapter 243: Conversation With Archie

***

Arielle put a spoonful of ice cream into her mouth. If earlier it was Archie who followed her everywhere, now it was Arielle’s turn to follow Archie wherever the man went.

After eating at a restaurant, Archie bought ice cream for his sister. At first, Arielle hesitated, but the vanilla ice cream in front of her looked very tempting.

"Where are you going again?" Archie asked.

"I do not know."

"Then come with me one last time. You can finish your ice cream first."

Arielle just nodded without asking anything. Archie’s treatment this time felt very different. Arielle felt they were starting to bond like real siblings. Even so, Arielle didn’t want to say anything. She was afraid of ruining the atmosphere. Or worse, made them both awkward.

After finishing one bowl of ice cream, Archie invited Arielle to come with him. The two of them walked side by side on the side of the road. Archie lowered his hoodie even further as he saw several horse-drawn carriages passing by. The girl looked at her brother up and down.

If one looked closely, they could see that Archie was not wearing his royal clothes. He only wore a loose shirt with black pants and a thin hooded coat.

The two of them passed the tavern and arrived at an inn. Arielle paused and looked around. She wondered why her brother took her to an inn? But Arielle was not so worried because considering the inn’s owner was one of the northerners who disguised themselves as citizens of Nieverdell. If Archie had bad intentions toward her, Arielle could quickly call for help.

Archie opened the inn’s door and the ringing of the bell was heard above the door, notifying the innkeeper that a new guest had entered.

Arielle looked around her. The inn was very crowded. On the first floor of the inn were many round tables, as well as a bar. And all the chairs and tables were full.

"Why did you bring me here?"

"You want a drink?" he offered.

"N-no. I don’t drink alcohol. Um... I’ll be out for a bit."

Archie pulled Arielle’s body to follow him to the bar. Arielle could feel several eyes were looking at her, and that made her lower her head in embarrassment. A tall slender man greeted her, making Arielle relieved. The man was the innkeeper.

"Is there anything I can help you with?" the man asked kindly.

Archie ordered whiskey, and Arielle shook her head when the innkeeper offered something to drink. Arielle’s stomach was still full of the previous half a Sandwich, then a chicken soup and ice cream that Archie had bought.

"Archie, after this, let’s part ways." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

Archie who was drinking his beverage glanced briefly. "Why? You don’t like accompanying your brother?"

Arielle frowned at that. It was not that Arielle didn’t want to have a good sibling relationship with her brother. But wasn’t it too late? After all, maybe Archie was nice to her just because she was needed.

"I’m going to the port tomorrow. I am doing the preparations to receive the ship carrying the goods the North gives."

Arielle nodded.

"What are you worried about?" Archie asked Arielle. The girl looked restless in her seat. She twirled the skirt of her dress as if there was something she wanted to ask, but the question always got pushed back.

"Huh?"

Archie turned to call the bartender to refill his drink.

"You look restless. Just ask, I’d answer if I knew the answer," Archie said without looking to the side.

The room was very crowded. Several people spoke loudly to each other and some laughed out loud from drunkenness. Some shouted in unison to greet each other.

The inn door chimed again. Arielle turned her head for a moment and saw the man who owned the fruit shop had entered along with several other men. The man lowered his hat to greet Arielle as the two looked into each other’s eyes. Arielle just nodded and turned back to the front.

"I was just worried about... the repercussions if we are too greedy."

Archie chuckled. "Being greedy is not a big sin, Arielle. Selfishness and greed are part of being human. Even if you have lived the life of a saint, there will be times when you want to be selfish."

Arielle didn’t want to agree with Archie’s words, it was just that deep down, she also had a very strong desire. She wanted to return to the North with Tania and Sasha, leaving the South by peaceful means.

Arielle didn’t want anyone to get hurt, even if it was her family, who always hurt her. The girl just wanted to start a new Chapter without any regrets later on.

If it was called selfish, then what consequences would Arielle bear?

"Archie, are you not afraid of karma?"

"Karma? Hm... maybe one day I will get it."

"How could you casually say it?"

Archie was silent. He had no answer for that. Becoming a king was not really his ambition. He just wanted to enjoy the day by opening his eyes, reading a book, drinking alcohol, riding the horses, and going back to sleep again. However, seeing Alexis, who was so ambitious that he saw Archie with disdain, made Archie feel irritated.

Gradually the irritation turned into a grudge. And for Archie, the way to get his revenge was to make Alexis see that Archie was much better than him. Besides, Archie just didn’t want to repeat the cycle of sin that his family committed.

He didn’t want Arielle to marry Duke Pellington. Just looking at that man made Archie want to throw up. Archie had his own trauma to let Arielle get hurt, and Alexis, on the other hand, agreed to the offer given to him without thinking.

"I don’t have an answer for that. I just do what my heart wants," Archie said with a shrug.

Arielle nodded in understanding. "Thank you for answering my questions. I understand now."
