Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 224: Ronan’s Calling
Arielle, Tania, and Sasha were sitting with the other women around a large bonfire in the middle of the village square. Several other village women were preparing dinner together. Tania got up to help them, leaving Arielle and Sasha curled up in a blanket in front of the bonfire.
"So? Are you satisfied playing in the water?" asked Arielle while nudging Sasha’s shoulder.
Sasha nodded with quivering lips. Arielle then wrapped the blanket she was wearing to share with Sasha too. Arielle felt sorry for the child looking at how tired he was after playing all day at the lake.
Sasha didn’t want to get out of the water, even until his lips trembled with cold and his skin was wrinkled. He continued to swim around the lake. Tania called him many times, but Sasha didn’t listen.
Sasha said, after he returned to the North later, there would be no occasion to swim in a lake again. At Northendell all water sources froze unless heated by the priests. There were no lakes where he could swim or rivers for fishing.
Sasha only came out from the water in the afternoon when the women and their daughters came to the lake to clean up after a long day of activities. Seeing the girls made Sasha embarrassed, and so he ran wildly into the forest to get back into his clothes. Remembering that made Tania could not help but keep teasing Sasha.
"I wish Northendell had a swimmable lake. The lake near the mountain had frozen and was as hard as the ground. In the North, I don’t have much opportunity to play in the water. Even bathing in the water can give me a cold."
Arielle smiled and looked at the bonfire in front of her.
"That’s right, at Northendell, there’s not much we can do. Nieverdell has more varieties of fruits and also had an abundance of heat and sunlight. In the North, if we stayed outside the palace long enough, it will make us cold," said Arielle.
"But you really like Northendell, don’t you?" asked Sasha proudly.
Arielle nodded with a laugh. "That’s right, though Nieverdell has it all, I already miss Northendell. Even though it’s quite cold there but the people are really warm, and that’s enough for me to want to go back there."
"Do you miss His Majesty the King?" asked Sasha so suddenly that Arielle coughed. The girl turned her head away when she felt her face start to blush.
Of course, the answer was yes, but Arielle was really embarrassed to say it out loud. Sasha, who saw the princess’s blushing face, chuckled as he covered his mouth.
"Your face is so red!" Sasha said with a laugh.
"N-not really!" Arielle said nervously.
"Come on... just say you miss His Majesty the King..." Arielle immediately covered Sasha’s mouth tightly so that no one would hear what Sasha just said.
None of the women in the village knew Arielle as a princess or about her wedding plans. They only thought of Tania and Arielle as village guests who happened to come back after so many years of not visiting.
Arielle and Tania also didn’t want to be recognized as people from the royal palace of Nieverdell.
Sasha laughed loudly, even though Arielle had covered his mouth. Luckily that night, the women were too busy preparing dinner together that no one noticed them.
Arielle, who couldn’t stand being teased by a small child, got up and grabbed her blanket. Tania had come to join them to grab a plate of turkey cutlets and boiled potatoes for Arielle and Sasha’s dinner.
"Where are you going, princess?" asked Tania, who saw Arielle turn away from Sasha.
"I just wanted to get some fresh air. I’ll be right back," Arielle said as she continued to leave.
She kept walking away from the crowds in the village square. She lowered her head to greet some of the women who had just joined in the field.
The girl looked up to see the moon shining brightly. There were no clouds or fog, so it was a very bright night. Yesterday was a full moon night, and Arielle hoped that Ronan could rest a lot.
Arielle continued walking up the hill, occasionally looking back to see the village crowd was getting smaller. She draped the blanket over both shoulders and hugged the blanket tightly.
Arielle had returned to where she was this afternoon, enjoying the view. For some reason, she felt an urge to go back there. Arielle looked around but found nothing there.
She sat back in the same place. The fireflies flew around her, adding to the light of the night. When Arielle took a deep breath, suddenly, faintly inside her head, a familiar voice called her name.
(Arielle...)
Arielle furrowed her brows and looked back and forth. However, there was no one there.
"Was it just my hallucination?" she muttered.
(Arielle...)
"Ronan?"
Arielle stood up quickly. Her heart was beating very fast as her name echoed in her head again. It felt like Ronan was talking to her in her wolf form.
(Arielle, I miss you.)
"Ronan? Ronan, is that you?" asked Arielle frantically. She saw no one around her.
Arielle wanted to get closer to the voice, but she didn’t know where the direction the voice was coming from. The man’s voice only echoed in her head.
Arielle jogged in the opposite direction. She didn’t know why she could hear Ronan’s voice. All she knew was that it wasn’t a hallucination. Arielle clearly heard the voice as if Ronan was nearby.
(Arielle?)
"Yes! I’m here!" Arielle shouted, looking for the man’s whereabouts.
(I miss you!)
"Me too! Where are you? Ronan, tell me where you are now!"
(The lake) replied the man curtly.
Lake? What was that man doing here? And how did he get to the South in a day? Wasn’t last night a full moon night? Did he not rest his body?
A lot of questions filled Arielle’s head, but they were quickly erased. She could ask later after she met Ronan!
Arielle hurriedly ran towards the lake where she played this afternoon. Because of the lack of light, Arielle fell down when she tripped over a rock. She was not aware of the blisters on her palms and knees that were starting to bleed. She wanted to meet Ronan as soon as possible.
The man was waiting for her at the lake.
"Ack!"
The girl held her hand, which was scratched by the tree trunk. Arielle also lifted her skirt to make it easier to run. After climbing up the hill several times, Arelle finally heard the sound of running water once again.
With panting breath, Arielle arrived near the lake. She fell to the ground, tired of running with a body that was in pain after falling earlier. She looked around but found no one there.
"Ronan!? I-I’m near the lake now! Where are you?" asked Arielle, shouting.
She couldn’t hear any sound. Arielle felt like crying because she almost thought that what she had heard was just a hallucination. She clutched her pounding heart. Her eyes slowly began to water, missing the man terribly.
"Ronan? Am I just hallucinating?" asked Arielle sadly.
The girl looked at her reflection as she realized she looked pathetic on the surface of the water. The moon looked very close, and her tears fell to the lake’s surface.
Slowly the figure of a large wolf with thick black fur showed its existence. It walked closer and stopped behind Arielle’s crying, trembling body.
(I’m here) he whispered softly.
