Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 221: Why Are The Maids Avoiding Arielle?
Arielle put her bowl on top of another plate. His heart skipped a beat when she saw the back door of the kitchen that connected the backyard of the palace and the kitchen. She could faintly hear the laughter of those servants joking among them.
She bit her lip hard to fight her nervousness. Arielle grabbed both sides of her dress and stepped awkwardly out of the kitchen.
"O-Olin!" called Arielle in a trembling voice.
Olin who was stomping the laundry in the wooden basin turned her head towards the kitchen door. Instantly the cheerful atmosphere became quiet when she saw Arielle had appeared behind the door.
Their laughter stopped for a moment as Arielle walked closer. Olin whose name was called immediately bowed her head, trying to avoid Arielle. The woman cleaned her feet and followed Arielle who also walked over.
Several maids there intentionally left Arielle and Olin alone.
"Olin, can we talk for a bit?" Arielle asked Olin.
"But at the moment we are all busy, Princess."
Arielle kneaded her dress. She challenged herself to do this. Over and over, she convinced herself that talking to Olin wasn’t that scary.
"Just a moment," she insisted.
Olin glanced at the other maids who were walking away. They all bowed their heads when they didn’t want to help Olin nor let Arielle talk to them.
The awkward atmosphere made Arielle very uncomfortable. Whereas before she left for the North, they clearly cried over her departure. They all hoped that Arielle could return home quickly. However, now, unexpectedly they changed so fast. Arielle wanted to know what made them avoid her.
"Olin, I-I’m sorry if I did something wrong during our friendship that made you avoid me now."
Olin’s face slowly turned red. She shook her head slowly hoping that Arielle wouldn’t say something like that.
"I don’t know what happened while I was in Northendell. It’s just that as long as I’m in the North, I had never forgotten you. Every day I hoped to see you again, playing and also joking together."
Arielle’s heart was beating very fast. She wasn’t used to being honest with her feelings. Her body was shaking with nervousness. This sensation she felt was almost similar to the one she felt when he expressed her feelings to Ronan.
So far, Arielle preferred to keep everything to herself. So, speaking out loud in front of Olin right now was a new experience for Arielle. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
"So if you guys intend to avoid me forever, can you at least tell me what I did to make you behave like this? I don’t want to be haunted by feelings of guilt forever."
Olin turned away, not daring to look at Arielle. The princess was too innocent to make Olin not have the heart.
"Sorry, Princess. But this is not your fault. So you don’t have to apologize," Olin said.
Arielle got closer then grabbed Olin’s hand and held it tightly.
"Then why are you guys avoiding me?" asked Arielle with tears in her eyes. Olin knew that Arielle would be crying any minute. The girl’s heart was too fragile.
Olin never replied. Arielle’s tears started streaming down her cheeks. Arielle took a deep breath. She rubbed her face roughly with the palm of her hand. She didn’t want to cry but the sadness of losing her old friend really tortured Arielle.
"I’ve always thought of you like sisters. Together with Tania, you took care of me since I was little. You are my playmates. You faithfully taught me many things. I don’t want to end our friendship like this. If it’s allowed, I want us to remain friends."
"No, princess," answered Olin in a very small voice.
"Why not? We used to play together, then how is it different from now?"
Olin released her hand from Arielle’s grip. She touched her shoulder lightly. Before speaking, he glanced at a senior servant who was watching them. The senior servant nodded briefly making Olin let out a long sigh.
"Princess, we are only servants in the palace and you are a princess. It is inappropriate for a royal princess to befriend the servants and palace guards."
"But we’ve been friends for a long time. Why should it matter now?" asked Arielle who didn’t understand.
"We have all heard about the proposal from the kingdom of Northendell for your hand in marriage. If you marry a king then you will be a queen in the future. A queen shouldn’t act too familiar with the maids because that will only make you look bad in the eyes of the other nobles."
Arielle shook her head quickly. That is wrong. Arielle never cared about such things. Whether she was a princess or even a queen, friends were friends. There’s no need to look at their background. For Arielle, if they were sincere with Arielle, she would gladly open her arms to embrace them.
"I don’t care about such things, Olin."
"But we care, Princess. And you will also marry a Northerner. Of course we will never meet again after you get married. So why should we stay friends?"
Olin’s lips slowly trembled. She also felt the same sadness. She had considered Arielle like her own sister. Letting go of Arielle was also very hard. She didn’t want to burden Arielle with the feelings as if they objected to her going to the North forever.
"You have chosen the North as your new home right? Don’t think about us anymore."
"I-I could try asking His Majesty to take you guys with me!" said Arielle who panicked.
Olin shook her head slowly. "Sorry, Princess. We can’t accept that. Nieverdell will always be our home. We will never leave this kingdom."
Arielle took a step back. It was like being slapped by Olin’s words just now. Her face was red from embarrassment. Olin seemed to accuse her of abandoning them by leaving the South.
But, how could she stay here in Nieverdell? She only suffered so much here. Was it wrong to find a better life for herself?
