Chapter 204: Crossing The Borders

Arielle hit her back, which was starting to hurt. The journey to the South took about three to four days by a carriage. However, one day into the journey her body began to ache. The first night of the trip arrived and Arielle chose to close the carriage window tightly because the night was so cold.

She looked at Sasha who fell asleep on Tania’s lap. The old woman was asleep too. Even though the night was very cold, they could sleep soundly. There were only candles to provide lighting in the carriage.

Arielle had tried various positions to fall asleep but she still couldn’t force herself to sleep. The further she left the North, the more anxious she felt. What’s more, they had now entered the border area, where she was attacked by a group of bandits.

Lucas said the bandits weren’t from the North. They were a group of bandits from the neutral territory of the borders of the three kingdoms. Because the area did not have clear authority, criminal acts often occurred there.

Ronan had assigned several guards to protect Arielle through the border of the neutral territory to enter the Nieverdell border safely. The carriage paused to show the Northendell kingdom a letter to the border inspector.

The slightly rocky road made Sasha wake up from his sleep. The child looked adorable in a girl’s dress that looked very suitable for him. His small face with big cheeks didn’t show that he was a boy at all. His haircut could show that he might be a boy, but that could be common either. Many women also cut their hair short like men.

"You can’t sleep?" Arielle asked Sasha, who was rubbing his eyes.

"The road is rocky," he answered shortly. Sasha yawned so wide it made Arielle chuckle. She glanced at Tania, who was still fast asleep.

"Soon, we will be entering Nieverdell territory. The road will be smoother," said Arielle, calming Sasha, who looked restless in his place.

"Have you ever been to Nieverdell, Sasha?"

The boy shook his head slowly. "I’ve never been going anywhere."

"In the South, you will be able to see the sun directly. The atmosphere in the morning, afternoon, and the dusk, will be very bright and dazzling."

The boy’s eyes opened wide. He waved his hands enthusiastically.

"Really, Princess? W-when will I be able to see the sun???" asked Sasha excitedly.

"Hmm.... If tomorrow morning we already enter the Nieverdell area, then we will be able to see the sun." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"Wow.... The sun ..." said the child, happily. His hands were clenched, imagining a small object in the sky that was said to be very bright.

Sasha could never imagine the shape of the sun itself. He could only hear stories from people, who came from outside Northendell, and they said the sky beyond the north was a bright blue. Sasha couldn’t imagine it because all his life, he could only see the grey northern sky.

They also said there would be lots of colorful flowers. Sasha was looking forward to seeing it. So far, he could only see trees with white or dark green leaves. There were not many types of flowers other than white flowers. To Sasha, who listened to their stories, Northendell was a boring place, but he had no choice but to stay. He didn’t have much money to make a new life at another place.

So, when the king offered a royal task to protect Arielle in the South, Sasha did not need to think twice to accept the task. He had protested when Lazarus suggested that he should wear a girl’s clothes, then the king gave him a difficult choice.

Keep wearing girl’s clothes, or he couldn’t go South at all.

And the answer was, of course, he would wear that outfit. His dream of visiting another kingdom was right in front of his eyes, it was impossible for Sasha to just throw it away.

Sasha had learned quite a few things in a short period of time.

The king had conveyed a message to all his spies that a new boy would join. Sasha had also been taught how to communicate with the Northerners. The three red dots in the shape of a triangle were a sign of a direct message from the king. The red dot in the shape of a rectangle was the coordination between fellow spies. Then a red circle signified they had to leave their post.

"Princess, I have been assigned to look after you, so wherever you go, I will always come, along with Tania."

Arielle nodded in understanding. "Thank you, Sasha."

Arielle understood what the boy meant. Sasha looked very excited to come with her. Arielle planned to introduce the child to a lot of things in the South.

The people of Nieverdell had always loved festivals. Almost every month there was always a new festival. On every royal prince and princess’s birthday, there would always be a big festival, with an exception for her birthday. The king and queen’s birthday event also had their own festival. So one day, Arielle would also invite Sasha to come to the Nieverdell people’s festival.

As the carriage’s movement became smoother, Sasha fell back asleep. Arielle herself opened her book and started reading one of the books about mana. Her reading speed was very slow, so she couldn’t finish the book. As she read the part of the mana storage in a certain crystal, Arielle remembered the pendant Ronan had given her.

She looked at her necklace with a warm feeling. The red color reminded her of the color of the king’s eyes. Very beautiful. Arielle put the necklace back into her dress. She didn’t want her siblings to see her wearing jewelry.

They did have much more beautiful jewelry, so they might not be interested in the necklace Arielle was wearing. But it felt strange to show something unusual in her body. Arielle had never worn a necklace before, so it would be awkward when they saw Arielle suddenly wearing a necklace now.
