Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 150: Conversation About Children
"What about you?" Arielle decided to ask back.
"Me? Hm... tough question."
Arielle laughed at Ronan, who was deep in thought. The man easily asked her how many children did she want, but when asked back, the man took a long time to think.
"I’ve always thought about never having a child," answered Ronan honestly.
Arielle was quite surprised by that answer.
A king who didn’t want to have children? Then who would be his heir?
Arielle didn’t really understand the lineage of the nobility, but if Ronan didn’t have any children, then it would be his siblings or relatives’ responsibility to continue. However, Arielle had never seen the man’s family. So, she didn’t know if he had any.
Then what made the man not wanting have a child? Arielle could indeed see how awkward Ronan was with the animals around him. Also, when he was with Sasha, the man gave off an intimidating aura. Arielle remembered the man’s past story. So he might still have trauma from his childhood?
Ronan could see the frown on the girl’s forehead. It looked like Arielle was thinking about the possible reasons why he didn’t want to have children.
"Is it because of what you went through in your past?" asked Arielle, touching the man’s arm gently.
Ronan didn’t answer right away. He noticed the glass window depicted a mother embracing her baby lovingly. After a moment of silence, Ronan nodded.
"I thought that would end this hereditary curse on me. I don’t want my son to feel the same pain I felt when he first turns into a wolf. I don’t want my son to lose his mind on a full moon and then regret what he did the next day."
Seeing Sasha earlier, Ronan believed that a child’s childhood was indeed very precious. If he couldn’t lead Sasha on the right path, the boy would grow up to be a street thug who always steals and would one day commit greater crimes or join a gang of bandits.
Just like that, as a child, he was tortured by the previous king, and now he had grown into a man who was not confident enough to be a good father.
"I’m not sure I’ll be a good father, Arielle. Maybe I would just act like my father the late king and disappoint you later."
"You are a good person, Ronan."
"Only with you," cut Ronan bitterly. "Arielle, I could possibly be someone worse than my father, and my son would be in more torment than I’ve ever been."
Arielle did not immediately reply. The girl looked at the same window then smiled. Arielle released her hand from the man’s grip, then grabbed Ronan’s hand again.
"If you don’t want to have a child, then we don’t need to have a child," said Arielle making Ronan raise his eyebrows in surprise. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"Why?" asked Ronan, confused.
"Why? Didn’t you say you didn’t want to have children?" asked Arielle.
"But that would be just my thoughts. What about you? What do YOU want?"
"I don’t mind. I already said earlier that I hadn’t thought about it either."
Ronan was speechless. He looked at Arielle carefully. He didn’t know whether to be relieved or confused. He was very worried right now. Arielle didn’t want to have a child too?
Fuck! If only he could figure out how to break this damn curse!
Ronan was feeling guilty now. The man needed answers to what was happening to his body. Ronan felt that he was too selfish. Arielle told him she would also not want to have children was also possible because she felt sorry for him.
"Arielle, but if you want to have a child. Just say so. Don’t push yourself to cater to my ego. I... I’ll find a way."
"How?" asked Arielle.
"I don’t know," answered Ronan weakly. The man chuckled, being annoyed, and Arielle gripped Ronan’s arm tighter, making the man turn to Arielle.
Arielle didn’t want to have a child. She just didn’t think about it. Maybe Ronan had other plans for the future. Arielle could trust the man. Tania also didn’t have a child, but she was happy raising Arielle like her own.
Maybe in the future, Arielle would also do the same if Ronan didn’t want to have children until the end. Of course, this discussion might be repeated in the future.
And maybe their condition would someday change. Ronan might manage to find the breakthrough to the curse as the man said. Everything could change. Therefore Arielle didn’t want to be hasty.
Arielle didn’t want Ronan to be overburdened by this. As a king, he still had a lot of work to do.
"Don’t push yourself and don’t be too hard on yourself. We still have Riel and his little family," Arielle said with a small smile making Ronan chuckle.
"You’re right. But Arielle... maybe one day we’ll talk about this again."
Arielle nodded. "I know."
"Thank you for understanding my condition."
Arielle tilted her face to peek through the eye sockets of the mask in front of her. The red irises were sparkling and very beautiful.
"We’re going to be husband and wife, right? I hope you’ll share your burden with me later on," she said gently.
Ronan smiled and stroked Arielle’s cheek affectionately. His heart was pounding with happiness to find a woman he had never thought of. Ronan never thought his life would come to this stage.
He only lived to take care of the kingdom, then in his spare time, he would hunt or train to fight. He thought he would do that for the rest of his life. Arielle’s presence was really a breath of fresh air in his life.
Speaking of marriage, Arielle became curious about what the man had discussed with Priest Elis earlier.
"What were you talking about with Priest Elis just now?" asked Arielle making Ronan forget his doubts about having a child.
"Looks like we have to postpone our wedding," the man replied in an annoyed tone.
