Chapter 136: Arielle Feels Sorry For The Boy

When Arielle wanted to go after the child, Ronan immediately stopped her.

"Arielle, you can leave him alone. The boy doesn’t seem to want to be disturbed. We have to get back to the palace before nightfall because it’s getting colder."

"And leave the boy alone, out in the cold?" Arielle shook her head disapprovingly. She let go of Ronan’s hand from her arm and ran after the boy who couldn’t walk fast because his legs hurt.

"Hey, I didn’t want to make you uncomfortable. It’s going to be very cold out here. You want to find a warm place to rest?"

Arielle’s hand was thrown away by the child. Ronan, who saw that, growled unapprovingly. William immediately approached the king and restrained the man from venting his frustration on a small child who did not know better.

Arielle stopped right in front of the boy and held both of his shoulders tightly.

"If you don’t like me, I can leave you alone. But later, after you warm yourself up and get your wounds cleaned up."

"I don’t want to! Listen, I don’t want to!" shouted the child made Arielle surprised.

After screaming his heart out, the child immediately cried loudly, throwing the roll of cloth into a pile of snow. His face was sore and almost numb from sitting under the snow for hours.

Arielle smiled, seeing the boy venting his emotions.

"I want to be alone," he said between sobs.

"Why do you say that? Look, it’s very cold out here. Your family might be worried about you..." Arielle said patiently.

"I don’t need a family! I hate my family!" added the boy, still sobbing.

Arielle again ventured to extend her hand. She stroked the boy’s tousled hair, removing some of the snow that fell there. She bent slightly and smiled when she heard the rumbling sound from the boy’s stomach.

"That’s not my stomach!" he said, still crying.

Arielle chuckled, then nodded. "I know, it was my stomach. Would you like to accompany me to dinner?"

Slowly the child’s cries faded, even though his hiccups were still audible. Arielle took the roll of cloth that the boy had thrown away. She gently grasped one of the child’s hands which felt very cold. She invited the boy to follow her.

The boy was still whimpering a little. Even so, he no longer refused Arielle’s outstretched hand. Ronan took a deep breath as the girl smiled at him. William knew what the man was thinking and he patted the king on the shoulder encouragingly.

"The palace has a lot of empty space, Your Majesty. Don’t worry," William said, getting a sharp glance from the king.

Now Arielle was standing in front of Ronan. The girl encouraged the boy to come with William.

"Arielle," called Ronan tiredly.

"Yes, Ronan?" replied the girl with a very sweet tone and sparkling eyes.

The man closed his eyes. He was trying to be firm at this point, but if she was calling his name so sweetly and being adorable like this, Ronan wasn’t sure he could keep his assertiveness.

"What are you going to do with the kid?"

Arielle glanced at the boy and gave a small smile as the boy looked for her. She waved her hand, asking the boy to come with William. Ronan cleared his throat loudly, indicating that he was still waiting for an explanation from the girl.

"I just wanted to help heal his wound. Didn’t you see his badly injured face?"

"Then we take the child to the hospital and immediately return to the palace."

"The child is also cold!" cried Arielle feeling panicked because that was not her plan. "When I touched his hand, it was so cold it almost froze. I wanted to give him some warm food while I could."

"At the hospital, the nurse will give him warm food and there is always a priest there to help the child to warm up," said Ronan, explaining to Arielle, hoping that the girl did not intend to take the child to the palace.

"But I want to help him. Don’t you find it strange to see a small child sitting alone outside the house? What if he was abandoned?"

Ronan cupped the girl’s face. "Arielle, you can’t help everyone directly. In this kingdom, many facilities have been provided for the people here."

Arielle held the man’s hand gently. "I know, it’s just that he’s the kid who gave me roses at the festival back then. I want to repay his kindness."

The man looked at Arielle closely. He stopped to think for a moment. He knew that Arielle’s sympathy was greater than his. If he continued to refuse, it would only make Arielle sad, wouldn’t it? And Ronan didn’t want that at all. He had promised to give her whatever she wanted.

Ronan took a deep breath.

"Only until the child recovers, and then we will return him to his family," said the man firmly.

Arielle smiled sweetly. The girl nodded enthusiastically. "Thank you for understanding. I will take good care of the child."

Ronan nodded. He turned and ordered William to take the boy to the palace with them. The day had turned into night, and another person had entered the palace grounds with them.

Together with the group that returned the stag to the forest, Arielle marched back to the palace safely with the child she met on the way.

When Ronan helped the girl down from the horse, Tania, who was a little limp due to her old bones, caught up with the princess and draped over a blanket so she wouldn’t catch a cold. Northendell’s nighttime temperatures could sometimes be so cold, it was bone-chilling...

"Thank you, Tania," said Arielle.

The girl drew closer to the boy she had found. William helped the boy down. His body looked very weak and frail, especially with his blue lips trembling with cold. Arielle took the blanket that Tania put on her body, then draped it over the boy’s back gently.

Tania, who saw a small unfamiliar child, let out a long sigh.

’Who else is this?’ asked Tania in her heart.
