Chapter 783: Chapter 781: Let’s Swap Clothes

Shen Cheng, upon hearing the sound, faintly upturned the corners of her lips but didn’t speak.

Ye Jin glanced at her, knowing it was pointless to say more and had no intention of offering further explanation.

"Keke, I’m really sorry for getting your clothes so dirty..."

Ye Jin had intended to help wipe Shi Keke’s clothes, but as soon as she reached out her hand, Shi Keke pulled the tissue away from her and said with a smile, "Auntie, your hands, pampered every day, are meant for admiration, not mundane tasks like this. Don’t trouble yourself, I’ll do it myself."

Every time she sweetly called her "Auntie," it sounded syrupy and endearing, but to Ye Jin, it didn’t taste right. She wasn’t a fool; she clearly perceived the irony in Shi Keke’s words – complimentary on the surface but actually insinuating that Ye Jin was too delicate to handle household chores.

Ye Jin looked at the condition of Shi Keke’s clothes and feigned concern, frowning, "Keke, Grandpa won’t blame you for not wearing a gown to his birthday banquet, but if you go in with your clothes...this dirty, isn’t it going to embarrass him?"

"So let it be embarrassing," Shi Keke said indifferently. "It’s not the first time I’ve been embarrassed."

"How about this, I drive you to buy a new one right now," suggested Ye Jin, glancing at her wristwatch. "The banquet starts in an hour and a half. Round trip, it’ll take, at most, an hour and a half. Being a little late should be fine; Grandpa would understand."

With that, she smiled, "As your aunt, if I dirtied your clothes and did nothing about it, people would gossip, right? Plus, if you really went in like that, I wouldn’t feel right about it either."

Her words sounded beautiful, but both Shi Keke and Shen Cheng clearly understood that by deliberately bringing up the potential tardiness and Grandpa, she was just making it hard for them to comply.

"No need."

In the end, Shi Keke followed her own heart and declined her "kind" offer.

But her refusal was not about pleasing Ye Jin; it was about staying true to her own principles.

She wasn’t so downtrodden as to need charity; a stained piece of clothing was insignificant as long as one was clean in person and pure in heart.

"Then..." Ye Jin wanted to say something more.

"Let’s head inside first, we can chat later," Shi Keke said as she waved her hand and pulled Shen Cheng towards the castle.

Ye Jin stood there, watching their retreating figures until they were far away. She then scoffed coldly, a glint of calculation crossing her eyes, but quickly hiding it away again.

She took out a mirror from her bag to touch up her makeup and tidy up her gown, then sashayed into the castle with swaying hips.

Once inside the castle, Shen Cheng first went to the restroom to take care of her own predicament.

Shi Keke also cleaned her dirty clothes in the lavatory. What she could do was to wipe off the excess dirt from the fabric which, though cleaner after her attempt, left the clothes slightly translucent from being wet.

Shi Keke, inherently a neat-looking woman, didn’t appear slovenly despite her disheveled attire – in fact, the look was uniquely charming. However, the semi-transparent condition of her clothes now was rather suggestive. If she walked out like that, she would surely attract the attention of many men.

After looking at herself in the mirror, Shi Keke didn’t seem to mind.

"Sister-in-law, I’ll be waiting for you outside," she said to Shen Cheng, then opened the door, ready to leave.

"Don’t go out yet," Shen Cheng pulled her back, frowning as she assessed Shi Keke’s attire, "You dare to go out looking so revealing? Let’s switch clothes."
