Love You for the Rest of My Life-Chapter 86: Turnover of One Million
"Damn it!" Gu Qibao clenched her fist, her face turning red. "What nonsense are you talking about? If anyone should kneel, it should be him!"
"Really?" Nangong Ran looked at her with skeptical eyes. "If you don’t make him kneel tonight, Gu Qibao, I’ll lose respect for you."
Gu Qibao was immediately frustrated. Nangong Ran, this terrible friend, clearly knew that she couldn’t get the best of Di Mingjue but still purposely agitated her.
Such a bad friend indeed!
"But seriously though," Nangong Ran continued, "Is it fair to treat Duke that way? It seems like he likes you a lot, so much so that he would spoil you to heaven. It must have felt good for you to splash water on Bo Chengxin."
Gu Qibao was taken aback before she forced a bitter smile, "It was pretty satisfying."
"If you’re satisfied, why are you smiling like this, Gu Qibao? What on earth are you thinking?" Nangong Ran became serious. "Your thing with the Duke is a done deal, right? As long as he likes you, you can’t run away."
Gu Qibao took a deep breath, leaned back in her chair, fell silent for a while, shaking her head, "Don’t ask me, I don’t know. I think I need to adjust my mood and think carefully."
"Pfft." Nangong Ran burst out laughing, "Gu Qibao, you’re being so artistic."
Gu Qibao also smiled, "It’s not about being artistic. Seriously, Ranran, let me tell you, this feeling you wouldn’t understand. It takes time to adjust and buffer. It’s not that easy to start liking someone. Regardless of whether they are good to you or not, even if they are, it doesn’t mean you would reciprocate. Especially when Di Mingjue isn’t exactly good to me."
"That’s you saying he’s not good to you? Then what would be considered treating you well?" Nangong Ran looked surprised.
"I don’t know." Gu Qibao shook her head with a somewhat vacant look.
Nangong Ran didn’t say anything more. Indeed, so much had changed within just half a month. Everyone’s positions had been jumbled and misplaced, and it did take some time to adjust.
Especially with her feelings for Bo Chengyan.
Nangong Ran sympathized, so she suggested, "Why don’t we hang out once Xuanxuan arrives?"
"The bar?" Gu Qibao asked.
"Yes." Nangong Ran nodded.
"Alright." Gu Qibao agreed without hesitation. She truly needed to let loose and blow off some steam - consider it as a momentary relaxation.
"But, Di Mingjue can’t know about this." Gu Qibao hastily added, realizing if Di Mingjue found out that she had fun instead of having dinner with him, she definitely won’t get off easy.
"Look at you, such a scaredy-cat." Nangong Ran laughed at her.
Gu Qibao didn’t care, "So what if I’m a scaredy-cat, it’s a wonder if one isn’t scared in front of Di Mingjue."
...
Di Mingjue went off to Di Mingzhe’s banquet, thinking it was a grand affair given the presence of the ambassador from C Country. Turns out it was just a small private gathering.
What made him more exasperated was that they made him play Mahjong, under the pretence of lacking one player.
Di Mingjue was instantly irritated; his mood turned even worse and unpleasant.
Mahjong was just a game to him, just like playing with toys. With his business-minded brain, it would be unusual if he didn’t win nine out of ten games.
Since there are people willing to donate money, he certainly wouldn’t refuse. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
Shortly after dinner, the group started their game.
The C Country ambassador was a man in his forties, who according to Di Mingzhe, loves Mahjong tremendously.
Ever since he came to the Empire and learned to play Mahjong, he was addicted to it.
Di Mingjue thought irritably, let him lose all the money he could this time and see if he’s still addicted to Mahjong.
As soon as the Duke sat down, he casually suggested, "How about we raise the stakes to a million?"
