Chapter 25: Revelations II

Yvette sat in the cab with a heavy limbs and blank mind. The world outside the car seems so unreal and distant as if she was floating in a nightmare. One she badly wanted to escape from.

When she finally arrived home, she walked towards the estate door with slow, heavy steps. Even the few minutes walk that wasn’t supposed to take much time took her almost half an hour.

She opened the door to the house, her body moving on autopilot, numb from the pain. But as soon as she stepped inside, she could feel something was off.

The lights were on though she could distinctly remember turning them off before she left, without thinking much about it she stepped in but stopped in her tracks as she heard a distinct voice which made her heart skip a beat.

Her eyes scanned the living room and then she heared it again. Footsteps. Pacing back and forth. Upstairs.

Yvette froze and stopped. There was no way anyone could break in with the tight security . And besides she was the only one at home as Mrs Lawrence had left earlier few days ago to tend to her sick grandchild.

Slowly, she walked up the stairs each steps heavy with dread and confusion as her heart thumped erratically.

When she reached the door, she opened it gently and a gasp escaped her lips involuntarily. She stood frozen in place as she stared at the figure few feets away from her.

Yvette blinked , her mind reeling. "Am I imagining this, or is it the grief playing cruel tricks on me ".

Before her was Zeke donning and casual Tee paired with a blue jeans, he stood there with his back turned to her’s, standing in the middle of the room just by the window, pacing worriedly as he angrily threw his phone on the bed, cursing as he ran his hands through his sandy blonde hair which sparkled angelically in the moonlight that sipped in from the window.

He complained about something but she couldn’t make out the words.

Yvette stood still in the doorway, her mouth dry and heart racing. She opened her mouth but the words failed her , her mouth opening and closing like a fish. "How? . ."

Zeke upon hearing her voice turned towards her, his eyes wide with relief. "Yvette, I’ve been waiting for you. I even phoned you but you left your cellphone at home". He said as he approached her, pulling her into his embrace.

Yvette couldn’t speak, her mind struggling to make sense of what was happening. He had been on that plane, that she was sure of. And she had seen the unmistakable news so how could he still be standing here, alive in front of her.

Tears crested in her eyelids, pouring down in heavy torrents as she snaked her hands around him.

"I can touch you. You’re indeed real. It’s really you."

Zeke , sensing she was not in the right state of mind pulled away from the embrace then noticed her wan expression and tears stricken face.

"What happened?" . He asked worriedly, wiping her tears. "Are you okay?".

"There was a plane crash, I. . . I thought you were on . . . On that plane". Yvette whispered, her voice broken with sobs and disbelief as she explained.

Zeke wrapped his arms around her tightly. "I changed my mind at the last minute and took the private jet so I could arrive much earlier, ahead of time". He explained softly, stroking her head. "I tried calling to inform you but I couldn’t get to you then I realized you weren’t at home and without your phone when I arrived at home".

Upon hearing his words, she broke down again, sobbing into his chest her fingers clutching at him tightly as she sobbed afraid to let him go.

Terrified he would disappear again if she did. Zeke shushed her gently, his hands moving in slow , soothing strokes along her back as he comforted her.

"I’m here, it’s okay. I’m here.. .". He muttered over and over comfortingly, his voice the anchor she so desperately needed at the moment.

The weight of the day’s event crashed on her and the floodgates opened again as she wept uncontrollably, her whole body shaking with the fear and anguish she had carried all day and then with the relief.

Zeke stroked her hair, holding her close, whispering words of comfort but the tears didn’t stop.

"Don’t cry, I’m here. Okay?". He whispered in a croaked voice. It broke his heart to see her in such a shriveled state and her tears was her soft spot, he couldn’t beat to see her cry.

After a while of comforting her , he was finally able to calm her down and carried her to the bathroom and into the tub , filling the tub with just the right temperature of water to ease her muscles.

Zeke waited outside the door in case she needed his help which didn’t seem likely. But several minutes passed and she still wasn’t out, he pressed his ears to the door and could hear the sound of water running.

Afraid she had dozed off while still in the bathtub, he rushed inside only to be held captive by Yvette who was already clad in a clean white fluffy towel, her wet blonde hair clinging to her face seductively, her eyes now clear from the earlier mists of tears.

She pressed him against the wall in a kabedon posture, the steams in the bathroom rising.

"What happened?". Zeke regained his bearings and asked, surprised at the sudden change in her attitude.

"Do you have anything you’re supposed to say to me ?". She didn’t reply his questions but instead replied him with another question, staring right in his onyx coloured eyes.

"Anything I’m supposed to say to you?". He mumbled in confusion. "Nothing, absolutely nothing".

"Think before you talk". Yvette shushed him, gently placing her slender pale fingers on his lips.

Zeke couldn’t help but be enthralled by her at the moment, he could barely take his eyes off her and the posture, her domineering stance and behavior only did nothing but made it worse. He could clearly feel a tent rising in his jeans.

"There’s indeed nothing". He replied, hoping to get done with it quickly before he loose control of himself though he was still amused at what might have caused the sudden change in her.

"Think again, is there anything you’re supposed to say to me, anything you’re hiding from me ?". Yvette asked again with a glare as his gaze flitted everywhere but on her.

"I’m not hiding anything from you". He answered, in this world she was the most closet person to him and before her he’s nothing but a transparent paper .

"Yvie". Yvette muttered and Zeke froze in place upon hearing her words finally understanding what she had been pushing at and he scratched his head lost for words on how to explain.

At the end , he could only say the word "Yvie". That was the nickname he usually addressed her as in his letters. He could remember she complained about the nickname for a while before she accepted it.

"You . . You fool". Yvette let go of him, wiping the tears threatening to fall down. "I’ve never seen anyone more foolish than you are".

"I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hide it from you. It was just that , at that moment that was the only way I could still be in touch with you and reach out to you". Zeke explained, mistaking her trembling figure and tired but energetic expression for anger.

"At that time, I tried to kill and get rid of my feeling for you but I just couldn’t stop. Like a moth to a flame. So I decided to be your penpal that way I can still be with you even though I can never have you . .".

"Yvie, don’t cry. I really didn’t mean to hide it from you, I was just afraid, afraid you’ll reject me . Don’t be angry". He mumbled as he wiped her tears.

"I’m not angry. I’m just . . I’m just ..."

Zeke embraced her tightly, mumbling in her hair. "How’d you find out?". He asked curiously.

She pulled away from his embrace as she answered. "You didn’t do a great job hiding with wooden box".

"Oh". Zeke sighed. "I didn’t expect you’ll be able to find that . . ."

Yvette didn’t bother hearing the rest of his words, it didn’t matter any longer, she didn’t care . All that mattered was that he was alive, standing before her hale and hearty.

She stood on her tippy toes, snaking her arms around his neck as she passionately took his lips in her’s.

Zeke was momentarily stunned for a moment before he wrapped his one of his arms around her waist, the other at the back of her head, passionately responding and deepening the kiss.

Unlike her light caress, his touch immediately opened up her mouth for the onslaught of his affection.
